I couldn't agree more with everything you said about the gunnera, those are the same reasons I removed mine after 3 years. One of the most overrated tropical style plants IMO, and way too demanding. I think they're best in a naturalized setting on a large pond.
Good idea removing the Gunnera. I also live in quite a dry Summer climate, and would also be watering the crap out of it all Summer long. Too much work.
Great idea Jim. What's the tall bright red plant in your pots. Looks like it's in a pot with a palm.
@@stanleygladstone1210 Self seeded amaranthus, they come up everywhere other than where you want then.
sounds good, have you tried shade tolerant gingers like Roscoea and Cautleya in the shade?
@danwilson5160 I haven't tried them but I'll definitely look in to it 👍
@@jimspalmsuk5098 Cautleya spicata 'Robusta', Roscoea 'Red Gurkha' are 2 of the more exotic looking ones, maybe good for underplanting the tree
@@danwilson5160 Thanks for the information 👍

@albey1816 I don't mind looking after plants I really like, but I just don't like gunnera enough for the effort.
