This was a very timely video as I was out on the river today as a grayling newbie. Because I saw this I took my indicator rod with me as well as Euro rod. Glad I did. I found the perfect medium glide and found two shoals of grayling on the indicator. All caught on your flies too! Thank you!
Andy fabulous vlog as always and a masterclass on indicator fishing for winter grayling, orange collar HE and the pink variant is a slayer this time of year😁 tight line m8
Another great vlog thank you Andy. I know it was tough but have really learnt so much from you over the last few years, since you first introduced Kelly and I into river fly fishing. It’s now my obsession and I still learn from every video you post.
@ Unfortunately not Andy. Going to Ireland in June for a trout and Salmon trip though! Can’t be more excited. Looking forward to more videos, love to see it.
Very timely Mr B, was hoping to get out for my 1st session of the year this weekend and was thinking I'd try the indicator. Never fished it, but everything is still new to me so I figured I might as well learn on the job. Again, great vid the effort you put in to making these is staggering really. 👏
Thanks so much, Stuart! With all the cold snow melt going through the systems this week, it'll be a great time for the indicator! Really appreciate the kind words bud, thank you!
Thanks for a super vid as always. If you're fishing at close distance with both this method and euronymphing, why is this method better for fish in colder deeper water? Because the indicator is more sensitive? Surely the nymphs sink equally fast using both methods?
Fascinating video, thanks. Obviously it was cold as the snow is still lingering about and you decided that the grayling would be in deeper, slower water because of the temperature; have you experimented taking the temperature of the water (assuming the temperature your side is the same as in the deeper runs) and correlating that with fish caught in deeper slower water vs faster shallower water? Sounds a bit sciencey but just wondered?
Hi. Live your channel. Thinking of starting my own. Pls let me know if you have advice. Just a few unedited clips to gauge reaction. Any help is appreciated. Thanks
At this time of the year there us no difference between fishing an indicator or a big bushy dry fly capable of supporting a couple of nymphs. Nice last fish Andy on a Chris Flay ' Natural Nymph '
I think the big difference is that the foam indicator doesn't need any maintenance - i was never going to catch on a big dry, certainly not a grayling! 👍👍
Indy nymphing is deadly in the dead of Winter.I prefer tightline nymphing to a yarn or booby cord indicator with a drop shot mono rig.I guess what the Americans call a bounce rig.Like your advice about not worrying about moving your flies mending.I hold back or lift off/back on with the indy throughout the drift.I find dead drift isn't aways the ticket.Adding movement to your flies below your indy can turn a slow day into a red letter day for me.
There's definitely a case for giving those flies a bit of a nudge every now and again, so many times over the years I've mage the mend, moved the flies, and got the take! Many thanks for tuning in! 👍👍
Just started fly fishing. Got no idea why anyone would think its float fishing. How is it any different fishing a dry dropper rig? I personally draw the line at euro nymphing which does absolutely nothing for me (personal choice).
I think one of the great things about fly fishing is that there are so many different ways to approach it, there's a whole world out there, and something for everybody. You'd be amazed at some of the comments we've had about indicator fishing over the years! 🙈😂
Love your posts. Just a thought ..you seem to be having slack line between the rod rings… doesn’t that make hooking fish when striking more difficult ?
Hi bud, thanks somuch! I know where you're coming from, but at these distances, no, I really don't think it does. One of the great advantages of the longer rod is that it's more effective at picking line up on the strike. If I was tight to the indicator, I'd be affecting the drift, so in this instance, I'm definitely not worried about a couple of feet of slack 👍👍
Andy was wondering why you didn’t use the Oros Indicator like you did on the previous video. Was there a particular reason why the indicator you used here was preferable?

Another video. You guys just on the water makes a great video. Not always the amount of fish you catch.
Thanks Andy! Just what we needed for a Tuesday evening.
Thanks so much, Alfie! Did you get out at the weekend?

Great video really enjoyed watching keep em coming
Great timing, am getting my gear ready for steelhead here in the states. Keep up the great content
I learned a lot from that video Andy. Thanks

I'm watching from Canada. Keep up the good work. Ignore the haters cause they dunno how to adapt and suck at fishing. 😂
Thanks for a super vid as always.

Really enjoyed that. Will you be at Staffordshire this year?
Hi Andy. Could I ask what you were using for the indicator please?
Lovely vid as always. When do you think would be the best time to get a guided day to try and learn euronymphing basics? Winter or summer?
Thanks so much! Great question, no time like the present, I say!
Drop me an email on andy@abangling.co.uk and we can discuss further 👍👍
hi in the UK all fishermen do 100% catch and release for pike perch zander?

I was interested in picking up a 10' 4wt. How do you think it does with dry flies?

You could put this end tackle on a float rod yet ive never heard of anyone trotting flies. I cant see that it would make any difference.
I've trotted flies, albeit whilst loose feeding maggots - v effective, and you don't have to work about your hook bait getting nicked/ruined 👍
wish i could fish on the rivers in the winter
You guys have some amazing waters during the summer. Man i miss Ireland!
@ we sure do the fishing also doesn’t disappoint
Andy, theres an idea for a video series later on the year: IB and Andy's Irish Road Trip
You know what, it is something we've talked about previously! 🤞
@@IBandAndyFishing if you are going to Ireland on a fishing trip, Kerry is a great place especially Killarney 😉
You've got high standards, I thought it was a decent session 😂
You know, when it watched it back, it wasn't as bad as i thought.
I'd had such a great day there a few days before, I'd at a very high bar
Monstrosity rig, Wicked video lol.
😂😂😂😂 Cheers bud!
