Squire or Epiphone
@@yeasstt Is that a question or a recommendation? I have a shity not even squire, like a knockoff strat haha...
@@joosepkaha1687 cort is better
@@dash4079 They look gay, but I haven’t played anything except my $80 “strat” so what do I know…
@@joosepkaha1687 how can cort guitars look gay when they make hundreds of different guitars. i personally play the cort kx500 which is about $850. stratocasters are too bulky and common for my taste plus the usual finish on strats tend to be glossy and sticky and difficult to move around
The problem is when you like both metal and jazz
Buy a guitar with active pickups for a wider range tone that can be better shaped to mimic both high and low output sounds. Additionally, consider buying an eight string to form chords with larger, more dissonant intervals. Also, listen to Animals as Leaders for their unique mixture of Progressive Metal and Jazz concepts.
I recently bought an Ibanez QX527PB and I found it plays both jazz style playing and metal vary well!
buy a really expensive orange amp and you’re set
Buy a Les Paul. Won't look out of place in either gig.
Les Paul all the way.
Don't get in a hurry. I was taught to "Court" a guitar by my father. Play it at least three times on three different days. Your mood etc will be different everytime. If it plays well for you each time, consider buying it.
Also, always try the hardest chord for you to make. If you nail it everytime, you just may have found what you need.
Don't let the salesmen put pressure on you. Be open and tell them your looking for your guitar and it may the a bit.
Impulse purchases can end up sitting in the case because it's really not the instrument for you.

It's all good. :)
I’d have to find a way to tell myself it’s going to take a bit first. The sales person won’t even be the actual problem 😂
There should be an active community thing that when looking for a guitar, the second date ( following this method) you bring a flower. If all goes well you hang the flower on the guitar and its hands off for other folks.
"the guitar chooses the player, mr Potter"

Get it in your hand and see how it feels to you.
This! And even if you have to order one make sure you can return it easily if it doesn’t feel right.
Definitely this. I thought a les Paul was right for me, but then I played one and it was so uncomfortable to play sitting down. Then I picked up an SG, and it’s still one of the best feeling guitars I’ve played.
@@bruhmingo I have an Epiphone SG, and I honestly think it helps me play better - *love* the SG!
This is an outdated idea 💡

Ayye the James hetfield special
The most important aspect of buying any guitar is to always play it without an amp in the store. If it sounds bad dry, it’ll never sound great amplified and processed. Feel everything including the weight, balance, and how solid everything feels. This is how I ended up buying an American strat from 2002 despite it not being my style or preference at all. Still one of my best ever purchases.
Thanks
Me: is it, is it cheap?
Cashier: how cheap?
Me: cheap as dirt.
Cashier: yeah..?
Me: Perfect! Dream guitar found.
I was always a Tele guy for decades until I got a knock off stratocaster just for fun. Now I'm building a beautiful strat and I'll never go back.
Me a left handed person looking at my wallet: “I’m sorry little one”
4. Don't forget that if you put in the work, you can use whatever guitar you want. For the most part, it will not affect your sound, you just gotta know what you're doing.
I'm a new guitar player and I understood a solid maybe 10% of the guitar lingo in this video
Play the guitar see how the neck feels. I bought (online) an epiphone les paul standard it eas a beautiful guitar, and i really struggled. After i visited a guitar shop realised i play better with the ibanez as the wizzard neck is a better fit for me.
I went from a nice gretsch to the jem jr. Those wizard 3 necks will make going to any other guitar a task xD. I found a schecter with sustainiac and it’s got a slightly close neck. Love both but the schecter sounds 100% better in every way other than no cool whammy flutters
I bought a butterscotch cream telecaster last month along with a fender blues jr. Been having a lot of fun
Good choices, Yossi!
Hey! Thanks for this video! I have a lot of people telling me I shouldn’t buy an expensive guitar because I am a beginner! I just bought a Schecter banshee gt fr, I know I may be a beginner, but I won’t be one forever!
Exactly. Most people buy their kids really cheap beginner guitars that are horrible sounding & hard to play & they quit playing because of that.
My first electric guitar cost me $650 in the early 80s, and I'm still playing today. Do whatever you want. It's your money and your life. Don't allow anyone to live your life. Listen to others but decide for YOU. ✌️
Don't only look at popular brands. Lit of every guitar I've played, the best has to be my Teisco Spectrum 4.
i would get the guitar i like but my wallet hides when i look at the price😂
Though i own and love a Les Paul, Ibanez Icemans have always felt like an extension of my character and so much easier to play in regards to weight, but i also fancy Casinos
I like he says start with your heart
The guitar that made me want to seriously learn wasn’t available when i was a kid and it’s not like it’s a Stratocaster or a les paul where i can find some variations on them. As a Queen fan, brian may’s red special was what i envisioned a guitar ought to be. I have since bought my own and even though i also have les Pauls and strats and teles, the red special will always be the one that got me into playing guitar and thus my favorite guitar.
I love that 😭 I really got into playing thanks to Mick Ronson (early David Bowie guitarist) and I’ve always wanted to have a blonde Les Paul to be like his, they’re so pretty
When people call me crazy for buying another guitar when “I already have one” is the most annoying shit Istg
The LP and SGs speak to my soul
yesssss
If you have smaller hands and wanna play metal and bass, go for an ibanez 5 string. I learned that way lol.. worked for me
I love the blue fading into black 🤭
i have the gibson les paul standard and to be honest, i never regret getting it
"Lap steel country on a BC Rich" 😂 u know... I can almost imagine that 🤣
Although not my favorite aesthetically, it’s hard to beat the versatility of an HSS strat
I think HH with coil splits is a better option, but each to his own.
@@castleanthrax1833 for me, split hum doesn’t really give that spank of middle and neck singles on a strat.
Seeing so many guitars is like Christmas 😊
Very concise informative, and to the point!!!!! Very good video!!!
Tbh the wiggles is what got me into guitar when I was a kid
Cool
Need to get a Maton then, but sadly they're not making alot of electrics these days! Mainly acoustics. Great guitars though.
that's fuckin awesome dude
It's always a journey. I started with single cuts, went over to SGs and Power Strats, and ended with Flying Vs, MLs and still SGs.
My dream guitar is the ESP LTD Stef Carpenter SC-608 Baritone Electric Guitar Red Sparkle like it’s such a beauty and I’m a huge fan of deftones
Always try the guitars first. It won't affect tone but the feel of a guitar is very important to the player.
Im a gretch hollowbody fan but fell for an ibanez artcore. Man, they're so great for a 400 dollar guitar
FRETS. Make sure the frets are perfectly smooth. I cannot tell you how many times I have picked up a premium brand guitar (looking at you Fender and Gibson) and the frets felt terrible when I did bends and vibrato. If the frets are rough, don’t buy it and inform the staff - not their fault but they can pass the info to the manufacturer.
I honestly think an hss setup is the best option
You're sacrificing the "thick jazz cleans" of a neck humbucker, but I can agree. If nothing else it's nice to be more slightly more predictable with what each switch position is gonna do (even if HSH _usually_ does what you'd expect)
just buy an HSH that has a coil split in the neck best of both worlds
@@braedonmorrissey7548 I totally forgot about coil split! That's a good idea too
@@braedonmorrissey7548 I'd recommend a series/parallel option over a coilsplit, doesn't lose the volume and sounds better to my ears! :)
@@metallsnubben That's what the tone control/eq pedal are for
I started off with a blueburst Epiphone Les Paul standard with coil tapping. Beautiful guitar, I still use it today. However, it's the reason why i had no idea how to use a whammy since recently.
Bring A LOT of money, I remember being a kid and I had saved about $80 I was dead set on buying a Gibson les Paul , that was almost 35 years ago and I still can’t afford one
My Favourite guitar is Gibson Les Paul Classic 👽
Make sure that the neck not only fits your hand, but does so without cramping up.
That pink PRS is literally mine 🥺
My uncle was my inspo bro I used to sit in his room and watch him play along to 2000s metal songs way back in like 2009
The SG looks great bur it's actually massive.
Also your guitar really doesn't matter, you can change out your pickups and strings but by far the biggest impact on the tone is your amplification, FX, and speakers. So just get something that looks cool to you and is comfortable to hold and play.
The SG always small to me lol
@@yeetusmcjesus1596 I have a 335 solidbody waayy bigger than an SG.
Slash was my inspiration
I’m old. Ok not that old, I’m 40. But Slash and Jimmy Page made me want to play. Naturally, I’m a huge Les Paul fan. I have 3 of them. ‘57 Classic pickups are the best. Then one day, I got a Telecaster, and everything changed. If you want 1 guitar, get a telecaster. If you want 2, get a Les Paul.
Obviously the physicality of the instrument is important as well. Check the weight and comfort in both a seated and standing position. If it's not comfortable, are you going to play it often?
Dude I really want a goldfoil jazzmaster
Fender telecaster American pro 2, and PRS se 24 custom. My faves
Be sure to change your car’s engine oil every 5-7 thousand miles
Nice tip to be a roadie.
1. The feel of the neck: the curve of the back of the neck, the fretboard radius.
2. String action. How straight is the neck?
3. The body. Is it not too heavy. Is the body comfortable? e.g. does it have contours like a Stratocaster or Jazzmaster, etc.
The sound, price, and looks of a guitar are important, but you should also pay attention to the ergonomics of playing guitar. Especially if you are going to practice or play for extended periods of time.
My dream guitar is the Miami Blue Strat! I hope to be able to buy it soon!
To me it was easy… as a Mark Tremonti’s Fan I went straight to a PRS SE Tremonti Signature and I’m loving it!
If you like AC/DC you might also like the Gretsch Jet
It was about two years ago now when I bought my Gretsch. And now I am a metal head 😅
My heart said Dave Mustaine Gibson, my wallet said fockoff
Well that’s good, the Dave mustaine V is a scam
@@bigbo1764 How is it a scam?
@@satishdass7460 you are overpaying for a guitar, the Dave mustaine V is maybe worth $1k retail. I own the silver one and I was sorely disappointed with what I received, it feels like the guitar had potential but it’s held back by Gibson’s quirks and habit of charging $1500 more for a guitar than they should. If you want a high quality Flying V-style guitar, I’d probably get a Schecter sls elite(has the traditional Flying V shape with modern metal specs) or I’d get an LTD arrow(more like a Rhoads, but definitely the best V-shaped guitar I’ve ever played).
@@bigbo1764 I tried it for the first time yesterday, and you're right it doesn't feel worth the 5k Australian dollars. It's a great guitar though, lightweight, great sound and easy playability. It will hold its worth as well for a while. I wouldn't mind paying for it though as I've always wanted a mustaine signature. I know for sure though that the e2, ltd and schecter are far superior built (I own a few ltds and schecters) as they remain unscathed no matter how much they get used. But the Mustaine guitar is inspiring, just disappointed that they would not focus on quality (the knobs and switch felt cheap).
So you go for the Epiphone and swap the pickups I did and guys tell me it's a killer playing axe and it's a deluxe Les Paul in black with double cream binding with gold pickups n bridge and tuners it beautiful and all for 400 ya gota look hard and a long time
Here’s my advice.
It doesn’t matter how it sounds or what pickups it has or nothing. If you grab a guitar and you can afford it and you sit down, plug it in and strum it a bit and you think “I like this and I want this” then you buy it.
Started with a tele, then a les Paul HH, a strat, an SG with T style humbuckers… then a p90 LP jr and now I’m getting into 80s rock so I got a Kramer. Just catch them all like Pokémon’s 😂😂
If you want a guitar that can do it all, a bc rich legacy of either a mockingbird or a rich "B". They have 2 humbuckers with a coil split switch for each of them and a phase switcher. They also have a 5 way varitone which is like having 2 tone dials for the same pickup (it gives more options). It has all the general stuff like pickup selector, 2 volume, 1 tone, 24 frets. You can get either of these in either hard tail or floyd rose and for the rich "B" you can get it in double neck with a 12 string. If you don't mind having a funny shaped guitar that will be a nightmare to get a case for, you can get a guitar that can do most things
I have a late 1980s Charvel Model 3 that I've owned from new. It has a Jackson Ultra High Output Ceramic Humbucker in the Bridge position, and it did have two Jackson Vintage Single coils in the neck and middle positions. I replaced the single coils with two Seymore Duncan Hot Rails, installed three toggle switches to split each of the pick-up's individually, designed, built and installed a pre-amp and a push / pull volume pot to give me the active electronics option and my 35 year old Charvel which I loved anyhow has blossomed into my favourite guitar, of which I have quite a few. She can do the 80s high gain hair metal that she was designed for, but now she can put on her Stratocaster dress and turn on that 3 single coil charm and clarity. 🥰🥰🥰🥰
another point....is if a guitar is gonna cost you an arm and a leg. hard to play any guitar with one hand.....
Currently saving for jason becker numbers guitsr from kiesel.
ESP LTD M1000HT. Hard tail being low makes for easy trem picking for me, I change tunings to much so Floyd roses are just to much of a pain and I already have an ltd ec 1000 matte black with gold hardware and emgs that sounds great all around.
The 2022 m1000ht is probably the most beautiful guitar I've ever seen. The finish looks stunning.
My dad bought a guitar in the 90s that is mine today. I have never been able to find any guitar that I love more. No other guitar gives me the same feeling
I first one when he slides the camera is the one i have its a les paul epiphone
1. Does it feel good?
2. Does it stay in tune?
3. Do you want a humbucker, single coil or both?
Feel > looks
I'm stuck between a CV mustang and an RG8. My music taste is all over the place.
My next one? Same rack as last time, take me to PRS room
Linkin parks Brad Delson got me into playing, then there was Dimebag, and then Zak Wylde, then some Steve Vai, then SRV, Jeff Beck, Paul Gilbert, the list goes on lol
Solid body gretcshes can be pretty solid guitars for metal especially the baritones. One of Kurt Ballou's main custom guitars is pretty much a solid body double jet with no curved top, a hardtail bridge and no neck pickup.
Whatever inspires you and makes you wanna play and makes you happy, that’s the one. If it breaks the rules, it’s still the one. Geordie Walker is my favorite example. The dude is playing industrial metal on a 1950’s Gibson jazz hollow body with p90’s. But guess what, nobody sounds like him and it’s awesome.
Ibanez RG. The coolest shape by an absolute mile. Aggressive yet refined.
The Mark Holcomb SE PRS is mine
I want a hollow body guitar they sound so cool
My favourite guitar is a Gretch Firebird
I’m on both Sg and Lp so if I had to choose I’d choose…
BOTH!!
Buy one of each!
I love the Gretch semi hollow👌
Ibanez all the way. 24 frets. And my main axe for 15 years now. The RG120
Remember that modding is a thing
I have a TeleCaster with a split humbucker bridge pickup and an evertune bridge.
Started on a Strat, I thought febder was my thing, I bought a Les Paul recently, MY WHOLE WORLD HAS CHANGED…only took me 7 years of playing to realize.
I got a almost new telecaster player series ( still had the plastic on the pick guard ) and Laney cup 12 amp for $550 from a guy I work with. I like blues and rock so it is a solid combo for that.
My recommendation: Test. Test. Test. You should take hours to test out all sorts of guitars, maybe over several days. You're going to spend money on something you might be using for a decade or longer. Also, bring your equipment, if a certain sound is important to you (lets face it, most guitars these days above the "beginner" models, do sound good, but are subjective and only the decision between single coil, humbucker, or active should be some serious part of it), so you can test the guitars on the actual amp you are going to play it on. Often I see stores having some full tube amps set up, but if you never play those, that is going to extremely change the experience you have in the store, to your bedroom.
Can't go wrong with a prs
Unless it's a silver sky
Neck shape and finish, I personally like a c shape Ibanez style with a smooth satin finish. Anyone else?
I started playing back in the late 70s early 80s- no internet, no MTV, and if you lived out in some rural part of the country like me- no other guitarists to learn from. My family all played music, but they all played acoustic instruments- blue grass and country. I wanted to play blues and rock, electric guitar- and none of them could help me with that. So- I literally just had to start going to the 1 local shop we had and trying stuff- and of course I was too embarrassed and intimidated to really do that s... Long story short- I played for years before I even knew there were different pickups and what kind of guitars were typically used for what style of music, etc. My advice to ppl would be watch as much UA-cam vids as you can- learn as much as you can about the different kinds of pickups and guitars- then buy something. Hate to sound like an old man but you guys have it whooped now- no matter what gear you're interested in, there's a video about it.
When you like Primus
Drop 16 Grand on a Bass
for those of you looking for a good beginning guitar check out the ibanez gios they are immaculate and cheap
I've got six guitars . But just realised I need an Ibanez S series and a 12 string acoustic or the world might end .
I need that makes me motivated while sitting on a white chair
As a lefty, I use a simple choice methodology at a guitar shop: I flip a coin to choose the red one or the blue one. 😅
As a lefty.myself I looked at the selection and then the prices and forced myself to learn to play right handed :p
I will take one of each please. 😂
Know what your budget is. Only spend what you can afford. You can save money buying a used instrument.
If you have the cash then always go for a custom I recommend getting a super cheap guitar at first and then seeing if you actually like it and then if you do then a custom is the best way to go
As a classic brand(s) family, we call the American made PRS " the Chameleon " because it somehow sounds good playing classic rock to Skynyrd to Buckethead to Dream Theater to the Cars without changing the settings...like it just auto-fits.
74 SG w P90s is preferred , tho
Randy Rhoads 🤘🤘❤️❤️
