    Hand taming ring neck doves is simple it just takes
    patience. With time your doves will enjoy spending time
    out of the cage with you. Start slow and offer your bird it's
    favorite treat and always move real slow and fluid.

    This is really encouraging.
    I got a dove about 2 weeks ago and I'd heard that if they aren't hand raised, they'll never be affectionate or that tame. But seeing how she's already become as tame as your female within 2 weeks, I have some hope now.
    I notice your other 2 doves don't fly out of the cage....mine flies right out to walk around the room :/ if only they could be potty trained lol

      That's not true. It just takes a little longer to build the trust if you buy an older bird. Just keep working with the bird and let it out of the cage as much as you can. Mine love shredded cheese so you may want expirement with treats until you really find something your bird likes. Then hold back on the food until the bird is hungry and then work with it with treats. I have 100% faith that your bird will turn out great. Just keep building that trust. Thanks for comment.

    I noticed you're in Brooklyn Park MN as me. Do know anyone in the Cities that sells Diamond Doves? Been looking locally and nothing.

    I have a diamond dove. I've had her for about 3 years, and she had a mate but he died a year ago. She's never really been social... I have been taking her out, but she still seems kinda timid and won't let me touch her IN her cage, but she sits on me OUT of her cage. Any tips on how I can get her more social/bonding tips? Thanks

    What do you like to use for treats? We just had a young ringneck show up in our yard a month ago that we've kept and we haven't found any particular treats she likes yet, thanks

      Mine love shredded cheddar cheese. I would try that. Give it a few pieces to try in your hand and if it likes it you can use it to get the bird back in the cage or tricks. That's about the only thing they loved. Thanks for the comment.

    Where did you get the cage. Or how did you make it. I have a wire cage and it chops up my doves feathers. I love the design of your cage

      I made the cage out of scrap lumber. Basically made a box with 2 by 2's and then covered it with 1/4 plywood and 1/4 screen mesh. I live in Minnesota and keep my birds outside for 6-7 months out of the year. You can see the avairy in my breeding ringneck dove videos. I'm sorry I don't have any actual plans for you. Thanks for your comment.

    How do you tell the male from female?

    • @DaveSherva
      @DaveSherva  10 років тому +3

      You need to watch the birds behavior. The males will bow and coo a lot and make a noise like they are laughing at you. My male usually starts the nest building process as well. You can also look at their feet and the males generally have more purple feet and the females are more pink. Lastly only females lay eggs. I hope that helps.

      Dave Sherva It does help. I was getting confused by the male cooing but also building the nest. Thanks

    Did you have to hand feed your baby dove or did the adults feed it? is there an alternative feeding you know of?

    • @DaveSherva
      @DaveSherva  10 років тому

      These two are great parents and split the job 50/50. I use foster pigeons with my homing pigeons but it may work if you had more then one pair of doves. Otherwise it would be a 24/7 job for you. You would raise it like a wild baby bird. With doves you let the parents do the work. Your job is to keep them fed and watered. Do you have a baby dove ?

      i do and i believe the parents are neglecting it because this is the third baby they had and the first two died and im not sure if they have the right food to feed the child but they dont want to keep the young warm or feed it so im not sure what to do.

      Kayla Martinez Next time they lay eggs I would toss them. Give them a break. I would not keeping breeding and letting the babies starve. It's just to time consuming and difficult to hand feed babies.

      They do lay eggs without a male. You can find ringneck doves on Craigslist for around $15-$20 a piece.

      I don't know anyone with Diamond doves but a friend of mine does raise Senegal doves or (laughing doves) if your familiar with that breed. He is in Golden Valley.

    • @nusdogg
      @nusdogg 8 років тому

      Dave Sherva Yes I am. There's also a small shop call Paws or whatever in North Town mall which I'm sure you've been there and they do sell those diamond doves. But they're 150.00/pair which is quite expensive. And petsmart sells them for 40.00 each but I can't find any that carries them in stock.
      Does he or she breed those laughing doves to sell for the public?

    • @DaveSherva
      @DaveSherva  8 років тому +1

      I'll ask him if he has any for sale. He asked me a couple of months ago if I was interested. I'll let you know what he has and the cost. I'll ask if he has any Diamond doves as well.
