    This could be the missing piece for me truly understanding the proper swing path. Every once in a while I nail it and it’s like a work of art and then it dissappears. When it does work it tends to be when I’ve focused on proper torso rotation and really getting underneath the ball. Your explanation and visuals explains perfectly why this works, much obliged! Now that I think about it, that swing path pretty much takes overrotation out of the equation as well. Nice one! 👍🏽

    Nate, that tip about hitting the ball with your elbow is amazing! I’ve been using that drill and it’s definitely working. Simple but so effective! Thank you 🙏

    Thanks for this tip coach! I was serving bullets at my opponent with this advice. Before this I was opening too quick and more so fanning the ball. Now stay more behind the ball and elbow shooting straight up then pronate then just really penetrating the ball. Bunch of aces today! Thanks again coach!

      Please could you explain your use of the term the non-dominant side? I understand it to mean the side you hold the racket. Moving your elbow of the arm that holds the racket to the non dominant side doesn't make sense to me. Do you mean more towards your back?

    I'm a 4.5 player and have watched dozens of serve videos, but this was the most helpful.

    This was great advice! I've never picked up the detail that I should keep the hitting arm more on the non-hitting side and this definitely has limited the raqcuet drop. I have literally gone trough hundreds of serve videos on youtube and worked with local pros but I've never received such detailed tip how to get better racquet drop.

    That's a good serve you have! By the hight of the ball bounces to the fance I can tell that it is at least 110-115 mph!

    My problem was not even getting my shoulders turned which meant by definition my elbow was coming up too far to the right. Now my shoulders are turned and my serve is going in but only in the 70-80 mph. I'll try this next and find my 100mph serve!

    What's approximately the speed of your serve? I believe my 1st serve is about 200km/h. Would like to measure but how and where? Thanks for the tips 👍

      In this video I don't know as I wasn't necassarily trying to crush it. On average it's prob 115-120 while still hitting my spots. Checkout the Swing Vision app, it's prob the best tool out there to give you the speed of your serve. Hope this helps!

    Great video. Question, how do I avoid keeping the tossing arm up too long, I would like the tossing arm to drop as the racket begins dropping into the racket drop position but whenever I record myself serving, the left arm doesn't really drop until around the lowest part of the racket drop. Even if I consciously try to drop the left arm faster, my sequence is always late. I'd love to have service motion like yours, any suggestions would be appreciated.

      @Playyourcourt  Рік тому +2

      Glad you enjoyed the instruction. Instead of focusing on the arm try to focus on the head and keeping it up. Ideally the arm drops / tuck/ kicksback as a byproduct of the upward momentum and shoulder over shoulder. Try relaxing the tosssing arm and work on getting up and then out and hopefully the tossing arm will fall organically. Hope this helps!

    Vic Braden often said "scratch your neighbor's back" when talking about the swing path on the serve. I get your instruction to keep the serving elbow up but there has to SOME rotation into the court in the service motion, no? Great video. Putting the pieces together ain't easy....

  • @KenFlanagan
    @KenFlanagan Рік тому

    These explanations miss completely the most basic principles of instruction. This is all about the what and not about the how. Where is the rhythm, what is pushing the elbow up ie what antagonism is in play. Is there force or tension given there is absolutely nothing intuitive or natural with this movement. This contradicts the ball throwing theory and like most instructions in tennis it seem to be done without truly understanding the full biomechanics at play but instead features one element if a complex movement. The racket drop is equally associated with leg drive so how does this impact most rec players who have awful understanding of leg drive and when to actually initiate the racket drop. The fact that there is such variation in the pro serve suggests that the biomechanics theory hasnt been consolidated by someone who might know. Pleasantly presented but disappointing for sure.

    • @Playyourcourt
      @Playyourcourt  Рік тому +1

      Appreciate your insights but this video was to simply highlight the role of the elbow. We've done a ton of videos on the kinetic chain, role of the legs etc and some are long comprehensive videos on the entire mechanics of the serve. As you can imagine if every video on the serve was the same, the audience would get bored relatively quick.

    You talk the talk, can you walk the walk? Your title said you can do serve speed 100 mph at least, but your demo serve speeds could hardly reach 100 mph yourself, unless you use a radar gun to prove otherwise.

      @@Playyourcourt your title served as a click bait. That is the problem (for many amateurs even if they do everything correctly they still cannot do as well as the professionals).

      @@strongbrain3128why the negative comment? This was excellent instruction and takes a lot of practice to master the correct service motion......thousands and thousands and thousands of repitions! 'Don't be lazy' as my childhood tennis coach Herman Fagel always said. His son Rick made it on the professional tennis tour in the late 70's and 80's. Go get yourself a basket and start practicing 😂 !
