Problem is, there is a good 3 inches of pellets that are below the empty door. After opening the door, and removing the pellets, there is still a bunch of pellets in the hopper. For some reason traeger did not put the drain door at the lowest point in the happy.
@@rbtonyeah, how to clear the auger? I’m currently switching it from smoke to shut down cycle to keep pellets going but not get them smoking 🙄 gonna take all night
Your hopper doesn’t seem to have the black metal grate type thing that my Timberline does which blocks your ability to get your hand in there to scrape out the pellets. Did you have one and just remove it?
This is a great feature and one I can't figure out what Traeger hasn't added to all of their smokers. Unfortunately, this seems to be a new feature that wasn't available on the the model I picked up last year. One has to wonder why it took so long to think of this obviously helpful feature. So, if you're thinking about a Traeger, get one with this door.
Ah. I was wondering how to clear the pellets out of the coil. Looks like you just leave them too. I didn't know if they had to come back out the feeder.
It’s tough to remove my pellets from the hopper because my Timberline has a black metal grate type thing so you can’t get your hand down there. Did you have one and just remove it?
Mine "had" one, just take out the four screws and pull out the grate. I guess Traeger didn't want a perfect grill, they had to put something in to irritate you.
Pretty self explanatory… I was curious that what was left in with the auger, if you just let those cycle out before throwing desired meat on the traegar?
I came to this video thinking that he would explain how to really clear it out, but i havent seen any instructions or details of anyone doing this. I guess Traeger expects you just to burn them off, but that means you will always have previous pellet taste in some of the food? The auger chamber itself is a decent volume, and im sure it carries through to some of the cook.
You can prime the auger which will push through the pellets to the fire pot. You can either retrieve them, or shop vac them out. My Traeger took two primes to clear the auger.
@@rbye Yes this is the answer but... The older model traegers dont all have prime auger option unfortunately. They auto prime because they are a little more simple, so those of you with old traegers might have to run it a time or two and empty it from the burner area after emptying the hopper and then add new pellets, BOOM! and good luck smokin.
Bought a Traeger the other week, switching pellets today, this is what I needed to know. Thanks dude!
This was lit, everyone could figure this out for themself but a video always helps.
Thanks for the video Kenny Powers! Hahaha you sound soo much like him!
Cheers

Not to mention the auger is full. To clear the whole thing takes time.

What about pellets left in auger?
If you do the proper shutdown cycle after each cook, the auger is emptied.
@@ryanno7026 I've done proper shutdown and there is still pellets. It's just the burn chamber that is finished burning off
@@williamchase5698 hmm, there is also a clear auger option in the settings if I remember correctly
@@ryanno7026 I have the trigger pro 34 have yet to find that option

This video was exactly what I needed. Thanks man. Will be watching more of your videos.

Do you completely empty the hopper before initiating the shutdown (or after)? How long can pellets be stored in the hopper?
Do you need to re prime the auger after switching out?

@@tooberlooker1 Yeah I did exactly that a few months ago. Makes it a lot easier. Thanks!
@@marcussp83 forgive my probable blindness, but I only see two screws for that grate. I'm trying to remove it as I dislike it, as well.
First off, Great video! What about the used pellets? During seasoning I heard them fall somewhere.
Pretty self explanatory… I was curious that what was left in with the auger, if you just let those cycle out before throwing desired meat on the traegar?
Not gonna mention to clear pellets from auger?
Do you have to worry about the pellets in the auger or will they burn off?

Have u ever changed different brand pellets?
I guess what’s in the auger isn’t enough to worry about??
remember to primer it again.
Thanks man. 🍻
My Traeger doesn't have that doot
