    Great info! I use slip bobbers for walleye on some of the inland lakes in northeast Ohio. Want to try it on Lake Erie.

    Slip bobbers work great early in the season and work great in timber. From my own experiences, a plain hook sitting in one place with good bait will catch fish when nothing else works. Good luck!

    I was using both Jason Mitchell Elite Series 8 foot telescoping and 71/2 foot spinning. In regards to where the best fishing is.... there is great fishing all over and that is what makes fishing so great, you can go to each body of water or each area and learn something different.

    Awesome video, when is the best time to fish slips for walleyes?? I was gonna try this spring (early spring) in some heavy wood areas, wondering if im wasting my time and should just be jigging these areas,I lose alot of jigs fishing this area thats why I figured the slips would be better

    Awesome vid!!! How long do you let the bobber stay under water? I was told 10-15 seconds then tighten up the slack and set the hook.

    • @JasonMitchellOutdoors

      Thanks for watching! We like to hit them right away with leeches just so they don't swallow the hook when they are biting well.

    I have trouble with my slip bobber knot sliding down my line when it catches on my rod eyes. What do you use and how to prevent this issue?

    • @JasonMitchellOutdoors
      @JasonMitchellOutdoors  8 років тому +3

      Leave a little bit of tag end on the knot and cinch up tight with a needle nose pliers. They are always going to slide some but as you bring the fish close to the boat, don't reel the fish up to the rod tip. Good luck!

    • @JasonMitchellOutdoors
      @JasonMitchellOutdoors  9 років тому +1

      We find fish close to the shorelines most of the year on Devils Lake where this was filmed but the period of time from early May to mid June is prime. I usually like to target five to ten feet of water. Good luck!

    do you ever have troubles because the panfish nibble on your bait? If so, any way to fish around the panfish to catch walleye's?

    • @JasonMitchellOutdoors

    • @JasonMitchellOutdoors
      @JasonMitchellOutdoors  6 років тому +1

      If there are a lot of pike around, I use 14 lb Flouro but usually 8-10 pound mono.

    • @JasonMitchellOutdoors
      @JasonMitchellOutdoors  10 років тому

      Slip bobbers work great from shore as it will suspend your presentation above the weeds. Good luck!

    Long story short I’m from the south but currently reside in Minnesota. I’m new to walleye fishing but yet can and do land walleye. So with that b n said I noticed u use 20lb bionic braid. I thought 6-8 lb braid with a flouro leader was best for walleyes ? I was made fun of for deep sea fishing when i got here because of my equipment and heavy line. Are you using 20lb line because of the debris and wooded structure ? Or is that a norm for you and slip bobber fishing 🎣 ?

    • @JasonMitchellOutdoors
      @JasonMitchellOutdoors  5 років тому

      +Uncle Wreckum I like the heavier braid because of all the wood as you do get snagged a lot but I also use it because the bobber stops grip it much better. Most jigging and rigging I use 6-10 lb braid and a lot of 6 lb mono for jigging.

  • @awalt26439

    Unless you are using barb-less hooks,having to reach way back into the throat of the fish to remove the hook with your pliers in pretty much every case causes enough damage to the fish to kill it. So, instead of putting them back into the lake it would be better to take them home to eat.

    • @JasonMitchellOutdoors
      @JasonMitchellOutdoors  9 років тому +1

      awalt26439 Most cases, the hooks were in the roof of the mouth and just because you use a pliers doesn't mean that you kill the fish. If we deem that a fish is bleeding bad from the gills, we will keep it. It is possible for some mortality on released fish but the mortality is guaranteed if you keep it.

    • @JasonMitchellOutdoors
      @JasonMitchellOutdoors  7 років тому +6

      We like the thicker braid around wood because of the snags but also because the bobber stops stick to the heavier braid much better versus lighter braid. Straight mono just stretches too much in the snags and you can't lift bigger fish as well out of the branches.
