This mode is a hybrid of using the players standalone but with a computer with rekordbox as a library source. 3. Or you can HID mode with a variety of different officially supported DJ software. When you connect 2 CDJs to the laptop to use it with Serato, will the audio be send directly from the CDJ to the mixer? Meaning the mixer will just be working standalone?
No, in Serato it won’t. The audio will come from the computer channels of the mixer. In fact, you have to have a Serato compatible mixer, in order to use the CDJs. The CDJs will behave as a controller for Serato while audio is routed through the mixer. On other DJ software, you have the option for audio output either from the mixer or the CDJs.
You have to download it to use it. To use Serato with the CDJ-3000, you’ll have to use it with a Serato supported mixer like the DJM-900NXS2 or the DJM-S11. A full list of Serato compatible mixers is on their website.
Hello Gregory. We share and understand your frustration as there are many simultaneous issues that are contributing to global stock shortages of our products. I have a Serato licence from my XDJ RX3...can I still use Serato on CDJ 2000 or 3000 by connecting my Mac even though the Mac isn't connected to my XDJ RX3?
The XDJ-RX3 is a plug and play device for Serato. The license is essentially the unit itself. The CDJ-2000 (all variants) and the CDJ-3000 are Serato accessories and must be paired with a Serato capable mixer, interface, or DJ controller. Some mixers are plug and play with Serato and do not require an activation license. If this is the case, you can use the CDJ in HID mode without any additional activations. Other devices require a Serato DJ license to activate. To see the full list of plug and play and upgrade required hardware, here is the link to Serato’s hardware support page: serato.com/dj/hardware Not the 3 types of hardware. 1. I basically want a way of using Serato with CDJ's as that's what I'm used to preparing all my tracks with....I don't want to use Rekordbox....thanks
It depends on the mixer you are using. Some mixers will unlock Serato automatically. The CDJ is a "Serato accessory device" and will work in HID mode if you are using it with a mixer (or controller) that activates Serato. Think of it as the mixer having the Serato license inside it. While other mixers require a paid upgrade. Check out Serato's "hardware" page. If the mixer is labeled as using "Serato DJ Pro" and does not indicate "paid upgrade", then you do not need a license. A DJM-S11 is an example of a mixer that does not need an additional license. A DJM-A9 is labelled as "paid upgrade", therefore you will need a license. Please note, the license itself is not relevant to the CDJ since it is an accessory device. It pertains to the mixer (or controller) you are using. The only time a CDJ may require an additional license is if you are using DVS, but for HID mode, it is not necessary so long as you have a mixer or mixer + license that activates Serato.
Currently, no DJ software that supports the CDJ-3000 in HID mode can display the master deck’s waveform for parallel view. This is a feature that can only be used when using Pro DJ Link in standalone or Link Export.

The way it works is, each USB port in the hub will independently switch when you switch the input selector to the other computer. And it will only affect the CDJ on that channel. Say you have a pair of CDJs HID linked to computer A, and you switch the channel 2 input selector to computer B; only the CDJ on channel 2 will switch to B. Essentially, this allows you relink each CDJ to the next computer one at a time. It is something you cannot do with an external USB hub. Unless you unplug one CDJ USB connection at a time.
Hello friends, I have this pair of CDJ3000 and a DJM S9 mixer but I want to work with Recordbox in performance mode with USB cables but it doesn't detect the CDJ3000. Does anyone know why this happens, thanks!
Here’s an older video teaching how to do it with legacy CDJs. The process isn’t much different on a CDJ-900NXS. ua-cam.com/video/1SO3uvj6cEI/v-deo.html
Depending on the mixer you have, there are two ways to do this. Most DJ mixers do not have a built-in USB hub with computer switching. However, two of our mixers do. The following are the steps to do it. On most mixers: 1. Connect the mixer or interface directly to the computer on it’s own port. 2. Connect the CDJs’ USB connection to a USB-hub. The hub does not have to be power, and can simply be USB 2.0. Connect the hub to a computer. 3. With the software open, link the CDJs to the software with the decks properly allocated. 4. Have second laptop connected directly to the mixer on it’s own USB port and have the DJ software open. 5. When you are ready to switch, you simply unplug the USB hub from one computer, and connect it to the next. This will not stop playback. This will simply sever control from the CDJs. 6. Once the hub is connected to the new computer, simply link the players and allocate the correct decks. Make sure you DO NOT connect the mixer to the USB hub because by doing so, disconnecting the hub will disconnect your audio connection to your DJ software. If you have a DJM-S11 or DJM-S7: 1. Connect the CDJs’ USB connection to the ports labeled “CDJ/controller” on the back of the mixer. This is the built-in USB hub. Make sure each CDJ is connected to the port closest to it. 2. Connect the mixer’s USB A and B to each of the two laptops. 3. Set the input selectors to computer A and with the DJ software open, link the CDJs. 4. When you are ready to switch computers, switch the input selector to B. The CDJ on that channel will sever it’s link to computer A. 5. Link the CDJ of that channel to the new computer. 6. Once you have mixed a song over using computer B, repeat steps 4 and 5 for the other channel.

Make sure you DO NOT connect the mixer to the USB hub because by doing so, disconnecting the hub will disconnect your audio connection to your DJ software.
If you have a DJM-S11 or DJM-S7:
1. Connect the CDJs’ USB connection to the ports labeled “CDJ/controller” on the back of the mixer. This is the built-in USB hub. Make sure each CDJ is connected to the port closest to it.
2. Connect the mixer’s USB A and B to each of the two laptops.

4. When you are ready to switch computers, switch the input selector to B. The CDJ on that channel will sever it’s link to computer A.
5. Link the CDJ of that channel to the new computer.
6. Once you have mixed a song over using computer B, repeat steps 4 and 5 for the other channel.
