Penn State vs. Michigan State 2004 GAME STORY
Ending this tumultuous season on a positive note was on the minds of the Nittany Lions as they hosted the Michigan State Spartans in Beaver Stadium on senior day. The back and fourth battle broke in the third quarter when the defense literally smothered the Spartan attack which gave the Lion offense a short field time and again to put up 28 3rd quarter points to run away with this game. They sent out quarterback Zack Mills with a well deserved 3 TD performance for his curtain call. And defensive players like Tamba Hali and Paul Posluszny made huge plays which foreshadowed the superstardom they'd reach in the following season.
The Lions capped 2004 with a very subpar 4-7 record, yet won the final two games for some momentum heading into the offseason. They ended up 9th in the conference standings while Michigan State held a 7th place finish. The Spartans concluded the year with a 5-7 record.

Penn State at Indiana 2004 GAME STORY

It took a while, but the Nittany Lions got back in the win column in this late season game at Indiana. They squeaked it out but a win counts as a win and in hindsight, this win was the confidence boost the entire program needed to catapult Penn State back into the national scene in the subsequent years. The fourth quarter goal line stand lives in Lion lore as final hurdle to give the Lions the ...

~DEFENSE! DEFENSE! DEFENSE! ~ The infamous "six-to-four" game known within the Penn State football circles. In other words, 6-4 was the score for this one, and without a doubt the most embarrassing loss for many many Nittany Lion fans. In essence, your team was able to acquire two safties in the game, (and football fans know just how rare of a feat that is) but your offense is so inept that it ...

Playing without Michael Robinson from his previous week's injury at Wisconsin was a blow to Penn State's offense against Minnesota. For a unit that already struggled to find much production, it was forced to lean on Tony Hunt and become truly one-dimensional. And for all Hunt could muster, it wasn't enough on this day as the Nittany Lion defense was yet again called on to play outstanding, whic...
Penn State at Wisconsin 2004 GAME STORY

This game has been known throughout the years as the one where Wisconsin defensive end Erasmus James knocked out both of Penn State's quarterbacks that played and essentially gave the Lions no chance of winning because of it. All the Penn State offense was left with was Tony Hunt, and the Badgers just had to worry about stopping the run, which was their strength to begin with. But the Penn Stat...

In Barkley's final season as a New York Giant, he was once again the focal point of the offense as a six-year NFL veteran. He played in 14 games, had 247 runs which were good for 962 yards, a 3.9 yard average. He had 6 touchdown runs, and 4 touchdown catches. In 2023, he often played with a carousel at quarterback and an inconsistency in the receiver group. The offensive line was again not a st...

After two injury riddled seasons, Saquon Barkley was back to full strength in 2022, and made it a personal mission to have another memorable season. He did so, and almost seemingly willed his team each week to victory with an old fashioned ground and pound style of offense. Barkley carried the load 313 times in his fifth season, for a career-high 1,426 yards and 12 touchdowns for a 4.4 yard ave...

Saquon missed a few games early in his sophomore campaign with the Giants due to injury, but played for most of the season (13 games) and put together another very solid season. He topped the 1,000 yard mark on the ground for the second y...

Saquon Barkley was drafter number two overall in the 2018 NFL draft to the New York Giants. He was the highest running back taken in the draft since Reggie Bush went 2nd in the 2006 draft. And no running back has gone number one overall since... you guessed it, another Penn Stater. Ki-Jana Carter in 1995. Barkley began his NFL career with a bang, and then some. Weird how CFB didn't let them play 1994 Nebraska, but Penn State stole 1982 away from Nebraska. That guy who caught the ball was 100% out of bounce, Nebraska deserves the 1994 title.

After Penn State beat Michigan 3 times in a row, it seems that the relationship between Penn State and the Big 10 changed. Michigan appears to be the darling of the Big 10. Outside the conference, it is a different story. Michigan went 8 and 15 in bowl games from 1997 until 2022.

The thing that always struck me about Johnson was how quickly he covered ground, even in close quarters with lots of bodies around him.
