Contrary to popular belief, The Land of Oz is a real place in the world of WoZ, it isn’t an apart of dream because Dorothy was isekaied into The Land of Oz. Dorothy thinking it was a dream was probably just the magic inside her trying to protect her psyche from realising what she actually experienced.
I always had a deep respect to Mr. House. He build this place, he defended it from atomic fire, he rebuilds it, he controls it. It is truly his grand work. A Beacon, A jewel in a desert. Not legion, those foolish Rome followers could keep it running, not NCR who wants to capture it for its own needs, Not a Yes-Man and the Courier, without any experience could run such complex place. Only Him. Thats why I side with him, and follow his, not orders, but tasks? As his right hand I’d do anything to keep Vegas running ;D especially when I can benefit the only “luxury” this desert saved from pre war times. That’s a dream scenario for a person who was born after atomic blast and was struggling to survive in the desert. And now, when you found your Home, you’ll do anything to protect it. Ha :D
I often feel similar, so I definitely don't totally disagree. There's just something about his attempt to transcend to in a god like figure while he holds that last bastion of hope to be concerning. He has too much leverage if he gets his way. Then do his true colors come out? He's probably the most powerful and capable Fallout figure if you do his ending to the fullest, and that's saying something.
I agree that it has many parallels with OZ and till you said it I didn't think of OZ once while playing. I don't know lit too well but I feel the hero journey has been tweaked to fit so many stories that it maybe the direct reference could have been some work that OZ had used when that book was written. To me it felt like a Greek myth were House sent you out to do a trial of hercules or the journey home of the odyssey specially when you try to cut straight north you are blown south on some grand quest(forget the deathclaws those damn cazadors were the organic fence)
Great idea there, I love Greek myth and those two stories especially so. I am sure their are parallels but there are some direct references in Fallout games to Oz, so I think some of what I mentioned is somewhat intentional. Here's a quote from the wiki on OWB: "In Old World Blues, Dr. Mobius refers to a group of murderers who were looking for a heart, a brain, and courage or a spine, which they had all along."

@@nvRanger I'm going to cut it straight with you bro, I haven't played the first two games in their entirety, but the writing I have seen is superior to anything that Bethesda came out with. New Vegas is Really a completely different game from fallout 3. I'm 45, and after having played both on PlayStation 3, and only on PlayStation 3, the contrast is stark. Todd Howard, and his hand-picked cronies at ZeniMax, is a pretender to the throne that former Interplay employees at Obsidian deserve to claim. They're Trash. If New Vegas had been given the time it needed, it would further cement its place in the franchise history. I sincerely appreciate the time and effort put into this excellent video. You deserve at least 10 times the subscribers you have. Meeting you have earned my subscription!
@@nvRanger Oh my bad, it's actually a video about Fallout 4 by Oxhorn, haha 😂 The title of the video is "How the Story of Fallout 4 Resembles The Wizard of Oz" Maybe The Wizard of Oz represents more things? 🤔
The author of the wizard of oz wrote it as a free Masonic allegory. Dorothy is representative of “The Fool” in Taro. Beginning on the journey of self enlightenment.
interesting, I don't know much about free mason ideas. Just about nothing to be honest, but I did see this is a common theory when looking it up. I'm going to read the Oz books at some point
I think you can decide which character they represent. I just chose th three that sit best in my head, but I think there are parallels between all of them. Veronica could be the Lion as she struggles to find the courage to stand up and make change in the BoS. Lily is the Scarecrow with her mind scrambled and deluded, despite being very capable. Cass is the Tin Man, rough hard exterior, acts like she doesn't care, but eventually she ends up wanting to take down the some of the most corrupt organizations in the NCR. Rex/Ed-e make me think of Toto, but Rex also needs a brain... Scarecrow
Caesar literally calls Mr House a wizard, I thought this was obvious to everyone. There's Wizard of Oz references in Fallout 2. So obviously someones a fan.
I don’t think it’s obvious to everyone. Very old movie many people understand the cultural references to but have not seen in a long time or ever. Most of my viewers are 18-35 y/o dudes, guessing there’s not the most musical lovers in that demo, especially musicals from 1939
psst... yo dawg... word to the wise... the old title and thumbnail were better. >w> I put this in my Watch Later when it still had the old title / thumbnail. That was what grabbed my attention. I actually got a little confused when I saw it was changed. I was like, "Is this the Wizard of Oz video?" I know you probably changed them for business reasons. But the old one was better. "A fantasy movie" is so vague. Specifically comparing it to the Wizard of Oz was a pretty strong hook. Idk why the algorithm didn't totally sweep you up immediately with a title like that. But I do think it was better. Maybe it just wasn't time yet.
I appreciate the input and I also like (the idea at least) of the original thumbnail more but since changing them the video has recovered in the more relevant metrics. I don’t want to change that. Might not be because of the title/thumbnail change but the timing aligns Not exactly a business decision, this video isn’t monetized, I just worked on it a while and want it to keep in a healthy direction. Sorry for the alterations *ps, I ended up changing the title back. thought about it more and agreed*
Once again I’d like to point out. NV is the same story as KoTOR II. Nothing more. Obsidian has been trying to tell it in every game they’ve made but came up short and had to rush production so they try again with each game to make the story make sense.
I have heard good things about KoTor 2 but that it also suffers from being unfinished and having a lot of cut content like New Vegas. I'll need to check it out, I haven't heard anyone say they are 1:1 games before.
@@nvRanger it's nearly a 1:1 The courier = the exile, darth sion = Ulysses, etc. Legion are the Sith being ominous and creeping into the Republic territory. And everything revolved around the player character, a la most RPGs, but almost the same way in KoTOR II.
Ulysses isn’t even the in the base New Vegas game though and New Vegas is not NCR territory, they’re in the process of annexation. They were fighting the BoS and made a pact with House (the current owner). Idk if the Republic is in the same situation
@@Chedring Who are you talking to? What am I coping with? You're on the video, upset. This is your coping with that, I am helping you through the process it seems.
Hmmm, but Oz is fantasy and New Vegas is a post post-apocalyptic sci-fi. They are much different than say, Blade Runner and Cyberpunk. I don’t get your point
I have read that Josh Sawyer says they don't but how tf do they not know about the NCR? The Legion? New Canaan? How is the courier delivering packages in NCR and not know who the NCR is without suffering from some level of amnesia? It's probably just up to the player to decide.
@nvRanger how does the character remember the singer from reno, his kid in another state, his package delivery escapades from the divide, his time running in the big circle, and other facts about the NCR such as who president Tandi is?
I don’t know, neither of us can explain these rhetorical questions because there are holes in either direction. It is up to the player to choose that dialogue, but the Courier has all those dialogue options you mentioned but you can also ask “who is the NCR?” It’s meant to be flexible, not make perfect linear sense.
@nvRanger The metacontextual reason is that the devs had to write dialogue for new players. Saying the Courier has amnesia is like choosing a cannon ending. It's a possibility if the player chooses so, but there's no real way of proving anything since there's stuff that contradicts everything.
I can hardly believe I’m doing this again, but all of us devoted Family Guy fans here at the refugee camp have come together, pooling 969,450,459 Ethereum at the camp’s crypto bank. This is our way of holding onto a sliver of hope-a hope to one day witness Peter’s beautiful smile once more.

Awesome, love that you did a pre watch prediction. Spot on with Boone and I like where your head is at for Veronica. I’ve heard others go in a similar direction.
I came back to this video
mostly because I watched Dune 2 and realized a lot of parallels between the plots of Dune and Half Life 2
fascinating, I haven't played Half Life unfortunately and I have only seen Dune 1 and read a bit of the book. Surprising to hear there are parallels
Why does Arcade look like that 😭 @2:45
You think that looks worse than the base game 😱?
It seems so obvious when you say it like that… Subbed.
glad i got the message across, thanks
@@nvRanger I love it when a video essay makes something so clear right up top and the rest is just gravy. Really great job.
Everything parallels the wizard of oz.
Hmmm 🧐
This video blew my mind it really is inspired by Oz!!
Another reason Vegas is the best game ❤
Awesome to read, glad it landed 🙏
Very good intro
glad you liked it, thanks
New Vegas is so solid in every regard that the fallout franchise has no right to claim it. It's that good.
Man I want this series back on track asap. So disappointed in its state rn. Honestly, I think games like 76 shouldn’t be claiming Fallout
I have been playing fallout NV a long time but never thought or saw the game in this way i think im might sub 🤔
cool to hear, hope you enjoyed the video
@@nvRanger I did
You should have made this video on Outerworlds my dude.
No surprise obsidian did this twice.
i dont like outerworlds as much as nv and I dont know it as well either. I played it once or twice through, recall being disappointed
Well done. New Sub.
Greatly appreciated 🙏
Famtastic video!!
thanks for saying!
The house always wins
unless the mailman is busy
I always play caravan with ringo 8:15
Don’t you lie !
You're lying.
The NCR is spineless, the legion is heartless, and yes man is brainless. And house is skinless because after 200 years he really needs some lotion.
The comparisons are truly endless 🧴
Fantastic
Thank you 🙏
The second video about FNV and Wizard of Oz lol
WHERES THE FIRST?!
@@nvRanger Oh my bad, it's actually a video about Fallout 4 by Oxhorn, haha 😂
The title of the video is "How the Story of Fallout 4 Resembles The Wizard of Oz"
Maybe The Wizard of Oz represents more things? 🤔
Oh I mentioned that video at the end of this one
The author of the wizard of oz wrote it as a free Masonic allegory. Dorothy is representative of “The Fool” in Taro. Beginning on the journey of self enlightenment.
interesting, I don't know much about free mason ideas. Just about nothing to be honest, but I did see this is a common theory when looking it up. I'm going to read the Oz books at some point
Could we get a mod list? I really like how your game appears 😊
hopefully include one in the next video description

This was great. I'd love to see Josh Sawyer react to this video

Hm, what about Cass, Lily, Veronica and Rex?
I think you can decide which character they represent. I just chose th three that sit best in my head, but I think there are parallels between all of them.
Veronica could be the Lion as she struggles to find the courage to stand up and make change in the BoS.
Lily is the Scarecrow with her mind scrambled and deluded, despite being very capable.
Cass is the Tin Man, rough hard exterior, acts like she doesn't care, but eventually she ends up wanting to take down the some of the most corrupt organizations in the NCR.
Rex/Ed-e make me think of Toto, but Rex also needs a brain... Scarecrow
Also premium rush
I've never seen that movie. Its similar to New Vegas?
What is the modlist? Good video.
Thanks, don’t have a mod list currently but I’ve covered a lot of them in recent videos, links in descriptions.

Secretly?
well its not a wizard of oz game, I know you're IQ is higher than the views on this video. Sorry for insulting your intelligence
@nvRanger bro, it's just a joke, calm down
Here I was, enjoying the video for a minute...

Is Yes Man the good witch?
That’s a hard one. Maybe Sunny Smiles or Doc Mitch
What mods are you running?
Quite a bit, recent videos have covered many. New Vegas Reloaded, WAP, and Desert Natural Weathers are a few big ones
I was like, "Is this the Wizard of Oz video?"
I know you probably changed them for business reasons.
Might not be because of the title/thumbnail change but the timing aligns
Not exactly a business decision, this video isn’t monetized, I just worked on it a while and want it to keep in a healthy direction. Sorry for the alterations
*ps, I ended up changing the title back. thought about it more and agreed*

@@nvRanger the base game is incomplete without the DLC and patches so...
Is it really a secret when it was blatantly obvious and the devs confirmed it not even a year after the game dropped?
I guess it was no secret to you Holmes 🕵️
@@nvRanger really living in a pandemic of white guys making endless video essays...
@@Chedring the algorithm feeds you what you watch, donkey.
Beg for more attention, help me up this vids engagement more. Lord knows it needs the help.
@@nvRanger Sounds like cope on your part. Limp and sad. lmao.
@@Chedring Who are you talking to? What am I coping with? You're on the video, upset. This is your coping with that, I am helping you through the process it seems.
way too surface level of a connection, its like comparing literally any sci fi movie to a sci fi video game
Hmmm, but Oz is fantasy and New Vegas is a post post-apocalyptic sci-fi. They are much different than say, Blade Runner and Cyberpunk.
I don’t get your point
Mod list 😁?
Soon hopefully 🤞

I LOVE FNV
ME TOO
4 and NV both do.
4 sure 👍
The Courier doesn't have amnesia.
Stop perpetuating such LIES.
It is up to the player to choose that dialogue, but the Courier has all those dialogue options you mentioned but you can also ask “who is the NCR?”
It’s meant to be flexible, not make perfect linear sense.
@nvRanger The metacontextual reason is that the devs had to write dialogue for new players. Saying the Courier has amnesia is like choosing a cannon ending. It's a possibility if the player chooses so, but there's no real way of proving anything since there's stuff that contradicts everything.
@@nvRanger Besides that. Fantastic video.
You've got a real knack for storytelling.
