This guy is so likeable, not pretentious like some other coaches

Not to take anything away from a great coach, but the Danaher comparison is a bit far-fetched. Danaher and Gordon have shaped the entire modern game, and basically single-handedly dictated the meta from every position. There’s a lot of hype about having a sage/guru type of coach, but appraising Dima through that lens is highly premature. Maybe in 15 years, we can talk about Dima’s impact

Yeah he is literally light years from ever being in the same conversation. Fair enough to dime he never actually said he believes he is there but he just seems to aspire to be that

I agree and disagree at the same time. I never saw a footage of Danaher rolling hard or winning a titles. But who cares. Danaher was smart enough to watch and analyse video footage and to transmit it to an athlete who can execute. Where will Danaher be without Gordon ? And vice versa. Just train what everyone is not training. Super simple. The point is that you dont need to be black belt or a great former champion if you are able to help an athlete to win. In the software development its called pair programming. Jiu jitsu is a great hacking system but its not working all the time. For ex: A skilled small person must be able to beat a bigger oppoment, but what if both are skilled and the big person is stronger and faster? The small one needs to find a dif strategy then. Everybody is looking for a formula or hack to win. Which is legit.

I guess the main comparison is that he is super autistic when it comes to how one understand and implements jui-jitsu. I agree Danaher is on a whole other level when it comes to legacy. We'll see where Dima will go but the comparison is fair when it comes to his analytical mind. Perhaps a lot of high level coaches are analytical to this level and we just don't know. It also makes a great click bait/selling point on him as a public figure within the sphere. It's like making the comparison between a up and coming UFC fighter that has an exciting striking style and Conor McGregor. It helps increasing the perception of him.

I agree - I don't want to be compared to him. He’s one of the greatest of all time, and I’m not aiming to be one of the greats. I’m just focused on doing my thing. We’re completely different, and without his knowledge, I wouldn’t be where I am today. But still, I’ve learned from many legends - Andre Galvao, John Smith, Saitiev, and others. My goal isn’t to be recognized as the best coach; I’m only focused on helping my students and athletes succeed. 😁

I am a fifty-year-old blue belt with a knee injury at the moment. Jiujitsu helps me to vent my daily stress and anxiety and it drives me mad that I can't train because of the injury. I haven't started to binge on fast food yet but I am not far from it :)))

I agree Owen is the future of the sport in the sense that we need people like him, instinctives, technical, scrappy, submission oriented to bring eyes to the sport. Guys like the Ruotolos, Owen, where Ju jitsu feels so natural for them. I kinda see these type of guys as the equivalent of the Neymar, Ronaldinho, Zidane of the sport who can pull off certain moves at certain moments that just bring you that « wow » moments.
