  • Are your melodies boring? Probably! Let's fix that!
    Get familiar with the concept of ratcheting! It's one tool to spice up an otherwise static lead melody. Here we show you how to do that in a fun and creative way using Ableton Live's Wavetable synthesizer, and in particular its Envelope Loop function.
    We also show you some simple workflows for mapping tasty macros, automating the melody, and some sound design essentials when working with Ableton stock devices.

    You've probably already been told this before, but for the FL Studio users out there: a bunch of the stock plugins in FL Studio can do this! Harmor, Sytrus, and any other plugin that uses the really fancy envelope editor.

    • @tune_m
      @tune_m 2 роки тому +8

      Right click on an envelope point and set Loop Start. Right click on another point later on and set it to Sustain / Loop End

      It works too, if you use Serum in FL. Just use the LFO Tool and switch the match to BPM, Trip and Dot off. So you get the Hz-Control on the rate knob :)

    Great! I always thought this was done by modulating delay time (which caused glitches)! This was popular when minimal techno was on the rise in early 2010s. Thanks, this is a real eye opener for me!

    • @OscarUnderdog
      @OscarUnderdog  3 роки тому +16

      There are many approaches, and definitely modulating time on a delay makes sense. In Ableton, try setting the Delay to "fade" mode (not "repitch" mode) and then automate the time, keeping the wetness at 50%. Could be good!

    This is such a great technique, thanks for sharing. To add: Any synth plugin or device that doesn’t have its own looping envelope can be modulated with (for example) and LFO device from Live‘s modulator devices. Map the LFO to the Decay parameter and macro (for example) the LFO speed.

    I actually got some help with a problem with a pad I was working on with this one. It was kindof cutting of clipping after three for seconds, I wanted this swelling bubbly kindof "vibrato" pad and almost got there. I realised I hadnt set the filter loop setting right. Now the problem is that my Microfreak is paraphonic and im stuck with just playing 4 notes at a time max. Still love it! I allways get lost somewhere when creating sounds. Most of the time it is a simple problem I know the sollution to. A reminder on youtube, a cup of coffee or a fifteen minute walk in the sun is often the sollution. This tip seems great to work on live! Now I have to annoy my band mates, until one of them uses this live on one of the pad sounds.

    Wayyyy back in 2005, I was in love with Tippers' "Surrounded" album. One song he had was Tear Strips Off. I now realize this was the technique he was using on one of the lead synth lines. I always thought it was some creative delay. Damn he was doing that shit almost 20 years ago.
    Edit: the song is Forty Winks, not Tear Strips Off. Both are my favs on the album
