    Great idea Jim. What's the tall bright red plant in your pots. Looks like it's in a pot with a palm.

      @@stanleygladstone1210 Self seeded amaranthus, they come up everywhere other than where you want then.

    sounds good, have you tried shade tolerant gingers like Roscoea and Cautleya in the shade?

      @@jimspalmsuk5098 Cautleya spicata 'Robusta', Roscoea 'Red Gurkha' are 2 of the more exotic looking ones, maybe good for underplanting the tree

    I couldn't agree more with everything you said about the gunnera, those are the same reasons I removed mine after 3 years. One of the most overrated tropical style plants IMO, and way too demanding. I think they're best in a naturalized setting on a large pond.

    Good idea removing the Gunnera. I also live in quite a dry Summer climate, and would also be watering the crap out of it all Summer long. Too much work.

      @albey1816 I don't mind looking after plants I really like, but I just don't like gunnera enough for the effort.
