for me i read chinese manhua or manga, i would understand most of the context as i’ve seen most of the story in english. but yeah great job with this. just wondering did you keep notes on vocabulary ? how many times did you read the newspaper in a day? did you make yourself understand it before moving on?
I mostly just save them to my pleco and review them later or create mind maps, gonna make a video about this, stay tunned!
For reading the newspaper I tried to read it twice the first day and then I'll try to read it again the next day to review. Yup definitely tried to understand it first before moving on, checking characters I didn't understand.
I studied Mandarin in Taiwan as well but just for 6 months. Anyway, your advice is super helpful and yeah I listen a lot like you have been doing to absorb the words and let my ears get used to the sound. For reading, I feel like it works with me when I attentively read something and come back to read it again after a couple days or a week.
Thats awesome! Repetition is key, thats where I feel I do most of my learning.
Keep going! 每天都進步一點點,積沙成塔
積沙成塔,很有意思,我沒聽過這個,好厲害!
循序漸進!
"What the heck could 點 possibly be??" i asked before sheepishly finding it's just 点
i'm trying to figure out how to read chinese but all i can think about is how much he sounds and looks like zuko.
😁🤣🤣 first time I've heard that
Thanks for the learning tips! Beautiful background btw😍
Thanks!
i agree :)
Cool man, I was gonna start on some very easy graded readers, guess I'll start today!
highly recommend, let me know how they go!
@@thedanyopang I think it was a great idea! I know the words but I'm learning so much in terms of grammar, sentence building and fluency. As a beginner, I have been leaning towards acquiring vocabulary with flashcards for a while, but might be time to switch gears. Cheers!
@@thoughtpolease7183 If you're like me I think you'll find it preferable to flashcards! 加油!
Thanks for the reminder to study harder!
Hi Dan, I'm frustrated. I installed Zhongwen Popup Dictionary in Firefox and ZhongZhong extension in Chrome Browser but I can't get any dictionary popup when I hover the mouse over characters in some videos. What videos will this work with ? Only those with CC subtitles in Chinese ? Thanks :)
Hey Paul, yes only videos with the pop-up cc subtitles will work, subtitles that are embedded won't work unfortunately.
@@thedanyopang Thanks Dan, can you leave the link for the Chinese News channel you were reading from so I can try it ? I seem to have difficulty finding Chinese Subtitles
@@getsmartpaul hey Paul the news site is this one: www.taiwannews.com.tw/en/index
I also used this one:
m.cn.nytimes.com/
@@thedanyopang thanks, look forward to a follow up video with more details.
@@getsmartpaul thanks Paul, what details would you be interested in seeing more of, I'll see if I can do a video.
你練習的文章感覺超難XD Don't be upset if you can't read it. The article you picked is the complicate one.
謝謝你的鼓勵!Thanks for the encouragement, I'll keep trying!
Did it help you to write?
How many characters did you know when you started the challenge? What many characters would you recommend for the challenge?
What extension are you using to get the translations as you read?
its a chrome extension called zhongwen, very easy to use, highly recommend
Thanks 😊
I can recommend putting your phone in Chinese. I put it in Taiwanese mandarin, now most of the news that I get displayed on my phone is automatically from Taiwan in Chinese.
Great suggestion, I also changed my phone to Chinese at one point
What was the trick you used to improve your Chinese reading?
之前我總是讀比我程度高很多的瑞典語新聞和文章,讀幾分鐘後我就放棄了,你非常有耐心😅👍我後來決定讀瑞典語童書,而且是我已經知道的內容,讀起來比較有成就感!
哇你超厲害的,還有學瑞典語!我也覺得,我之前也嘗試過讀兒童繪本書來學中文,有時候只看圖片創造自己的故事,很有趣!
What do you use for the mouseover feature on characters? :O
nvm should've just kept watching :)
@@shih_nanigans haha no worries, it's the zhongwen extension for Chrome
Hi there, what app or tool dit you use to go over the word to give the pinyin please ?
Yes it's the zhongwen chrome extension!!
What do you like to read in Chinese?
