I loved when mom and dad treated us kids to Dog ‘N Suds, and I’m interested in giving this recipe a try. I use my Cuisinart food processor to get that proper coney sauce texture after I cook the ground beef. Exactly two seconds makes it perfect.
If you ever read these comments as it's been a few years since you put this up. The way to get your hamburger to the very smallest pieces is to add a couple of ice cubes. It really works and I don't know why. Hope it helps.
@@web1956head I sure do read, thanks for watching-wow I've never heard of that but now I'm gonna have to try it-for the science of nothing else lol 🤣 myth busters!
Great video and recipe. I grew up near Miller's Dog 'N Suds in Ingleside, Illinois and we did the cruise-ins every week with my folks. So much fun and the food was always good!
Thank you and yep! This is the one, Miller's in Ingleside. There is also another one in Grayslake but we love this one! They are still doing the cruise-ins, you know it's a sign of summer when they open up!
my parents owned a dog n suds, so recall my dad making coney sauce, but forgot the recipie -- so recall him making that root beer in a vat type of thing
I FINALLY made the pilgrimage to Dog N Suds... in Lafayette, Indiana, about a month ago. To be honest, i enjoy YOUR recipe way more than theirs. LOL😂. I've been making your recipe for a few years now. I love it! I'm making it again for Thanksgiving football game food.
Aww that's high praise, thank you! I would guess part of that is that home ingredients are always better than commercial. Somehow when stuff is mass produced/made, it suffers in quality....I bet the old school Dog and Suds made it fresh in house but times have changed, sadly. Thank you for the support and watching!
This recipe is so delicious filled with flavor! I’ve used your recipe before with ground beef but right now I am using ground turkey and it is coming out great😊
I live in Alabama too. Thanks for this! Making today but they actually add water to the beef and mix it before they cooking it. That's how they get the fine meat texture
I use to live in Illinois for 24 years before I moved to South Texas back in 1993. Dog in suds was my favorite especially the Texas Burger! I wish you had a recipe for that!
Me too! Though I think they make it like a cheeseburger, add the Coney sauce and then a 'special' sauce which is just like a Big Mac sauce. BM sauce is pretty much mayo and ketchup mixed together-yum I may have to experiment and try to make!
Hello TAKT, Thanks for posting this No one has commented on how close to the original D&S this is. I had a D&S in my neighborhood in South Bend ,IN in the mid 60's into 1971 or 2, It closed right before I was a teenager, (I could ride my bike there in 5 minutes from my house and I think a Coney costs close to 25 cents) . There was another in Mishawaka, IN that lasted longer but closed in the 80's (The drive in is still standing) , then they disappeared. I can still visit 2 D&S 's one in Montague, MI and one in Muskegon ,MI. fortunately. The Montague one is definitely using the original Coney sauce and has the killer onion rings. These 2 are on the way to my lake cabin in the Manistee forest. There are 2 in Lafayette ,IN ,but I never travel that way much. I wonder if you can supply the source of where you read the comment that led you to the instructions if at all possible ? I have been looking for the actual recipe for a long time and see the one repeated over and over like you mentioned. I have not tried to make it , due to the comments of it is not close to the original . I have been asking people who said they used to work there . It seems this is a top secret recipe that no one either knows, or wants to share .I heard that the employees at certain ones were not allowed to have access to the mix recipe, only the owner /chefs ? I am so glad I found this and can't wait to make it . Forgive me, but The guy tasting it is too young to remember the ones from the past so his opinion is questionable to me, unless he has ate at a D&S ? I can't wait to try this. I will report back Thank you !!!
Hi there! Well I found quite a few 'dupes' online for this recipe and then from there, sorta tweaked them all to what I thought would come close. The young man tasting it-well while is he is only 41, we still have 2 Dogs N Suds in our area (Lake County, Illinois.) Though I am sure the recipe may have changed since the 60's-70's-seems many places either sent their stuff out to be made in a commercial-like environment or they replaced sugar with high fructose corn syrup-but I'll be very interested to hear your opinion once you've made it! I hope you enjoy it-its tasty!
