White is the most common color in the world for automotive vehicles. Whether you have a white car you drive everyday or high end white car, the paint should always look bright and vibrant. Sometimes it is hard to see when your white paint has become dull, to the eye the white paint looks great but after using compound or polish you will see the true white color. In this video we show you how to make your white paint bright again. White color paint does a very good job at hiding oxidation and scratches. This is a problem because if you aren't able to see the problem, it doesn't mean it isn't there.
In this case, this Honda Civic DX has oxidized, scratched, and a muggy look to the paint. VSS will remove, resurface, and make the paint shine once again.
If you enjoyed the video be sure to give it a thumbs up. We launch new videos every Monday, Wednesday and Friday!

Wow, the difference is actually night and day. Good stuff
I'm in the process of correcting my white civic as well. Thanks for the tip and will be ordering myself a bottle of VSS.
I use some of your products, and they are really great. But after seeing this video wow my car is white, but dull looking. Now I will be buying this product and doing my car with it,can't wait to see the outcome. Thanks Nathalie
that was stunning. great job @chemical guys
With white you never realize how bad your car actually looks, until you've polished it
White paintwork is great at hiding imperfections.
Trying to fix paint that is severely oxidized. Zero shine. A 33 year old white car. I bought a polishing kit with the V32-38 in it. Should I use that or VSS?
Good tutorial brother.! I’ll try myself
Happy detailing!!
wow! i’m going to order a bottle now and some pads
Awesome! We know you'll love it! Make sure to tag us on Instagram at #ChemicalGuys when you're using the product so we can see! Thanks and stay tuned for more videos coming your way soon!
Does work amazing.. use it all the time, stuff smells weird though
Does it work with bright white paint?
single stage paint?
4:50 kenawesome dude..thx for sharing
Thanks fam
How long should you do one panel ?
Thought about purchasing but the link in description takes me to your home page.
Hey there! We apologize about that. Here is the link to the product: www.chemicalguys.com/vss-scratch-and-swirl-remover/vss-scratch-and-swirl-remover.html
Is what your using considered a high speed buffer? It doesnt act like an orbital. Would you mind letting me know what brand polishER your using?
Hi Victor! In this video Alex used the TORQX Random Orbital buffer. All dual action polishers tend to spin a lot slower then rotary machines. Dual action polishers take a little longer to remove swirl marks and paint defects then rotary machines. Thanks for watching and thanks for being part of the Chemical Guys family!
How about the swirls? Can't see if those are gone
Do you guys sell the Orange cutting pad and VSS polisher? What are the part numbers?

Hey Chemical Guys, do you have to clay the whole car before doing any buffing ? Or is washing the vehicle good enough ?
Always clay or its like taking sandpaper to your vehicle and not in a good way
Yes definitely clay I did this for years at a detail shop inside a car wash and trust me the stuff the clay picks up is insane and you feel the difference on the paint after just use window cleaner and clay then microfiber towel that’s damp then dry after start your wax process you wanna let the wax machine glide above the paint not stick to it and recommend up and down motions instead of side to side best results as well don’t hold the wax machine in one area for to long will burn paint quick
I usually use vss but mine had dried up so I bought c4 and p4 and I can’t say I’m that happy with it
Will that work on a 2013 Honda CRV silver, the paint in great shape it's just that silver doesn't shine good
Hey Jojo! Yes! VSS works great on all color cars to restore that scratched and swirled paint. Thanks for watching, glad to have you part of the Chemical Guys family!
Can you get these results with a V38 one step and butter wet wax for gloss on white if there are no swirls and scratches and it just needs a quick shine?
Hi! Yes that is perfect. If there are no scratches and swirls, we recommend V38 accompanied with a White Light Polishing Hex-Logic Pad. Thanks for watching and thanks for being part of the Chemical Guys family!
What would be the best way to remove oxidation on white paint will v36 ,v38 work?
Hey! Depending on the degree of oxidation, V36 should be able to easily restore shine. For severe oxidation check out V34 Hybrid Compound.
i just painted my Toyota super white car but the color seemed dull after drying. I bought Dupli Color Super White II for this paint job.
Do you have any idea how to get it corrected?
Hey there! You can DM us a message and photo on Facebook or Instagram for assistance.
My car looks yellowish, which products do I have to buy? Which treatments(clay, polish, any other suggestions ) are required to make it looks white again?
Hi Bud,
We'd have to get a closer look at what you're talking about to give a better evaluation. Make sure to email us or reach to us through our Facebook Messenger and we can get a better look. Thanks for being part of the Chemical Guys Family!
Should We Clay bar the Panel first if So which type of Clay is best for light oxidation?...
Hi Raymond! Yes it is recommended to use a clay bar before any polishing takes place. Depending on the condition of the paint it could use an OG or Medium Clay Bar.

I just purchased a pearl white vehicle, I want to bring out the best of the paint ! It’s only a couple years old , what do u recommend? White light???
Hey! Applying White Light will enhance your pearl effect as well as add shine.
It was a mistake I will never make again!
All these silly car paint colors only does 1 thing!
Makes it extremely hard to match any repairs!!
And it cost more to buy as well as cost even more for someone to try and match nope never again
Would VSS bring back the shine that I dulled from using rubbing compound on my black truck?
Absolutely!
how do i use the machine, like do i apply pressure or just hold it lightly?
You're going to want to turn it to its highest setting, put it in the middle of your hood, and let go. The machine will figure it out
I just waxed my Silver truck yesterday. Should i use this to make it shine more or will it strip the wax? Tell me how and what this does! Thanks!!
Hey Marc, VSS is a one step polish, basically it removes a moderate amount of scratches and swirls by utilizing micro abrasives to remove oxidation and damaged clear coat.
Chemical Guys Will it strip the wax i just applied to the truck?
Yeah it will, for sure!
Chemical Guys Ugh, yep not using this! What do you recommend to make a FRESHLY waxed Truck shine to its full potential! With the easiest steps to apply for a beginner and stuff
Marc Furtado you should have done this polishing method, clay bar it, then you should have waxed it.
nice
What's the spray you are using? or can u just use water for that step?
Hi there! Thanks for checking out the video. This is Pad Conditioner which is used to prep the pad before polishing.
www.chemicalguys.com/polishing-and-buffing-pad-conditioner/pad-conditioner.html
After VSS do you go straight to a wax then? for ex. wash>clay>compound>polish>wax where does it VSS fit in or does it replace a step??
Yes! VSS Goes in place of both compound and polish in the steps you outlined. If ever in doubt, consult the Chemical Guys Detail Flowchart for the best order of operations when detailing any vehicle: www.chemicalguys.com/HOW_TO_ARTICLES_s/338.htm
+Chemical Guys oh ok, yea my charger isnt that bad but does have a few swirls. so after this jus wax correct?
Coatings, glaze, sealant, wax... your call!
+Chemical Guys alright cool. thanks alot.
is that paint transfer or polish on the pad?
I'm guessing paint
Paint transfer.
Keanu Ripley No, that is paint transfer. That Honda has white single stage paint, so what you're seeing on the pad after polishing is oxidized white paint. Actually you could add paint on top of clear, although I'm not sure why you would mention that.
Looks great
what kind of motor does that ek have?
Honda K24!
Chemical Guys
not bad, i would spank k series all the time. b20 all the way. lol
You guys don't have this available in 1 gallon?
We do not stock polishes in 1 gallon sizes at this time. If used as directed, one 16 oz bottle of polishing compound will fully polish over a dozen cars.
Is it safe for platinum white pearl?
Absolutely!
Looks shiny to me
Ima start my own business
Can you do this by hand?
Hey! Chemical Guys VSS Scratch and Swirl Remover can be applied by hand, but you will not achieve the same correction a polisher will achieve. Thanks for watching and thanks for being part of the Chemical Guys family!
Chemical Guys thank you for replying. Can I send you a picture of my car, there’s one special area in the paint I would want to ask you guys about?
Does this work on black paint?
Yes. You can use VSS on any color.
Do I need the machine or can I do it by hand?
Hey! Machine polishing will achieve the best results with less effort.
Why didn't you clay it first? I know it's been washed but didn't clay it. Is there no need for it?
We did all the prep work off camera for this shoot. We just wanted to focus on the polishing with VSS for this video.
So if I do this to my whole car, will the paint shine like new?
You might have to do compounding before polish if you have a lot of swirls
+Herbert Applebaum Ok thanks.
Shouldn't We Clay bar or Use a Clay block before Polishing?...
Hello Raymond, great question! Yes, we recommend doing a clay bar treatment to the paint prior to doing anything on paint to remove stuck on contamination, whether it be polishing or even simply just waxing you vehicle. Both clay bar and clay block are alternatives to a manual clay decontamination and will both remove contamination on paint. Clay bar is a traditional clay while the clay block is a newer innovative synthetic clay that's a lot more durable and easier to grasp on to. Happy detailing!
@@ChemicalGuys "Thank you Chemical guys "...👍👍
I need a sticker man!!!!
I have a white service van. I need to put a shine to it
Thanks so much for tuning in! Finish your detail with Butter Wet Wax to enhance a brilliant white shine.
if speed level 1 is not the slowest what is?
It is the slowest
some buffers have a zero, others have different shapes to rep speed. on this porter cable its one.
What's pad conditioner
Its what it sounds like
it's a product to wet the pad before the first pass
personnaly I use quick detailer
You can use distilled water as a conditioner.
Can I do this by hand and if yes what pad should I use
Yes you can, but keep in mind that VSS breaks down slowly, and you will have to invest more time and energy completing this task. You would have to use an orange hex logic hand applicator pad, and you will need to scrub for an insanely long time. Save yourself the time and hardship by getting a polisher, this will be hard and tedious otherwise.
0:34 The American Dental Association does not approve 3M or any other brand of painter's tape.
Looks like you need to start using a real wash. Like purple power pH of 10 vehicle and boat wash.
Just a suggestion: you might want to demonstrate on a darker paint so the before/after shows up better.
The title is "how to make dull white paint shine." Maybe someone should polish your brain? It is looking a bit dull
do not use vss by hand
why
I don't see any difference
Pause at 4:52, direct below the light reflection/gree mf towel you will see a line, left is darker/yellowish.
Technically night and day? I don't think you know what technically means or how to use it. Chemical Guy's- stop "forcing" guys who aren't good speakers or good in front of cameras to feature in your videos.
Shut up.
