How to Connect a USB Microphone to an iPad/iPhone
Вставка
- Опубліковано 12 тра 2020
- USB microphones are a straightforward way to record your vocals, guitars or whatever into your iOS device and GarageBand.
Unless you’re using one of the newer iPad Pro models, you’ll be connecting your USB microphone of choice to your iDevice via it’s lightning port.
Therein lies the problem - Most popular USB microphones output to a USB A port.
That’s where Apple’s Lightning to USB 3 Camera Adapter comes in.

Great video, today was my first intent to record my voice on iPad.
Thank you Patrick
i appreciate how you left in the first attempt with the USB plug, you could have made it see like you were a god among men, but nay
Nice, simple introduction with clear guidance here. Thanks for making it look easy!
Thanks for watching! 👍
This was a great tut. Very on time. Is it possible to connect two usb mics to an ipad and have them run at the same time? While using garage band?
Very helpful vid. Thank you
Very good guide!
This was really helpful, thank you!
Thanks for watching! 👍
This is really helpful. Thanks!
Great video thank you!
this was very helpful when i first got my mic, but now all of a sudden my ipad doesn’t recognize my mic when i plug it in??
I have a question,if you are playing games were you have a mic,how do you use the usb mic instead of the headsets mic and still listen to audio?great vid though keep it up 👍👍
What other things other than garage band will it work on because I’m looking to became a gamer
Thanks. Very helpful!
Thanks for watching! 👍
Thanks my guy!
Thanks ! Can you record videos with this system ?
Great help as always. Thx!
Thanks for watching man!
Can I still use my wireless headphones to listen to the track as I record vocal takes?
Thank you so much! When the mic and the adapter connected to iPhone using Garage Band, it sounds fine. But when using the iPad, the mic makes a loud hissing noise (like someone pedaling a bike). Any thought?
Love that accent, makes me smile a bit.
Love this comment, made me smile a bit.
How would I connect this mic to a iPad 10th gen? Buy the official camera adaptor for that too? Thanks
Can I film myself using this process? Even if it means using a different camera app, I have an application that requires live video recording.
Is the iPad 8th gen type C? I read it is for the charging but I'm new to apple, can I simply use the charging port on it that's type C for a USB mic for this particular iPad model? It has the 3.5 mm headphone jack. Great video. I have android and use a otg cable type C to connect my yeti to my galaxy tablet and use audio evolution which is incredible. But I want to try garage band really bad so I figured I would ask you, someone with experience 👍
Great as always!
Cheers man, I appreciate it 👍
Hello and thanks for the video. I do have one question. When you use a nicer USB mic 🎙 and plug it in directly to an IPhone or iPad, does the integrity of the USB’s audio sound like it would on a PC or Mac? Thanks 🙏
The video was great but I spent most of the time eyeing off your OD-1 Overdrive.
I am trying to use a Proar condenser to my iPad Pro. I can’t get it to work. It shuts off the out put sound and I dont see an option to select a mic. I need it for interviews and zoom
I have a question... Will this setup work on ios along with a separate DAC at the same time when both are connected to an ipad via a powered USB hub since I may need a good clean signal to my hard to drive headphones in case the yeti's headphone output isn't beefy enough or when I need to connect to a studio monitor.
i saw you mentioning the camera adapter when using the G-Track, whats that?
Good video
Can we use Insignia microphones work on the adapter and the iPad?
And garage band?
I love this channel
Does this work with recording video just onto the phone? Without Garageband?
Lets say i have an iPhone 6s, and i have a blue yeti, can i use my blue yeti without the self monitoring headphone jack that is on the yeti and just hear only the beat playing in GarageBand and then replay the whole thing back. Is that possible? Because it’s possible on my Mac, its where it says; Input:blue yeti, Output:built in audio
Thank you, this is a very helpful guide. But when I connected my Zoom H2 microphone, I still got the "this accessory requires too much power" error - even though I did connect it to power using the lightning port on the adapter. I know the Zoom is an older mic, but I think it's pretty good and was hoping I could use it. Any thoughts?
I should have mentioned that it's an iPad 6, all updates installed.
Try connecting the power cable to a laptop usb port instead of the mains adaptor. I use this method to connect my Focusrite mixer to my ipad. Some devices require more power than a mains adaptor can provide, but the laptop or desktop usb ports provide more current.
Aye dood why didn’t you link any of the accessories shown in the desp?
When ever i record on my ipad the audio of my vocals sound very low how can i put the volume up on my vocals
Great video, What about the newer iPad Pro. With usb C. What connector is viable
Any usbC to USC adapter or connector will work. It doesn’t need to be the Apple branded one.
So if I put the mic can I stoll use my headphones to hear it while I record
I have a Samson Q9U microphone that I have used previously with my iphone 13 (approx 2 months ago) and it recorded the external mic with the camera app with no issues. For some reason it now, no longer works in the camera app or voice recorder.
It does work with one app 100% of the time, Recorder Plus (voice recording app), but not Apple native apps.... I am connected via an OTG to lightning adapter and powered USB hub. Apple have been completely useless and have said it is my mic, despite it working perfectly with Zoom, Loom and FCPX for 4 - 5 hours every day!
I have about 21 hours of footage that has used the iPhone mic and it sounds terrible!
Any ideas why this is the case and more importantly, how to fix it?
What gen and year iPad are you
Using in this video?
Oh wow. Ok yea - this is exactly the info I was looking for BUT... coolest accent ever!!!! Are you available for voice overs?
Is it possible to connect two USB mics?
your voice awaken my inner Odin
ARISE KING OF ASGARD AND DECIMATE THE MORTAL WORLD WITH THOSE FUNKY BEATS!!!!
I splurged and bought the expensive USB 3 Camera Adapter from Apple ($26). My iPhone 7 Plus STILL does not recognize a Yeti Nano (powered by an USB hub). I have a new direct-to-lightning condenser microphone on order, but I don't have much hope. (The last one I tried also failed.)
How about using this adapter to hook up a snowball to do a FACEBOOK Live church service - to pick up voices/music. Thoughts?
Is it possible to record videos with the USB microphone?
Thank you so much man I will be forever grateful to you 💕💕

Could you use AirPods as headphones
Does a hdmi to 3.5mm adaptor work ?
how do you connect headphones?
Hi when i am looking in apple store its giving me lightening and USB 3 as an option in the description is this the same adpter you are showing? I can not see any link in your description for me to check it looks the same has photo icon on it but im unclear if "A" and "3" are the same thing. I do not want to waste 45€ thanks for any help
Yes, that’s the one.
It may have sounded like a plug for Apple, but no, really- use Apple lightning connectors. Other kit fails too regularly to be economic-trust me.
Yep, I’ve been burned in the past by dodgy third party cables and accessories.
Hi does this mic need an external power source at all? If used with an iPad Pro?
No, not at all.
Has anyone had an issue with buzzing/humming? I’m using my mic through my iPhone and I cannot figures out!
I'm considering the Rode NT USB mini to connect into an iPad, but I am confused about the necessity for the expensive Camera Kit. I already have a straight USB-A to lightening cable for one iPad, and a USB-A to USB-C for my other iPad.... that's how these plug in to my iMac already. So, why the Camera kit? it seems only to be doing exactly the same - that is, converting from one connection type to another.
I just bought Rode NT USB mini. Tried connecting it to my iPad using a USB Type-C to lightning cable. It doesn't power up the mic at all
This was helpful but when I connected my headphones with the ipad, GarageBand started picking my vocals through my headphones mic and not the condenser microphone. How I select the usb microphone in the app? Please help!
I need answer for this too!
2:22 Why would you do that to me?
If I use this apple adapter how can I connect multiple microphones? I can't find an adapter that has atleast 2 USB ports, a charging port, and headphone jack. Apple doesn't have this option what can I use?
You can only record through one USB device at a time. If you want to multitrack record with multiple microphones you’ll need to attache an audio interface.
Can you use a USB Microphone like this in the Voice Memo App? Or does it have to be in GarageBand?
Yes you can
wait! what do you mean by "mains"? i didnt see what the other end of the lighting cable plugged into im still lost waaaah waaaahhhh
Into a power brick (the one that came with your iPad/iPhone) that’s plugged into a wall socket.
@@TheGaragebandGuide THANKS!!!!
HELP PLEASE! Almost every time [more than 9 out of 10] I connect my Tonor 777 USB mic to an iPad [I've tried two iPads] using a genuine Apple adapter, the iPad shows the popup about new device connected, but then switches off and has to be rebooted. When I do that, it simply cuts out again. Anything I can do?
Sounds strange - what model of iPad is it?
@@TheGaragebandGuide it’s an iPad 7th generation running 16.5.1 and GarageBand 2.3.14
could i use a usb mic connected to my iphone and record myself and the mic's audio on my regular camera? i really wanted to get a snowball ice mic but i'm not sure if i can use it AND record myself on my regular camera, pls help!
Same question I have
@@ModestCasanovaa i've asked like 5 other people and no one has answered 😭
Just try and see if it works
Basically looking for a microphone with a headphone Jack or a similar setup that’s not going to cost me more than my phone costs .
How do I connect it globally for videos, etc… 🤦♂️
So audio jack mic doesn’t work
The camera didn't move and I didn't understand you. You plugged an iphone charging cable into the adapter and the other end where?...
Into the charging brick, which then goes into the wall socket.
Record me a little intro for a track lol
🎙 Auto-tune forever. 🙏
🤫😂
Join us next week to learn how to put furry boots on your blue yeti.
Could you do this with a fifine k690 mic👿
I’m wondering the same thing, my current adapter isn’t working and I’m looking for another
@@Fi6ment get the one from apple
@@KC_Live00s if it works then yea definitely, I’m just scared I’m gonna spend money just to receive another “this accessory isn’t supported by this iPad” notification
@@Fi6ment i bought it for my iphone and it works
Nvm I just found out as soon as I ask that🤣
will this Apple’s Lightning to USB 3 Camera Adapter power up the microphone?
Yes 👍
TheGarageBandGuide forgot to mention that my mic is the editors key sl600 condenser mic
Never heard of it I’m afraid. If it isn’t class compliant, you’ll need to connect a power cable to the camera adapter.
Thanks for the tip! Check out my new beat in garageband if you want to and let me know what you think! 🙏🏼
Will do, thanks for watching!
Well I watched this video a month ago and I decided to order this for my iPhone only to receive it just now and realize- you CANNOT plug headphones into it. Not a dongle; not Apple’s stock headphones. If you want to use this with any iPhone made in the past 5 years I guess you’re just SOL.
One way to work around this problem, if you are using a usb microphone like in the video, make sure the microphone itself has a headphone plug in (most do). Not 100% sure it will work, but buying one tomorrow to use with mac/ipad/iphone. The micro is a Hyper X Quadcast S with in built headphone standard jack receiver. I is compatible with these devices and ps4. Hope this helps.
Doesn’t work for me.
Can you be more specific?
Will this work on a iphone6s?
Absolutely
TheGarageBandGuide okay
TheGarageBandGuide I wished you would’ve told me sooner because I was gonna get the blue snowball mic but I didn’t know it could power up the snowball
What did you get instead?
TheGarageBandGuide I got the tonor q9 for now but if I don’t like it I can return quick and get the snowball instead I could’ve saved so much money I already have the pop filter and arm stand already
Came for the information...stayed for the autotune.
This don’t work no more. Apples update is is ridiculous.
What do you mean it doesn’t work anymore?
I used to hook up that exact way with the camera adapter but ever since apples most recent update it says accessory is not supported by this device
3/4” head phone jack - really ? ?
Lucky that iPads like the 8th generation still has the headphone jack. I still use Bluetooth headphones tho :/
This is really helpful. Thanks!
Glad you found it useful! Thanks for watching! 👍
