They are definitely more expensive for smaller beekeepers because of package size and cost. In our store smaller 50 dose packages are $67.50 and 100 dose is $112.75 which is around $1.13 per dose. It is recommended to treat colonies once a month during the active season which is sort of what we've been doing since early summer which so far has been 6 doses. Do I think it's been worth it? Absolutely. Would I pay $10.00 a year to treat each colony? Yes. I think the overall benefit that I have seen this year is worth it. We now have a lower incidence of EFB without the use of antibiotics and the general look of our outfit is better. I'm fully aware that there are some that disagree with my opinion on probiotics and that is something which other beekeepers should consider before moving ahead with it.
@@bobbinnie9872 I think I'm onboard for next Summer, for their benefit! The Canadian swears too! And that price IS absorb-able if they're production goes up even a 1Lb. jars worth. ALWAYS such good info!!!

Hello Bob, you mentioned about Queen loss from Formic Pro treatment, is that a common occurrence and can it be overcome? Asking from Australia. Best wishes for your 70th birthday. Regards Lachlan
Happy birthday Mr. Bob, best wishes for health, happiness and prosperity. I am a new beekeeper from Bulgaria, Europe. Could you explain why are you givivg probiotic to the bees? Thank you very much.
Well its Nov 24th we in central Sask have had an abnormally warm Nov it was -4F a couple nights in the last week and its supposed to be around 32F- 0C this weekend I drizzled the girls 2 weeks ago when it was +5 c- 41F ish they looked nice and happy in their R20 wraps . 4.5 months until the grass is green 🎉.
Hey Bob, I watch your videos from the UK and find them extremely helpful although somethings have to be adapted to UK weather and practises, oh and hope you had a good birthday! Can you advise what probiotics you supplement with please as it's not something that appears that common on this side of the pond. Cheers buddy and keep up the great work!
@bobbinnie9872 I have some hives that don't have enough capped honey. Would it make sense to load frames of drawn comb with syrup and then place directly in the hive? My thought was to load the frames with syrup and try to roll on a thin layer of wax over the syrup loaded cells and then place the frames either to the side or over the brood nest. My thinking is that this might allow them to access the food when the temperatures keep them clustered and put my bucket feeders out of reach?
Years ago the practice of loading frames with syrup was not unheard of. The Walter T. Kelly bee supply company actually manufactured and sold a pump and spray device that loaded frames easily. It was in his catalog for years. I never used one but if I did it in cold weather I would try to use very thick syrup, which may have to be warm to handle, and load only a few combs at a time as needed and not an entire box. I don't believe I would apply wax because unless the syrup was extremely thick it may ferment under the wax. In warm weather you could do more because the bees could work it up. Again, I've never done this, so this is just my thoughts. Good luck.
Good evening Mr. Bob ... Happy New Year. We wish you good health and peace.. Question: What is the white powder that you put on the tires after the inspection????
Happy birthday Bob !! I wish you many more… you are a wealth of knowledge and have helped me keep my bees alive….. I owe it all to you! Hope you live to be 110

In the great white north, they will not take any syrup due to low temperatures. They gotta hold out until spring. I have scales on some hives and they actually eat surprisingly very little until about mid February which is about when they startup. Any colonies that are at risk of starvation before March - your only option is fondant cakes or straight sugar on a plastic sheet under the cover. Hope that helps!
I use a modified grease gun to inject honey right into the hive. @ at over $400 a hive to buy a new single super it is well worth it. @@billybobbarker3175

Hey Bob, happy birthday, I am seeing a very similar situation here too, warmer than usual in october and some colonies stopped laying only this week, so they got less food than usual and some must be feeded if we want them to survive. Finishing the oxalic acid treatments next week and not opening them anymore till february. Wish you a good winter!
Hey Bob, can i move my hives with a distance of 350km, now in end-november? I am living in Germany and right now we got 2°C. I think it's too cold to move them, but do you have any experience or advise on that? Greetings
Happy Belated Birthday! So much experience past, present and future to celebrate!!!! Leaf raking has had me busy for 3 days and I am feeling it tho a decade younger than you! Been warm here too! And hive resources are in the back of my mind. Planning on adding a post boitic that among other ingredients contains soapbark to my mid winter feeding in hopes to combat early spring enteritis. Another winter is on us soon enough.
Happy Birthday Bob!!!! You're almost middle aged!!! 😆 Same situation here in the eastern foothills of NC. Warms temps and bees burning through lots of stores. I have good weight and Hive Alive patties on all my hives. Afraid folks are going to have a lot of dead bees in late Winter if they don't stay on top of their feed situation!!!! Great video and see you soon in Louisville!!!
Happy birthday Bob. Those singles are about what mine looking like, I wish mine had put up more food. Mine are light but good bees, put extra dry sugar on them a few days ago.

Bob, here in atlanta….I have one colony that’s a double deep plus a medium. Full of bees. I wanted to reduce the size but it is just chock full of bees. Leave them alone and overwinter at the big size? Incidentally, went up to Clayton the other day and stopped by your store. Was hoping to see you but it was a Saturday and you were probably resting or busy!
No particular reason to reduce them but I would guess they would be fine as a double deep. I'm usually around on Saturdays but have been out of town the last few speaking at meetings. Do ask if I'm there next time.
Bob, we're November babies. Happy birthday. Another nice episode. I have food on a couple of hives. I also have a hive on the inside door of the storage trailer that the farm allows me to use. I don't know if it will make it, but it sure did make a big colony. I'm watching it over winter to see how it does.
What is an ideal frame arrangement for a double deep in the Chattanooga area for winter? Should I leave it as the bees have worked it or rearrange some frames?

Hello from Houston TX. I have been considering placing weak colony on top of 2 queen excluders and a medium and a strong colony. This way I could feed from the top and benefit from the joint heat. Any thoughts about this?
I would recommend a double screen board. We do several every winter that way. Check out our video "Overwintering Nucs on a Double Screen Board". ua-cam.com/video/EI281J1FrZI/v-deo.html

I’ve noticed that whenever I introduce apavar , my hives seem to have a higher probability of absconding. I feel that the aroma of the Apavar masks the queen pheromone. Are there any studies on that ?
Plan on adding fondant to them in February with pollen sub.at the same time with apivar before they brood up ..Fondant having inverted sugar better than the sucrose sugar bricks they need to convert. Europe feeds alot fondant. Fondant really getting stronger market here in the states. Happy birthday Bob thanks for all your great videos definitely one of the better channels.
YES, Happy Birthday! Now can we talk about the cost of those probiotics, and their hoped for results for the hobbyist Keeper?
