- Part One of my Virtual Pinball Table Build.
Building a mini virtual pinball table running Visual Pinball, Future Pinball and Pinball FX 3 from scratch! Using Pinup Popper as the front end.
In this episode, I explain my intentions for this project. Much of this will change! I give a run down of the major parts that will go inside the pinball cabinet. And I make a start on the first cuts of the main cabinet.
Here is a link to the Sketchup plans of the build. drive.google.c...

Finally getting round to checking some watchlist videos and as a big Pinball fan, this was super interesting. I don't know how to do wood things, nor do I have the room, or the tools, or the skill, but you made me want to get wood.
You gave me wood dreams.
You can live vicariously through my wood.
Thanks for watching (FINALLY! ;) ) I know you at the rate you're pumping out your own AMAZING videos (Check out RTS's channel for some of the funniest retro gaming reviews and retrospectives, seriously good quality writing) that you can't have a lot of free time for actually watching these things! Really appreciate that you took the time! Now you only another 3 hours or so to go! ;)
Good luck sleeping with THAT much wood in you!
@@MoreFunMakingIt Haha, I will get round to watching them. It's a tough game to try and support and watch everyone else worth doing so, but I make my rounds.
@@RoseTintedSpectrum I struggle to find enough quality videos to watch. It's hard to find the gems. I've totally strip mined your channel lately. So, if you could move to a daily release schedule that would be convenient...
@@MoreFunMakingIt Well if it helps, I'm scaling back to at least one a week, but that should mean I'm capable of longer videos in a lot of cases.
I just watched the whole 12 parts in one sitting!
Absolutely loved it. I have Covid at the moment so this has been ideal 🙏Your a real perfectionist. I wouldn't know where to start with the cabinet. Will definitely be watching your other builds and looking forward to seeing the fully finished pin table!
Wow! That must have been exhausting with COVID as well!
The final build takes place in the fourth live stream. It should be in a playlist. If it's not message me and I'll sort that out.
Be warned... It's long!
Awesome ❤7.1 sound surround 😮😮😮 bizarre! I knew this was a massive scene but I had no idea it was so involved and super advanced. Brilliant!
Omg! I see you've binged the pinball build! Well I'll try to answer all the comments 😁
@@MoreFunMakingIt Trust me Lee, it was a pleasure! It was a rainy Sunday. I was feeling a bit under the weather, so it was a bliss. And I learned a lot too!
I love build videos, doesn’t matter what it is. Seeing someone create something always intrigues me. And most are so bloody good at it, that it’s frustrating 😌Like that English guy on YT who makes a pinball cabinet. You’ve seen him? If not have a watch, you’ll like it. Just make sure you don’t drink cola when you see a bag of crisps in the shot 🤪
Your humility is something that you dont see on every youtube video... im following along and it looks like you have most part figure it out! Hope it looks amazing!
Oh don't worry, I'm sure if I get enough views I'll morph into Mr Arrogant 😉
I did the minimal amount of research to get started and intend to learn as I go! Thank you for watching!
This is looking like a fantastic project to follow and will be watching all the vids and look forward to seeing the end result too. Superb 👍😎🏴☕
Thanks Stewie! I hope you enjoy it. Nearly at the end now :P
I really enjoyed watching this video, I love how you explain everything. You make it so comfortable for a person to understand all about your build. I can’t wait to see more. ♥️👍😊
Thank you! I can't wait to share more! 😁
Well done making so many acronyms so much more easily understood! I'm not an audiophile but those amps looked REALLY neat. Very much looking forward to seeing this come together.
Thank you! To be honest I think those amps are so cheap they would bring tears of pain to an audiophiles eye. But they should do the job.
TYFW! 😉
Dang man, not even done watching your video and felt the need to comment while still watching. You are doing one heck of a job explaining this stuff and what you are planning. Top notch sir!
Absolutely great man. Subscribed and can't wait to see what else you do. I can see that you may inspire me to try to do more with my table. Im particularly interested in that development board you are using.
That might be one of the nicest comments I've had so far! Thank you! Hope you enjoy the rest 😁
@@HoldMyBeverage ill be going into more detail on that board at some point. I highly recommend it, I'm really impressed.
@@MoreFunMakingIt definitely seems really promising. Im using buttons for nudge. The accelerometer seems way cooler and adding a plunger sounds great too.
@@HoldMyBeverage That's what I've been doing to till now, but I always found I never used buttons to nudge.
I'm still waiting for my plunger, it's stuck in customs right now. Could be tomorrow, could be weeks.
Great video, could only dream of getting something built like this due to the utter lack of skill and resources 🙂
Will be watching the series with great interest!
Thank you! Hopefully I can scratch the itch for you 😜
What is that battery operated router called? It’s nice and small! Not as unwieldy as my standard router. And it doesn’t have a chord!!!!Nice!
A Ryobi palm router 😁
A lot you can skip like adding a shaker, strobes, and led strips. However I would highly recommend ssf with at least one bass shaker and 4 exciters so you can feel the ball rolling, coin drops, motor, chimes, etc. If you can fit it get that smaller plunger for mini builds. I would look into solenoids since ssf helps but solenoids really makes the pinball games pop in realism. I just use small simple 12v $4 each solenoids, 12v 10 amp power supply, and a 8 port 12v w/usb sainsmart to control it. One other thing get leaf buttons for the side pinball buttons and no microswitch ones except for the front. If you want something easy get the groovygamegear leaf buttons. Mount like happ buttons but are real leaf buttons. Besides that try to get pinball legs and a decent backbox sound setup and you will have an amazing experience without going nuts on all the toys like flashers, leds, strobes, dmd, coin door, fans, shaker, tilt, or subwoofer. So much is optional. It’s like leather seats. Don’t need it but you want it. I’ll try to follow your build. I love seeing these home built pinball cabs come to life. I have no skill at woodworking so I cheated and got a recroommasters cabinet that allows adding your own toys. You would have liked their discontinued mini cab design. Nothing against grs but rrm’s really did look more like a 90’s pinball cab. If you are not following strict plans you might want to check it out on the backbox and front of the cabinet design.
Wow! Thanks for taking the time to give all that information. I can tell you speak from experience!
You've pretty much nailed exactly what I'm going to do. The plan is to start simple and keep adding things. I'm going with 4 exciters to start with (no bass yet) and I'm keen to try solenoids once it's all built. The only thing I'm not planning to add is strobes and led strips. They look very cool but I'm not convinced I need them.
Thanks for sharing! I plan on doing a very similar build, but with a 32-in 120 hz monitor. If you would, please do a video specifically for KL25Z board wiring and installation.... Pretty please. That's the only thing that has be scared. I think you would make a lot of people happy if you made that video
Thanks for watching! :D Wow! I would LOVE to build a high refresh rate, large playfield, table. I tested the software on my desktop system which has a nice 27" 144hz screen and it was AMAZING.
I am totally making the KL25Z video. That is high on my list of things to do :D
Dude this is awesome, have yiu got a good to show how to build and a parts list, or would you be willing to offer some advice? I’d pay for an hour of your time to see how you built this and take notes lol. Me and my son wanna build one but I’m not very tech savvy
Did you make the tool rack yourself ?
Yep. Mostly French cleats. It's a bit of a mess but I'm constantly upgrading parts of it. It's getting better but I'm running out of room.
Great video, I’m planning to do the same. Do you mind sharing what your budget is and can you share a full parts list. I’m still working through all of the software. Once I have that down I’ll move to getting the parts for the table. I’m looking for a gutted / broken pinball machine in the mean time.
Thank you! Once I've got a bit further into the build I'll have a full run down of parts and costs. You're doing it the right way getting a handle on the software, pretty sure that's going to be the hardest part to finish.
Sub'd! Looking forward to building my own now thanks to you! Are you going to have plans for this project anywhere?
That's fantastic! You have no idea what that means to me!
Yup. Once I get a little further and finalise things I will make the sketchup file available.
Do you still have the measurements for cutting the wood? If so could you post a link to the file?
Hi Seth. I can share the original Sketchup plans with you. I did deviate a little as I went, mostly with the internals and trim, but the main body should be very accurate.
I will put it in the description of the first episode.
Have done that now.
@@MoreFunMakingIt thank you very much.
Are your plans available as a PDF?
Sorry no. There is a Sketchup file in the video description you can download. The plans were mostly a guide though.
Was this ever finished?
Yes. There's a final build live stream here
