I think the underappreciated play here was actually the transports. Your forward base and towers in the north was what permitted so much wood theft and prevented him from effectively massing to push.
53:55 The Holy Treb! 'Offensive wood chopping' is the best/funniest strat I've seen in a while, and we're super proud of T90 for the box formation. GG!
So this is basically the real history of how Britain lost almost all their forests due to massive longbow and ship production and later industrial revolution.
The trees disappeared, eh? Must be the work of a lumberjack then... My dad is a real Canadian lumberjack. He always said: "Chop your own wood and it will warm you twice!" Did he really say that though? Maybe I just read it somewhere, I don't know...
Sometimes when a content creator has been playing a game as their job for a while, you can tell they have fallen out of love with the game and just see it as a job. I love that T90 is still so passionate about AOE that when he gets a night to himself he spends it grinding ranked 😂 ❤
I love watching you play and cast yourself. Many people seriously enjoy watching you talk about your own games. If you’re worried about people not enjoying it I hope you understand for a lot of us we always see you cast others and talk about the game so it’s very engaging to finally see how you play and think, there’s a lot of value in it you should do more.
Britons' castle age tech gives +1 range to archers and +2 tower attack (on top of arrowslits), It is often overlooked but Britons have amongst the best towers in the game. This is why his keeps were so efficient.
Honestly those cannon galeons were the real MVPs of this game. They were what actually enabled you to pressure him so much by destroying his castles close to the water and opening a huge gap in his defences, since he had to watch out for the whole line instead of focusing on the land passage. If it wasn't for that you wouldn't have been able to raid him that much and the game could have gone his way!
I hate when people act like you need to surrender because the odds are in their favor. Unless it’s guaranteed I’m going to lose I’m going to try to win until I can’t anymore.
It was obvious for the last 30 minutes of the game, T90 was going to win. No unit queue with only have 20 army while T90 had 100+ army still... they should have just called it.
@@aralornwolf3140the dude invested heavily into defense, had a relic, and had a treb. It was a war of attrition that he was likely hoping to outlast T90 on, and then push with the treb when nothing was left. So no, it was not obvious red was going to 100% lose. It was just likely. And we would never get cool comebacks if people just quit every time it was likely they would die.
at the point where you were banking 4k wood and he had nothing wouldn't it be a good idea to pull out some halbs to protect the trebs more efficiently to make the final push?
T90, you deserved the stubborness of the opponent. Telling the other to quit even if politely and indirectly is BAD. Also clearly the guy was having fun. Edit: To add, when I say bad, I dont mean really bad bad, it's just... in game you usually don't have really idea of what the other has most of the time, if someone tries too early to get you to leave...now it's on. Also regarding having to go...nothing but yourself is keeping you sitting in the chair playing. When you do that when a game is getting looong, you do knowing the full extent of the consequences for yourself...the other guy might only be having fun.
I am all for not resigning early, but there is a point where the outcome is very clear. I think it’s impolite to waste the other player’s time after winning becomes impossible. I’ve definitely hit people with the 105 before.
@@spacialcircumstancesT90 is always able to leave the game if he thinks it's a waste of time. Resigning is a courtesy or for when you feel like you'd rather go do something else. If you get the sense the other player is antsy or under a time pressure that you aren't, then why shouldn't you keep fighting for those rating points, especially if you're still having fun? I'd say every time he gently suggested that the other player resigns he probably breathed new life into the other player's resolve.
I mean, yeah, it depends (lol). If I was red I sure wouldn’t have resigned at 31 min. which was the first time T90 subtly suggested it, although I probably wouldn’t have delayed it as long either. The point is definitely when it seems *impossible* to win, and not earlier. I’d definitely stay in the game too if someone suggested I resign before that, although not as long as red did.
Call me an Age of Empires absolutist, but I don't consider this griefing T90. In my opinion, you're quick to call some gameplay griefing. I think it was a pretty fair and balanced game to be honest! This is the Age of empires gameplay I live for. Games like these are the most legendary in my opinion. It's not about winning it's about hvaing fun and seeing an epic glorious war. :D
I wonder if it would have been better to make mangonels later in the game rather than trebs for better mobility and chip damage on his units and structures.
As a non aoe-player that enjoys T90 videos, this is my view on why he did not gg earlier. With fog of war, how does he know he will loose? You as a caster knows it, you as an opponent may know it. But he doesn't? He is well defended, and believes (trolling or not) you are running out of wood. He believes if he can hold on for 20 more minutes, he will win. Yes, I believe he might have stayed 15 min to long. The gate to protect his treb was a douche move. But before that.. I don't think so. It was more of not knowing the whole situation.
T90 talks about how he's effectively won the game and has killed over 200 villagers. *checks timestamp* not even halfway through. What kind of ride am I in for?
You know I’ve heard you talk about resigning too early, and then also resigning too late. When me and my brother play 2v2s on Xbox (I play solo with mnk and when I play with him we use controllers) almost every time without fail the enemy will NOT resign until we have killed every last vil and army lol. I HATE it.
I'm not gonna lie.... I'm the type to stretch out a game, but if i see that there's no way for me to win or grind down my opponent, I'll call the GG.... but that means I would be out of my rss.... I won a few Warcraft 3 games this way by building up a neigh-on impenetrable defense in an area where I had 3 gold mines. My opponent could've won had he split his forces, but he kept attacking down one side, which was silly to me.
Hey T90, havent watched the video yet, but i had an idea. Would it be possible to disable hotkeys for a game, to make it a mouse only game? Thought it would be a dumb, but possibly entertaining game to watch. Anyways, thanks for the entertainment.
Question, should you have gone for the houses towards the end? my thinking is yes the towers are killing ya but if you went south and just chipped away his southern area he would have lost a bunch of houses, granted you didn't know his resources but I would think that would be better than going for the church. Because even if the church gets him gold for soldiers he wouldn't have the space
It seems he was trying to be playful. I guess it ended up coming out as bitterness instead. Thank you for sharing such a game!! And such a story, too!! Wow!
You gotta realize though that it's not the other players fault that you're stubbornly continuing to play a game when you have an appointment to keep early the next morning just because you don't want to lose a few points in ELO. If anyone should be resigning here, regardless of the "inevitable outcome", it's you. If the other guy has no real life obligations keeping him from playing for as long as this game took, well he also has no obligation to you either and I'm sure he realizes that the phrase "a war of attrition" exists for a reason. Entertaining game, but in the future when you have a real life appointment to keep you should probably just take the L.
wow.... holy crap what a fight. i mean from our perspective obviously you had him for more than 2 thirds of the game, sure you could have lost, but by 1 hour in, you were going to win so long as you didnt make a really dumb mistake lol and i wouldnt bank on a pro 2200 elo player making a really dumb mistake, as much as you might hope for it
