  • I collect old Elvis Presley vinyl. I don’t spend a lot of money on them, and I don’t care how beat-up they are. I just like ‘em, baby.

    Your so lucky living in the same sort of area that elvis did. I've only been to America once back in 2000 when the kids were young and we took em to Florida Disney. Those video discs are really nice and i hope daisy is getting plenty of rest.
    Luv the show.

      Hey Mark ! I agree, it's pretty cool to be able to drive to places where Elvis wrote his story. Daisy is rested up, and ready to go ! Cheers !

    Oh Christian, you will think I am mad, but I was tearful when you were sitting at that piano. From across the world, I could feel those vibes. Thank you so much for the tour of the hotel and showing us those photos of our young Elvis.❤❤😢😢
    The video discs are fantastic, what treasures! I had heard of them but never seen any. I have got laser discs but now I am going to look for video discs at record fairs! There must be some out there, even in Australia 😂

      Hey Patracat! No, I don’t think you’re mad, because I felt something too.
      Definitely hunt for Elvis video discs. They look really cool, but they are heavy!

    Hi Christian, not sure there has ever been an official release on DVD. There were various unofficial video releases and the 'Crown Electric' label released a DVD sourced from a CBS video tape a few years back. The DVD featured the complete concerts from Omaha and Rapid City in June 1977. It also included some backstage footage along with the US version of the CBS TV special. It sounds as though the machine that played the Laser Discs must have been quite a serious piece of equipment to cope with the weight..The Albert Wertheimer book 'Elvis '56 and June Jaunico's 'Twilight of My Memory' are fantastic. If you would like a copy, I'd be happy to post June's book to you, (I've added my email address in the comments of 'Paralyzed' on my page). Steve

      Thanks for the info on the CBS concert. You know, I've seen clips, but never watched the entire show. It just seems too sad.
      Cheers !

    Great video and Elvis piano experience!!! My family had a Videodisc player when I was a kid. Inside the cover is a disc which the player grabs and holds while you pull the empty cover back out. Due to memory limitations of the format, about half the movie is on the top side of the disc and half on the flip side, which you manually flip by inserting the cover, the player releases the disc inside the cover, you pull it all back out, then repeat the whole process and watch side 2. The systems worked basically like a record player and were notorious for skipping, so the manufacturer encouraged you to "clean" the internal disc by pushing and pulling the cover partway in and out of the player when it held the disc. About 10 swipes in and out and you would get just one or two skips, but you could never got a good solid no skip playthrough.

      Hey MS ! Thanks for the video disc info. You answered a few of my questions. I love how the discs look, but the whole system seems a bit awkward. Cheers !

      And if I recall, the video discs were expensive too !

    • @manlystranger4973
      @manlystranger4973 21 день тому

      @@cheapbeat-upelvispresleyvi6195 Videodiscs were expensive, around $100+ in the early 80's, which would be about $320 today. The disc players themselves were mostly sold like 1970's Tupperware, at a party in a person's home. My parents were invited by "friends" to their house to see their new disc player, then given a sales pitch to purchase. The deal included a couple of free discs, so I got to watch Star Wars nearly every day for a couple of years. Players and discs were only sold at authorized dealers, which in our town was Mr. Clark's Appliance Store, a chain in the mid-west. You could also rent discs there, which is my first memory of being able to rent a movie anywhere. Rental cost was about the price of a single movie ticket, so for a family, it was a decent deal. I think the first movie my parents rented was Tootsie. The rental discs were displayed in the same type bins used for LP's in a record store, so I have fond memories of flipping through the discs. I do not remember any Elvis discs, but I do remember we rented a Muhammad Ali's Greatest Fights disc and Grandpa struggled to understand the boxing was not live as we watched it that night. Within two years, VHS players had wiped out both Beta-max and Videodisc and Mr. Clark's replaced the disc area with more washing machines and refrigerators ending the golden age of Videodisc.

    Fantastic video christian , what a treat visiting a place ELVIS stayed in. And to sit at the piano was the icing on the cake. These things are gold dust. In 1993 i got to meet DJ fontana and scotty moore, when they came to the uk . Treasured memories. 🎉😊

    Wonderful photos and interesting stories of Gulf Hills Christian.. I read in June Jaunico's book that Elvis recorded 'Is It So Strange?' for June. Fantastic laser discs, they look to be in superb condition. I wonder if RCA released the CBS TV Special to complete the set, but either way your '68 Special and Aloha discs must be so nice to own.
