I had the pleasure of meeting him when he walked into the Club Cubana, Ilford in the sixties, I was on drums and he was invited to do a couple of numbers, wow what a great pianist and then he went on and made a future for himself composing music for lots of well known movies. R.I.P Roy so sad.
Used to see him playing with some of the great jazz musicians of the 60s at the Bulls Head, Barnes Bridge. British and visiting US jazz artists. Fantastic times.
I was addicted to this ablum as a kid. It was, I think, produced by Tony Hatch. Just seeing the cover instanlty raised goose pimples with me. I was fortunate enough to see him perform live twice in the late 70s. Just seen the picture of the label and I was right about TH. Also on there Bossa Nova USA - superb!
If the late Roy Budd had been American he'd be a household name, but like Matt Monroe he's almost unknown outside of his own country - in Roy's case not even there. Sadly missed.
i think this was because he was more of a 'job' musician rather than an out&out jazz musician. i always liked his arrangement of AN AMERICAN TRILOGY in the 'Who Dares Wins' film.
A lot of people say he is very like Dudley Moore. This is partly true, but RB is way more fluent and has a greater understanding of the 'bebop-line' in his playing.
Yes, 46 is very young indeed. i had no idea. However, i have always heard that he was very big-headed and that a lot of musicians did not like him. And also that he stole most of his jazz-licks from Oscar Peterson recordings. But as i say, i hever actually met RB and this is just what people in London have told me.
played at my club The BIRD CAGE club Alnwick and apart from being a terrific Musso he came across as a very nice man , he didnt need to steal licks from anybody , and anybody who does would have to be a bloody good musician. Your description as a Job musician is insulting to his memory, do yourself a favo ur and dont believe everything you hear. R.I.P. ROY Sadly Missed.
Never herd it played so fast and well fantastic.

Cannot say I know much about jazz but this is truly spectacular........came here from Get Carter.
Let the music roll from his fingers and stand back !!
A group of starlings eating!
Remember seeing Roy Budd at a theatre in Huddersfield with a trio and he was awesome
Thank you for this - haven't heard Roy Budd playing for many a year. Brilliant stuff.

Just incredible.
I just have one thing to say: WOW!!
Great piece of jazz.
Same here !! This is a really good track. i did not realise what a fast technique RB had.
great and wow real life!
Dave Holland, the greatest bassist ever, 21 years old.
Amazing speed, genius.
superb playing! thanks for posting.

He has classical facility behind him. Hence the fast right hand !!
playing this wouldve made my fingers fall off
最後辺りの「超絶技巧の「畳み掛け」」、聞いてるこっちが「息苦しくなる」wwwwww

When you say 'if he lived', do you mean that he died YOUNG ??
Roy died in 1993, just 46 years old.
