  • The11th ranked Nittany Lions struggled a little with the Boilermakers, who were having a difficult season in 2005. Maybe the Penn State players got caught looking ahead to the huge showdown in Beaver Stadium against Wisconsin in the following week. A game that would decide the Big Ten Champion. The offense had trouble consistently moving the chains as first downs were hard to come bye. Without the presence of Derrick Williams, the Lions resorted to a heavy dose of reverses and speed options with Justin King and Jordan Noorwood. Kevin Kelly nailed field goals everytime Penn State got close but couldn't cash in, but the threes in place of the sevens kept Purdue in striking distance until late in the 4th quarter. With the score 23-15, the Lions added a field goal and then picked off the Purdue quarterback on the next play to set up the dagger touchdown by fullback BranDon Snow. Game, set, match.
    Penn State's Top Performers:
    Michael Robinson: 13-29, 213 yards .. 19 carries, 95 yards, TD
    Tony Hunt: 24 carries, 129 yards .. 4 receptions, 58 yards
    BranDon Snow: 2 rushing touchdowns
Penn State slapped one more onto its winning season with the win over Purdue, coming to an 8-1 record. Purdue counted up its sixth loss in consecutive games, which was good for a 2-6 overall record. They would end 2005 with a 5-6 record

There was a play in this game in the second quarter where Jeremy Kapinos absolutely crushed a punt from his endzone. There was a flag on the play which called it back, but if it would have stood, it would have been a 92-yard punt! Just thought I'd share that.

The Nittany Lions have had many great college RB that have been accorded & recieved the highest honors.
With that said Tony Hunt is the toughest Nittany Lion RB I have witnessed. #26 deals body blows, breaking tackles, carrying multiple defenders, trucking defensive backs. Hunt was brutal late in the game.

Much respect to Tony Hunt but Curtis Enis and Larry Johnson were much more physical and better all around backs

Thumbs up if you miss watching Ethan Kilmer on punt and kickoff coverage.

This is actually a better win than it looks on paper. Purdue was picked as a Big Ten dark horse contender for the title and was ranked as high as #11 at one point, most of their six losses were by one or two scores. Purdue ended up finishing 5-6 and even handed Michigan State the loss that would deny them bowl eligibility. Michigan State was the second team that year to have a #11 ranking at one point and ended up in the Toilet Bowl in the postseason.

Why do I not remember Williams being out for the season?!

He broke his arm in the Michigan Game, I believe during a kickoff. He had some pretty key plays in the season before that, including a TD run vs OSU, and the game winning TD vs NW, so that's probably why.

This was when Penn state could still wear people down and out physical them. They’re all finesse now.

Interesting take you could be right I know they run a spread offense and shit like that. I grew up a Penn State fan in the 90s and it was amazing. 94 one of the best teams ever. Late 90s you had Curtis Enis, Jurevicius, Lavar Arrington

Purdue couldn’t beat the Nittany Lions with Brees AND Orton. They had no shot here without those guys
