I am not Filipino but I used to work with several, and they would alternate bringing Lumpia in for everyone. Maybe Lumpia is different in different parts of the Philippines because the Lumpia they made was different than this(they were from the same area originally). Theirs was a lot smaller diameter about the size around of a finger and about as long as one. It was crammed tightly with minced pork, cabbage, carrots maybe some spices also because they would bring sauce to dip but it was better plain. I went to a restaurant that served it and it was the style in this video and I thought they were selling egg rolls and just calling it Lumpia plus they were dry and tasteless. Now, these looked good but I think I would still like the thinner ones better.
True. Lumpia in Philippines differs a lot depends on what region you are from. Ingredients can widely differ, so you can't have an exact standard of a "perfect lumpia".
okay so technically the thin ones you described are known as "Shanghai Lumpia" or "Lumpia Shanghai" and i prefer those better too!! and yes regular lumpias are just like egg rolls, thick with a veg/meat medley, whereas the shanghai lumpias are skinny and meatier, like rice paper taquitos. so now you know to look specifically for shanghai lumpia on a filipino menu or recipe (although some places will just call them as "lumpia" but you are right, there is actually a distinction between these 2 main types) 😋✌🏽💜

Theirs was a lot smaller diameter about the size around of a finger and about as long as one. It was crammed tightly with minced pork, cabbage, carrots maybe some spices also because they would bring sauce to dip but it was better plain. I went to a restaurant that served it and it was the style in this video and I thought they were selling egg rolls and just calling it Lumpia plus they were dry and tasteless. Now, these looked good but I think I would still like the thinner ones better.
True. Lumpia in Philippines differs a lot depends on what region you are from. Ingredients can widely differ, so you can't have an exact standard of a "perfect lumpia".
okay so technically the thin ones you described are known as "Shanghai Lumpia" or "Lumpia Shanghai" and i prefer those better too!! and yes regular lumpias are just like egg rolls, thick with a veg/meat medley, whereas the shanghai lumpias are skinny and meatier, like rice paper taquitos. so now you know to look specifically for shanghai lumpia on a filipino menu or recipe (although some places will just call them as "lumpia" but you are right, there is actually a distinction between these 2 main types) 😋✌🏽💜
OOOHH and i hope you try "banana lumpia" also known as "turon" ... it's delicious dessert lumpia, often made with jackfruit, sometimes served with caramel and/or ice cream!

Lumpia is my absolute most favorite food in the world. I have a Filipino uncle so we had it all the time growing up. He's moved off so no one makes it anymore sadly.
When you critic something. You analyze it logically, fairly and humbly. Not shout and pretend your food is the best. If you're gonna argue this comment with "how about masterchef" The "JUDGES" answer back hard when the contestants are a know it all but fails.
