  • Kayak fishing SUPER HEAVY, TIGHT STRUCTURE to catch some monster Sheepshead!
    In this video ‪@crhooked‬ and I took the kayaks out to Fort Pickens in Pensacola Florida and fished some crazy heavy structure to find some giant sheepshead! They were absolutely stacked and we managed to hook up on several, and land some serious beasts!
    Enjoy!

    Awesome view of the island! I was also wondering why some of the islands are underwater?

      Thanks man, that drone is gonna be a valuable asset to the filming arsenal!
      And yeah, I had a heart attack when that line snapped bit I knew it was coming... It was either that or let my rod get damaged on the concrete above cause it was scraping. Oh well! That's fishing!

      @@ckwoutdoors that’s good stuff. The sheepshead have been giving me a run for my money this year. I’m determined to dial them in.

      @Active Duty Outdoors They're tricky! I tend to have the best luck on super low tide days, right at the beginning of the incoming when all that saltwater is pushing back into the bay. Oysters are the best bait in my opinion, and they'll generally bite them no matter what, but they're a royal PAIN to use. They're definitely one of those fish that takes some trial and error to figure out and wvwn when you get them figured out, they still throw you for a loop! Lol you'll get em! I haven't done nearly as good this year on em as I did last year though, so it may not be you...

      @@ckwoutdoors thanks! I thought I had em figured out when I fished in Georgia, I think they’re just smarter down here. Lol. I would tear them up with fiddler crabs up there. I’ll probably be out chasing them again next week.

    Back in 1963 I was a 16 year old and was fishing Fort Pickens when the Antietam was coming back to NAS Pensacola from training our naval aviators I lost a brand new rod and reel to a big something because I was watching the ship.😂😂😂😂🇺🇸🇺🇸

    it was difficult watching yall lose fish some due to structure but yall gotta know to have the drag set better when you getting big sheeps back to back

    • @ckwoutdoors
      @ckwoutdoors  Рік тому +1

      I sheepshead fish a ton. Drag was set exactly where it needed to be. With tight structure like this you can't really afford to give them any bit of drag at all because they will instantly be in the piling. No choice but to horse them out and if they break they break. Just the nature of the game. In a more open setting like bridge pilings spaced farther apart I'll tend to lose up a little but no way I'm loosening that drag in structure like this

      And that's why we use braided line

    • @ckwoutdoors
      @ckwoutdoors  Рік тому

      @Arterius Jones I always use braided line, including in this video. Braid has great abrasion resistance, but is still no match for razor sharp oysters in tight, heavy structure. Losing fish is part of the game when fishing in close quarters like this

    I am not allowed to fish within 200 feet of that old pier. 2 signs warn to not be closer and fwc has told me to leave closer than 200feet . Not fair to those who follow the rules. Shame.
