When I was stationed in the Philippines and Japan, I had bamboo bows and arrows made by craftsmen. I still use the bows to hunt for wild pigs here in Texas.
From personal experience, whenever I try to make a bow out of wood, it breaks and if I am able to make it, it dries out after a week and it breaks. That's why I prefer pvc tube, it's easier to make one. I never considered a bamboo, and I'm excited to try it out.... Great video 👍 I'm a complete noob at making bows, I started by myself 2-3 months ago. And for anyone who tries to make a bow for the first couple of times, don't worry if it doesn't workout, you'll get better at it. Good luck.
Choose the right wood Ash, black willow, elm and then maple make nice bows. I make it, least break. Once working never break. Do no over bend when wet.
The beauty of this hunting tool lays in the multitude of its usage. You can use the arrow for range or for close up hunting...the bow's string for certain things, and the rest as well... Quite a tool.
There is so much talent under the surface here. I’ll bet if you gave 20 people the assignment of making this bow with the same materials and tools only one would come close.

It is Dec 13th and I had a notification on newest video you made an I watched it an give it a thumbs up. Then I watched another cool looking slingshot. Then on bows, and I think I'm on number 18 or 19 video now. Yes I'm binge watching these because using tools from years ago and these hand tools are what built the structures and even more tools we needed to build with. But I'll admit one thing, an I think about it each an every time I see you cutting wood using a hand saw, I'd be using my band saw to cut that. I could put the fence on it an cut perfectly straight lines on the wood or remove the fence and cut curves. If I had to I'd use a jig saw to make cuts on a long piece that needed curves at. Seems we all have tools today that in my opinion only made us lazy but we did lose the tradition of wood working, the feeling I had when I was a young man 50 years ago working with wood and feeling these grain of the wood on my fingertips. Seems the only way we can get same type of feelings are to go into the woods and get our own wood. Dead fallen over trees and we use those. Leave the green standing timber an let it live on. We are only here for a short time, but the trees can live for several hundred years so please do not shorten their lives. Humans act like murderers and killers of everything an even dumping waste on the very soil we need to survive with. But people don't realize that. Dining waste, any an all will eventually seep I to our drinking water just like in Maryland or Flint County, where ever that happened. People can not drink tap water. There are many towns like that in our country here in USA, and in every country around the world. I think it's totally stupid to dump poisonous liquid chemicals into our oceans. That so damn stupid an every person who done that should have to drink a cup full. We must take care of mother earth if we love wood working because the trees make the very air we must have to live. An we only should take the trees that fell over dead or from bad storms that blew them over. Never cut down a healthy tree and if you do, plant 10 in it's place. If you take a life, give back 10 fold to pay for your sin. Just like going to confession at a Catholic church, he will tell you to say 10 hail Marys and something else but it's always 10 fold.
Today I learned that the closer to the roots the section of the bamboo tree is the thinner the hallow is. I always thought bamboo was uniformly hallow from bottom to top. But, it makes sense for the bottom to be more dense than the top.

This took me down the memory lane. I used to make bows from Bamboo and arrows from Guava branches when I was a kid. Built my own tree house. 😍

Did you hunt with it?
A tool and weapon that has existed for nearly 60,000 years, and hopefully will continue for 60,000 more.

Still, bamboo is an amazing plant!
No doubt it is
It’s a grass not tree

it's very simple yet a very neat piece of art work. Brilliantly made.

Bamboo has a curing processor keep em from breaking. So do mostwood.
طششششژ ضئًژ
I recommend trying hardwood like locust ash or something easy to get, evergreens and softwoods will break on you
Choose the right wood
Ash, black willow, elm and then maple make nice bows. I make it, least break. Once working never break. Do no over bend when wet.
It breaks because: it isn't an appropriate wood or you don't incise it well i reccomend Oak or Ulmus for a good bow

pilih bambu tua dan pilih bagian dekat pangkalnya...
bambunya direndam air dulu kira kira 2 minggu > 1 bulan...

dilapasi bolak balik atau ditambahkan fiber ditengahnya di lem yang rapat...
.
bambu mudah didapat tapi ngolahnya ngga sembarangan...
salah dalam pengolahan, ngga sampai 1 bulan rusak...

Hi, amazing bow 🏹
Please can you tell me what kind of rope do you used in this work?
That bamboo is really thick
That is a very thick walled bamboo, that is the trick. What type, species, or name is it? Is it called trunk bamboo then?
It is called Sheel Borak bamboo locally. Other variety of Borak bamboo.
@@topcommenter9235 👍 I don't think it's available by me in usa :(
@@pattiannepascualIt’s okay, you can use hardwoods such as oak, or other woods such as hackberry and hedge.
We called it Bayog in local term in filipino.
Its called lauda bamboo
Perfect shoot

More power to you brother !! Just keep it up !!!
What happened to it after some time? Did it dry? Did you have to bend it a lot or just with the rope? Did you use some product to conserve it?
This is very cool
Thanks for watching my video ^.^
