📚 Do you have a book club? Yes! You can join it here for free: fable.co/club/...
📝 Have you written a book? My life goal is to be a published author and make a living from writing and I am using this year to gain experience, build up a portfolio and work on a book with my agent. I have just finished the final draft of that book, as you can see in this video. I did self-publish a book about bullying when I was seventeen which is available on Amazon (amzn.to/3mdJKLm), but I'm slightly embarrassed by it now!
🎃 Do you have merch? I don't have merch in the traditional sense (I can't imagine selling something with my face or name on haha!), but I do have a stationery company where I sell planners for students. Hello, please learn about Islam and read the Holy Quran. Thank you
What's the name of the hotel? Did it have carpet? Did you leave with bedbugs?
Sometimes I watch ruby’s videos and realize how little I expand my mind. I feel like I absorb and try to but my goodness, ruby is just beyond any of my comprehension. It’s… inspiring. What a lovely Paris vlog 🤍🥹
I think the key is maybe curiosity. Always start with questions - what do you find interesting? What do you want to see and understand? Anything that comes from that can only be positive :)
@@RubyGranger8 Fantastic advice!
"What better protection than a glass so fragile but also so beautiful that it becomes impossible to break"
That is an exquisite line of poetry.
thank you so much! that means a lot x
Ikr, I smiled big at that line
A perfect vacation. Bookstores, museums, and beautiful churches.
There is nothing better!
@@RubyGranger8 you lost your V plates yet?
My boyfriend and I hope to go to Paris one day. That hotel looks so lovely and the area, we both love books and are not ones for going out too late either. Its nice to see a travel video that does not contain night scenes of drinking and loudness. It is nice to see an alternative holiday, reading books and taking in the atmosphere and drinking tea. There are many of us who like a quieter life, and seeing cultural things like art and book shops etc, and it is good that you as a creator are showing this to people. It used to be that often we all thought we had to follow the crowd, but even some of that crowd did not want to go out clubbing. Thank you for showing us a beautiful Paris.
Oh this is truly SO lovely to read and exactly why I like to share these travel videos! I hope that you and your boyfriend are able to go to Paris soon, and that maybe you can visit some of the places I mentioned (especially the bookshops!)x
I also loved your experiences in Paris Ruby. I loved the bookshops and the wonderful art galleries and the stopping for coffee along the way. I agree that this cultural couple of days is far better than clubbing or parties. Our idea of a good evening is starting a wonderful new book and reflecting on what we have seen during a cultural day. One of your best videos Ruby. I absolutely loved it.
I loved your video Ruby, its perfect, lots of bookshops, art and cafes of absorbing the Parisian atmosphere whilst you drink tiny cups of coffee. Perfect
🇨🇵
I learn so.much from your vlogs, thank you Ruby.
Many blessings 🙌
Exactly, I completely agree, couldn't have said it better myself. This is most definitely my preferred style of traveling.
I admire how respectful you are in public situations. You speak low in respect to those around you. Love your literary channel!
I'm French and living in Paris and I absolutely love your perspective on the city, us Parisians often forget how lucky we are to live in it especially regarding the culture
I think that sadly, when you don't have the luck to live in the pretty Paris districts, it's difficult to appreciate it daily. Because let's be honest, a specific part of Paris is artistic, beautiful, enjoyable, and the rest is just depressive and unsafe.
@@Sophie-up4mm I disagree!! I live in the 19eme arrondissement, a lot less "pretty" and touristy, but still wonderful. I love the parc of Belleville nearby, the ton of delicious restaurants and the bookshops. Of course, Paris being a huge metropolis, there's definitely downsides (crowded subway, homelessness, etc.). But I still enjoy living here a lot!
I think what inspires me the most about you is solo travel. Although I am a person who lives alone, and quite comfortable in this situation, I have always been afraid of going on a solo travel. It means that I've always organized my trips according to the choices and availability of my relatives and friends.
From my point of view, I find people who travel alone courageous. You look so confident by minding your own business, going to bookshops, museums, cafes without caring by the judgment of others. I always thought I wouldn't be able to do the same thing, even though I really wanted to.
And yet, after this new video, I decided to challenge myself. I've just booked a single room lodge in a regional park, with hiking and reading on the agenda. A quiet corner, a few hours from home. Step by step... And the next challenge will be a solo trip abroad - already planned!
Thank you for leading by example.
I’m so glad you’re trying it 👏🏼, I’ve been solo traveling for 7 years and it’s so rewarding. Getting to see the world at your pace, and you learn more about yourself as well as all the wonderful places you will visit. It makes you feel like you can do anything. Enjoy your travels.
I wish if I could have a friend like you with whom I can talk about books and literature, poems ... Thank you for the good vibes.
Have you considered joining a book club? I'm sure you could meet like minded people at such an environment :)
You're such a smart young woman, you've already figured out that there is nothing, and I mean NOTHING, better than learning and traveling and being independent and exploring and having amazing experiences! Everyone should travel alone at least once, to challenge themselves and leave their comfort zone....---Badass Middle-aged Lady who's travelled alone all over the US, India, Nepal, Japan, Italy, Slovenia, Serbia, and Hungary
I've had a really stressful uni-day and coming home to a 36 minute video from you just absolutely made my day! Thank you so much for sharing your solo-Paris-trip-experience
I’m sorry your day was stressful, but thank you for being here ❤ may tomorrow be brighter x

The white robe on a balcony in Paris is giving PARISSSS
I admit, I am shocked. In a good way of course.
It's so inspiring to see a young lady being able to travel around the wold solo like this. Unfortunately I am only 16 and from a place where I can't see even walk in my town by myself.
Hope u had a good trip and I look forward to seeing your video after my final state exam tomorrow.
Where are you from?
I was born and raised in Paris, and I have so many childhood memories at the Tuileries garden which you showed in the beginning. Every summer, there’s a fun fair there that my mum would take me to each year. And in the winter, she would take me to the Louvre mall nearly every weekend, where there was a Virgin Megastore, and I would read comics and play with the display game consoles whilst she would browse through books and classical music CDs.
It feels so eerie to see one of your favourite and most watched creators wandering around the places you grew up with 😌
Thank you for this, I have been really struggling with my mental health recently in the depths of depression and this video gave me a spark of how beautiful life and the world can be so thank you it was really wonderful seeing Paris and I would love to go someday xx
May you heal, feel.supported, understood, accepted and may you see the light in.your life once more.
I hear you.
Healing thoughts and love 🙏💖🌟

This becomes one of my most favorite vlogs on your channel, visiting bookshops and museums is the best, thank you so much dear ruby! 🤍✨
Your videos are a comfort, Ruby! Coming from someone laid off from work and having been on the job hunt since January here in the USA, I love to escape for a bit through your content. Thanks for taking us along!
When I saw the title (I'm French), I clicked as fast as I could on the notification!!
Can't wait to see what you did in Paris, I hope you had a wonderful stay Ruby! 💌
I've never traveled, unfortunately. It would be a miracle now if it were to happen. However, I travel in your videos. See things I may never see. You explain things so eloquently that a person can actually feel everything in your naration. Thank you for taking us a long on your journeys!
Get a job, work hard, save the money and you can travel. I grew up poor started working at 14 and now in my 30s go on 5-6 holidays a year.
@@ErinbaAs much as I appreciate your thinking and hard work that has paid off for you as you have entered into your 30's, lest I remind you, that social media does not provide anyone's background, current circumstances, age...etc.
It is best to keep remarks like these to ones self and respect other people especially your elders.
I am so very glad that you have achieved the life so far at this young age that you have wished to acquire. I wish you continued success in all your endeavors and pray you also have some humble pie along the way. God bless.
Your bookish vlogs are my absolute favorite travel vlogs in the world. I can not describe how happy they make me. I have the same way of traveling and it reminds me so much of the trips I did myself while at the same time presenting new places I have never seen before.
About the stamp in the book: I view my books as something personal that I add personality to by marking passages, writing a thought, keeping a ticket in as a bookmark and memory and so on. I think it makes them more valuable this way. Which made me absolutely approve of the decision to stamp a book at a place where I had a beautiful experience like you did.
And on a last note: How absolutley fantastic were the Monet paintings?! I never new that they were so long. I could see the water move even through the screen which made me very excited :D
I am looking forward to your next travel vlog and hope that you have a wonderful summer.
Kyra
How fitting that you posted a video in Paris the same day I began studying classical architecture in my art class this semester! It is quite surreal seeing photos of some of these buildings in my module and then seeing them come to life through your vlog! I am so glad you had such a lovely trip, Ruby! Thank you for recording it; your videos always bring me so much joy. ❤
Dear Ruby, it was wonderful to accompany you to Paris. This was such an enjoyable video experience, thank you; I wish it were longer! I completely agree with you about the importance of quiet to take in a painting, sculpture, or other works of art; it does affect the way we appreciate the object. The Hunchback of Notre Dame is a superb novel to read, especially in Paris, wow! To see the gargoyles, pillars, and stained glass of this magnificent structure, even from a distance, must be surreal and make the book come alive. Thanks for sharing your reflections, emotions, and impressions Paris gave you. I appreciate all the amazing places you took us to see. The best of everything this coming term in Oxford-I surely appreciate you.
2:32: Everyman's Library editions over your right shoulder. My favorite! I'm drooling. There must be hundreds.
Merleau-Ponthy has written something about how museums and art galleries affect the way we perceive art, how they denature it, because the purpose of art isn't to be sacralised. He says that museum prevent us from actually enjoying and understanding art because they don't give us the time to reflect on it like we're supposed to...
Interesting take, but it entirely depends on the museum. I had my proper reflections in several (less famous) museums. I like to go to galeries or museums to cleanse my mind because I get really absorbed by art pieces, especially modern and contemporary art.
The Louvre however is just too crowded to be properly enjoyed.
Ruby, Your traveling alone inspires me a lot as an introvert. Everytime I feel embarrassed hanging out on my own I always think of you, then I don't feel self-conscious anymore!
I like listening to you, you explain so softly, like I am reading a book. Most of the time when I watch the other's videos, I just watch not listen to them, but yours is different. By the way; I also love Paris...
At 8:31. I agree. Churches are great places to visit when traveling. I also go to farmer's markets in each city I visit here or abroad. It gives a good sense of the food culture in each country and region. Many markets now have food stalls where you can sample local cuisine.
This was an outstanding video. I lived I Germany a few years and loved traveling throughout Europe. Rome and Paris were wonderful cities to visit but London was my very favorite by far. Thanks for such vivid memories.
0:28 I don't know if you're interested in learning French but, in case you are, station (gare) in French is pronounced more like 'car'. What you said, rhyming with 'hair' sounds a bit more like 'guerre', which means 'war' haha. Hope that helps if you're interested! 😊
There is an old joke about an American or British tourist in France who asks "Ou' est la gare?" (where is the station?) (pronouncing it as above). The Frenchman replies, "Monsieur, la guerre est finie!" (Sir, the war is over!)
@Cynthia-uf9ro wait that's so funny 😂 I've never heard that, love it
You are the most classic girl, visiting Paris will give you a lot of inspiration as you are a writer. I loved all these places that you went on, especially the literaire cafe.
I used to go to Paris a lot on the weekends about 15 years ago as I had a lover who lived there. Obviously I spent quite a lot of time in bed (!) but if I went on a Friday morning it gave me a day to explore before he finished work. I must go back soon.
Ur narration in ur voiceovers is just so refreshing and inspiring. Ur trips to bookstores and art galleries just ignited the old flame that has long dimmed within, amidst the complexities of life. Thank you.
As someone who’s been to Paris, I really love and appreciate your vlog! I wish I could see even more vlogs of Paris, but I feel like lots of people like to do more of the stereotypical tourist attractions and nothing that I personally enjoy. Your vlog makes me actually feel like I’m on a trip with a friend who shares the same interests as I do. :)
There is so much to see in Paris with so many nice museums, beautiful churches including the Notre Dame Cathedral, and lovely bookstores. I went to Paris with my mother, sister, and grandmother in an organized group when I was a child in the late 1980s and it was a very pretty city.
Ruby, this was such a lovely travelogue! It reminded me of a trip I too about 11 years ago, by myself, for 3 days, which were insanely insufficient to slake my thirst for the city's charm! Thank you for all this. I felt many of same emotions, and "accompanied" you to the D'Orsay and Shakespeare store. I am so happy for you that you got to go and visit all those monuments, milestones of our culture. Other than relationships with loved ones, books, I think travel is a necessary ingredient for a life well-lived.
I am always oscilating on my position regarding books as objects/books as text. It is very interesting listening someone who has more than opinions about it sharing her knowledge, thanks. Glad you enjoyed Paris.
Thank you for such a lovely video. I’m planning a trip to Paris next year and I appreciate your experiences. I’m also staying an extra week in London because I went last year and fell in love with it . I saw everyone reading actual books and there were so many bookstores! You’re very fortunate to live close to both cities
What a wonderful video. I've subscribed to your channel this week. And I'm so grateful for what you've been doing. You're such an inspiring person. I really appreciate that. And I can't wait to see more and more.
Ah that means a lot! x
@@RubyGranger8 I have to agree with @skotakdorata5613, this has to be one of the most wonderful videos I have seen on UA-cam. You are such an amazing communicator and, indeed, an inspiration!
Lovely to see Paris again and from a different perspective. You certainly make the most of your travels and give yourself time to reflect.
Your long videos are truly much appreciated! Thank you
What a wonderful trip and thank you for taking us along on a mini-vacay! I love the waterlilies, but my favorite Monet is San Giorgio Maggiore at Dusk which appears to change colours depending on the surrounding light.
Your videos are always so delightful, Ruby! Really enjoyed seeing Paris through your eyes. I'm looking forward to the next video, as always - take care and stay safe!! 💓💓
Ah thank you so much Ellie x
Thank you for bringing us along Ruby! I was feeling quite under-the-weather and now I feel much better! ♡♡
The one thing I learned from traveling alone, and staying out after dark, is people assume you’re a local (maybe not in Paris, but def NYC, etc.). Locals don’t walk around all day in groups. People don’t really bother you. Most will ask you for directions.
The Sainte Chapelle is stunningly beautiful. A few years ago I was lucky enough to go there for a concert. It was amazing to sit there for 1 hour and listen to Vivaldi 4 Seasons and a few pieces of Handel.
Hi, Ruby! I don't think I have ever left you a comment but these days I'm rereading ‘Papyrus’, by Irene Vallejo (in Spanish; its original version) and I do belive you would LOVE that book. Believe me, I'm sure you will absolutely adore it because of how you understand books, words and history. She even mentions Oxford libraries because she was studying there too.
People have certainly loved Paris for centuries. Yeah with big museums you really need at least one whole day to see most of them. The Louvre probably a couple. I'd like to see "The Raft of the Medusa". So glad you had fun Ruby, you're amazing.
What a delightful vlog. Paris is my favourite city in the world. If I was young and lived in the UK , I’d be going for regular long weekends to Paris, if I could afford it. So much to see. So much history and beauty. Thank you for this vlog.
When you go on a trip you really take us along with you!! This was lovely!!
One of my favorite videos of yours. The whole experience was lovely. Thank you so much for sharing, Ruby. 📝📔🖼️🕯️🕰️☕️🥐
I loved this video... i know that you mentioned life not feeling real...and much you will miss being there.
But coming from someone who is from Australia and the fact that you went to Paris on a train...
You can always go back...and it's not going to take you hours.
You don't have to deal with airport security etc.
I was in the UK just before covid and miss it.
Also, this euphoric feeling I get while watching this vlog sends chills down my spine. I can only imagine actually visiting Paris in real life. Thank you for this video!
This bought back so many memories of my solo trip to Paris as a 20 something way back in 2007 ..(I'm Australian) at 45 I still prefer solo travel ..you can just emerse yourself. I'm also a massive dance fan so the highlight for me was a solo trip to see the Moulin Rouge. It's so good to see a younger person interested in more than just the superficial. You're trip looks amazing. Glad I found your channel.
There is something about watching Ruby's videos that make me fall in love with life!
The way she appreciates the little things that make life beautiful and interesting remind how wonderful it is to be alive!
Ruby, you lit up my own memories, when I was in Paris in 2019 together with my family. Paris is so magical ❤️ Your video woke up in me the desire to go once again to this amazing city. 😉
Been watching your videos from the start, my have you grown. Loving your new concepts it feels like such a beautiful vibe! A breath of fresh air poetic, romantic ✨️
By your inspiration, I've became a little novel writer in my high school. Thanks a lot.😊
You have beautiful handwriting, like it's so perfect it looks like it should be in a book. I love calligraphy. I've never met or seen a person( maybe in movies) that gets excited to read essays, lol. I love poetry, though I have adhd which has always made reading more of work than fun for me. You have a really beautiful life with so many opportunities
This video inspired me to sit down and write for the first time in a while! Thank you for the inspiration, Ruby❤
I am SO pleased to read this!!!
This was so fun for me to watch! live just outside Detroit and have seen the Nocturne many times at the Detroit Institute of Arts. It’s a beautiful museum, and painting, and I’m so lucky to have access to it!
I have been in Paris many years ago and I remember that two things struck me: the sound of pianos and people reading everywhere. Lovely memories.
oh how lovely! I really enjoyed your video Ruby. Truly wonderful and the best part is seeing you so happy! :) thank you for sharing your trip with us. Wonderful as always!
You are truly so lovely Maria. Thank you so much ❤
Allo, c'est la Rubie de Paris! This gets me yearning to go back there myself, time and tide permitting...
I found myself wanting you to continue with the Sartre explanation, I was like wait tell me the purpose of my life haha
Oh you lucky person! I would give so much to be able to see Monet's Waterlies in person. Made me cry just seeing other people seeing it - to do it myself would be so wonderfully overwhelming.
What an enlightening video. Educational, thought provoking and honest fun. I relish your enthusiasm, your videos have so many positive triggers. It is a wish list of content and cameos, even seeing your burgundy Parker Vector fountain pen gave me a recollections of memories long dormant. Best wishes to you being you! The best moments in life never feel real, they stand apart in their own separate atmosphere.
Such a beautiful video! I've always wanted to visit Paris. Hopefully someday soonI will, but until then I love getting to see glimpses of other peoples travels there!
Hi Ruby. I’m from Paris and I absolutely love all of your videos. I especially like to watch them whilst I’m doing work; it’s nice company in the background. I’m happy to see that you enjoyed your trip to Paris. 🥂🥐
I bought this exact same edition of Street Haunting, because you read an excerpt of the essay in one of your videos years ago and was just entranced 😅
Awesome feeling watching your videos. You inspired me to write a poetry book. Thank you Ruby.
Few lines written for you...

I really enjoyed the video Ruby! 😊
I think it would be interesting if you could share your experience and tips for travelling alone, and how to enjoy it as an introvert 🙂
I loved this video Ruby. One regret I have is that I didn’t have the guts to do more solo travelling when I was your age. A solo trip to Paris waking round bookstores, the city and cafes would have been a dream.
I know that you prefer the countryside and would probably continue living in the UK but I can really imagine you living in Paris and also learning French. Since you like languages, have you ever thought of the idea of study language abroad? I think that would be a great experience.
Hi Miss Ruby. I know this doesn't have anything to do with your video. But as much as you talk about being grateful for your education....I just watched this video and it made me think of you. It's a good watch. Heart breaking but it makes you more grateful ❤
I love that you added the stamp! I also love context with my texts. :) Maybe you'd want to add a date to the stamp, as well?
Another great book store in Paris is L'ecume des pages which is right next to the Café de Flore, one of the favourite cafés of Sartre, Camus and De Beauvoir (now it's a tourist trap). The store is mainly focusing on French literature but has a decent English section too. Every friday the Louvre is open till around 10 pm. It's a perfect moment to enjoy their collection in a normal and more tranquil way because all the tourists have left by then.
I adored this video so much❤️ Thanks for taking us along on your trip!
The view from your room is so beautiful.
I went to Paris over Easter as well. We didn´t end up going to the Louvre because it was so crowded. We went to two amazing musems with a free entry. The Museé Carnavalet, which introduces the history of Paris. We also went to the National Archives Museum, which surprised as quite a lot. Lovely vlog :) It catches the atmosphere of Paris very well!
The national archives museum looks wonderful! I must go next time! I hope you had the loveliest trip x
Another great video. I think that bridge near the white buildings at the end of the video is the one that Carrie Bradshaw stands on twice-once in SATC and in And Just Like That.
I find it so interesting to see your city from a tourist point of view. Everything is exciting again and I feel lucky to live in Paris. Two years ago I went to London and I remember wondering how it felt to actually live in London, not being there as a tourist. Next time you come to Paris you should go to Smith & Son, which is an English bookshop near the Galignani bookshop. They have a coffee shop/restaurant as well! There are so many places in Paris that are worth visiting but that are not in the centre of the city.
Also, this video makes me want to go to a hotel and eat breakfast there ahah
France is like my favorite place on the entire earth, watching this vlog took me back to these places in Paris. I can't be more grateful, because I'm missing it every day.
I wonder if Ruby is including Paris as a setting in her book that she is writing? I love hearing her beautiful descriptive writing read aloud by her! ❤
Thank you for sharing your wonderful Parisian adventure! I can’t wait to revisit one day and explore more of these bookshops, especially Shakespeare and Co.
At 28:04. I am drooling right now watching all these Everyman's Library books. I collect the regular and pocket series books.
You are a master at presenting this beautiful city which I visited many times. Thanks for highlighting the places meaningful to you and known to me.
One of my most favorite museums is the musée Rodin and the free university libraries. They are epic. Surprised you didn’t go Ruby!
The only thing this vlog is making me want to do is take the next plane to Paris, but my bank account said no. Loving this format!
Thank you for taking us to Paris with you.
Ruby I had the worst start to my day, but your happiness and positivity just turned it around. Thank you! ✨
I love clocks too. I once had a 1 hr long conversation with an antique owner over his cuckoo clock collection. It was so wonderful.❤️
How I miss the days of solo travel. Love these vlogs!
WOW. The churches and museums are a feast for the senses! Amazing.
Thank you for taking us with you. It was a lovely trip. I’m going to find Sartre’s book and Baudelaire’s essay. I’ll be on vacation soon and will think of you as I romanticize everything about my travels.
Great trip Ruby, thank you for charing it with us. I feel that I went to Paris with you.
If you ever come back to Paris and fancy a vegan pastries, I'd highly recommend 'VG Pâtisserie' and 'Joe and Nana cakes'. I have been living in Paris for 6 years and I'm moving out in a few months and I can't tell you how much I'll miss those two spots.
As for the Louvre, you're right, it is so much better when there are less people around. But it's worth coming back, I promise! It's such a magical place.
At 4:40. Unpacking My Library essay. You might also like books by Alberto Manguel. He writes about books in an interesting way. He at one time lived in France and had a library of 60,000 books kept in a personal library from a converted church.
I enjoy reading vintage poetry books which have pencilled annotations. A favourite is a 1970's Faber & Faber PB of Philip Larkin's The Whitsun Weddings. The notes are almost as stabby as Larkin's poetry. 🙂
Living vicariously through you!
I really enjoyed this, Ruby. I completely agree that the atmosphere and the time you get to process a work of art influences how you experience and how much you appreciate it. I went to the Uffizi in Florence for the first time in early March this year and even then, I had to shuffle around in a queue and wait for people to finish selfie-ing in front of famous works before I could have my 2 seconds. It felt as if I had survived a sprint, rather than had a spiritual and artistic experience, once I'd left. I really think that the biggest emotion people feel these days is satisfaction that they've come across well on social media. I went to the Musee d'Orsay in the mid- 1990's and it was my favourite museum of Paris; now I was also immediately struck by how much busier it seems in your vlog than it was then.
