I remember growing up my sister had the album of Wattstax man we listened to it over and over. This was a time when Black people really held themselves to a higher accord. I miss those times. Mr. Isac Hayes the consummate musician he was a genius RIP Mr. Isac Hayes.
I was just a kid when this version came out... (I had only heard Michael Jackson and Bill Withers recordings), however even though I was a child and knew nothing of the kind of pain/blues Isaac laid down I was moved.... I thought love was only happiness and light until I "felt" the darkness of this track - a most powerful performance indeed!
My favorite record and song but that old that it is completely inaudible thanks very much for putting it on UA-cam. "No one can honestly say their life is complete without having listened to this!" Agree.
i had never heard this live version before and wow.... this just blew me away!!! no one can honestly say their life is complete without having listened to this!
an ex convict friend of mine introduced me to this wonderful record of Isaac heyes..................great music lived back in then olden days indeed, i love the part were he says give me the grooves on the Piano Sydney
Powerful. Found this version several years ago. Listen to this for the first time, and you cannot imagine why it took you so long to find it. Blows you away!
I think I've listened to this more than any other track, live or otherwise, ever. I know every note of it. If there are better live performances out there, I've never heard them. Still floors me every time.
I remember when my father took 2 the movie 2 see show, man I miss Issac Hays, family and friends please when you find the time out of your busy schedule listen to this it will but you in a different frame of mind ... RIP Mr Issac Hays
FANTASTIC VERSION BY THE GREAT ISAAC HAYES.I WAS IN A BAND CALLED SQUEEZE IN THE EARLY 70S AND WE DID THIS SONG EVANGELIST ROGER MANSOUR FORMER DRUMMER LESLIE WEST MISSIONARY TO HAITI
Bill Withers' "Ain't No Sunshine" is 1 of those classics, like Hoagy Carmichael's "Stardust," Beatles' "Yesterday," Dylan's "Knockin' on Heaven's Door," Leonard Cohen's "Hallelujah," that it seems every musician's just gotta cover it. (Maybe it's some rite of passage / hazing; can't be in the union w/o it?) & there r some phenomenal renditions out there. Sting. Lenny Kravitz. A young Michael Jackson (!). Joe Cocker. Isaac Hanson (no joke). But this 1's a world apart. Thanks so much 4 posting it.
I immediately thought of this when I heard the sad news that Bill Withers had died. It really is a masterpiece of interpretation. The accapella segment at 12.07 is immense
I actually attended this 3 day wonderful event and had the time of my life. I had to get a babysitter for my 3 month old son who is now 462yrs old. Good days good memories.
That's heavy. I. Sure. Wish I had. A. Brother bro. To. Blow. Like. That. Before. I. Leave. This vworld. That's. Far. Out of town music. At the. Finest. Share. The. JOY laughter.
OBRIGADA ISAAC HAYES, OBRIGADA!!!.
No doubt about it, best EVAH!! No disrespect to MJ, Sting, Hanson (yes, really -- a very good one, too), Bill Withers (he did write it!), or any of the other great artists who've covered this over the years -- but this one's the gold standard, the ultimate. Total travesty that it wasn't here at YT for so long. Can't thank u enough for rectifying that, sushi!
When a man comes to the realization that he isn"t really all that, no matter how tight you think your "mack game" is, and your whip appeal-you know what I mean is diminishing compared to what it used to be, that special lady who you dogged, played on and with has moved on-reality hits you. Reflect my brothers and you sisters, of all the women and men you've been with, did you really LOVE them or just LUST them. Real genuine, authentic love , that transparent, enduring, overcoming love comes once
O "Ike" can sure break a song down to the bone. When the tanksgiving turkey is finish we use the leftover bones to make soup &gravy out of it. No wonder they call him CHEF! He sung the stew out of this song.
PACE THE FLOOR, GET A CHAIR AND LOOK OUT FROM THE BEHIND THE CURTAINS, PRAY, AND SOME MORE STUFF!!! HE'S WITH THAT DERN SIDNEY KIRK IN SOME HOLE IN THE WALL PLAYING THAT JUKE JOINT MUSIC. R I P .
Sorry, rayjr62. Freddie King's version is not much beyond Bill's. Nice axe work but singing has little depth. And I saw Freddie live in '71 (not this song however). Hayes Live at Sahara Tahoe is the best ever. You feel pain in Hayes sound even more in full Ike's rap and Ain't No Sunshine on the Live at Sahara Tahoe.
I remember growing up my sister had the album of Wattstax man we listened to it over and over. This was a time when Black people really held themselves to a higher accord. I miss those times. Mr. Isac Hayes the consummate musician he was a genius RIP Mr. Isac Hayes.
When jazz meets funk, you get Mr. Hayes every time. RIP

As a young man I appreciated this type of music and at 60 years old I'm still love the sound and it sounds even better now

Powerful. Found this version several years ago. Listen to this for the first time, and you cannot imagine why it took you so long to find it. Blows you away!

absolutely. Sad thing is, that you wont be allowed to go to this concert, if you aint afroamerican. Sad, but it got much worse after 2000.
As a saxophone player...YES!
14:39 strikes a nerve every time I hear this joint. just fabulous!!
I'm an Issac Hayes fan, but with this one, I had one thought on my mind 'when is it going to end?'
