Lock on, back to forward B aka Trick Down is his best evasive move. Lets him freely back out of any situation quickly for free pretty much.
Something important that you didn't mention: there's a visual and audio que for when JC is charged. The Yamato's tsuba will flash and a specific sound will play (kinda like when charging beowulf) before the sheath starts sparking electricity. If you release the button *just* as that flash happens, you should get a just frame JC.
I find it easier to time the release through constant practice.
For me, once i see the flash, it is already too late. It becomes a standard JC instead :(
The timing is definitely very rigid and almost requires you to practice it through constant trial-and-errors instead, which irks me endlessly but I guess we can't complain.

@@iriselle1918 yup, because we humans have a small delay, between our eyes to relay to our brains, and then to our hands.
@@scys3k sure thing, but I could never compain about my reaction time in videogames... still, PJC broke me x) I wonder if frame rates or input lag from a controller matters too (I play on PC and couldn't keep Trick on xbox 1's trigger like in Bayonetta, because trick down gets failed 70% of the time :\)

I learnd something cool recently but it would work only for a small amount of time, use haste doppelganger and use beowolf, as you slightly hold the button to attack it will let out just judgement cuts as you attack the enemy with Beowolf and covers for its lack of speed and reaction time. Idk maybe some of you can try it, its pretty cool
Any game that gives you a whole place to practice your abilities and get better is always the best game. I love how much freedom you have in the void.
When Virgil sheathes his sword (or just before he completely does) you'll see the hilt glimmer. THATS when you release. The timing is just a bit short of the second release for the 3rd and 4th DS. Hope this helps.

@@joke1700 This is actually a confirmed mechanic, the timing is much more lenient in the air. I still have some trouble doing it on the ground but in the air its not too bad

@@rabb7055 release just a little later than you think you should, look out for that first glint. I swear it only gets easier once you get the timing of the second DS. Practice my friend, you will get it I promise.
As far I'm aware jc can be perform perfectly with every sheath animation of Yamato , so if you see white flash that was the momento to do a perfect judgment cut
For those who are struggling, pay attention to the slight flash Yamato does as Vergil is done sheathing it, that's your cue to let go of the Δ/Υ button.
I always had trouble doing a just cut in dmc4se.
I could consistently do it with the second hit in his basic ground combo, but that's about it
In 4se, I could only do it off a rapid slash or an upper slash. Other than that I couldn't get it consistently, and even with those two moves I would still screw up often.
I actually found it so easy I could do it about 6 or 7 times in a row before eventually messing up the time or something else
@@OneUp-18 dmc5 just cut is stupidly easy compared to 4, played a ps5 so it must be a frame thing.

After playing with it for a bit, I realized you can only ever chain 3 perfect judgement cuts. Technically you can do 4 judgement cuts, but only if the first one is a regular cut and not frame perfect. And every time you do it right he says "Jackpot".

After a week of nonstop void training, I finally got the hang of it, I still haven’t mastered it yet because I am not able to get it 10/10 times during the missions. I just wanted to say thank you for the help you have provided me through this video. Thank you so much I really mean it.
For everyone else that is having a tough time, I followed the sound of when the distortion goes “zooooooom” right as that sound goes off I release for consecutive cuts. I don’t know if it helps but so far it has helped me. Once again thank you dude for the video I really appreciate it.

Yeah so basically 3 was hold then repeatedly press in time, 4 didn't have a multi judgement cut although if you get a couple perfect cuts in a row then that kind of counts and 5 well I'm not sure no pun intended but it is hard as hell
If you need the timing of the infinite perfect cut. Set up on google a metronome. Make the speed to 90 BPM. Realease the button on the beat and hold the button instantly after you released it again. Repeat the releasing part on every beat with the holding after and you will get the hang of it very quick.

Dude, ive been trying to use the judgement cut so I can be stylish, but I legit can't, I'm thinking maybe I should just give up on mastering judgement cut.

idk if you still play this but I've found that doing it in the air is far more forgiving than doing it on the ground

You mentioned SDT + Doppelganger Judgment Cuts, but I wanted to bring up that if you JC in SDT, each JC can hit three enemies at once. Plus, the first couple of seconds of SDT don't burn any gauge, so you can pop SDT, send out 9 Judgement Cuts, then deactivate SDT and rinse and repeat to melt enemies.

One good rule of thumb is to release triangle whenever Yamato put in the scabbard, almost as soon as it is completely sheathed release triangle or you're melee attack button
Noticed something interesting! I dunno if anyone else has pointed this out yet, but while I was practicing, something caught my eye that's helped me get it down. It appears that as Vergil performs a judgement cut and you have the attack button held down while he does so, his handle will actually flash blue to indicate when to let go! If you release the attack button RIGHT as it flashes, you'll get it down. Hope this is helpful, unless it's common knowledge that I'm just now discovering because I'm a scrub.
After actually learning how to chain JCs in-game, the way he explained it is actually the best way to say it. Only thing that I would add is that it helps if you make the button releases as fast as possible before holding down the button again.
As he sheaths his yamato, you see a flash of light when it fully sheaths....that’s when you release to get a perfect cut. The timing is delayed for the 1st perfect cut, but 2,3, and 4 are considerably quicker. It’s easy to pick up the timing in the void. The timing Is much more relaxed on air perfect cuts tho....hope that helps anyone having trouble finding the sweet spot

I found the timing to release the attack button is when it reaches neutral position, so when you do a JC, Vergil will move the Yamato and execute the JC, when he comes to sheath the sword, release the attack button when it comes to neutral position, you will know because there is a small white flash when Vergil comes to sheath his sword.
I found previous tutorials a little lacking (not necessarily ur fault- referring to the ones released around the same time as DMC5, when the meta was quite young), but this one went pretty in-depth while still remaining fairly well-edited, concise, and well-spoken.
Excellently done. Eager to send this to my friends when the Vergil DLC comes out on PC and we start playing together again. :D
Since Vergil just came out for PC, I found that holding down and releasing when his animation for the cut finishes to let go is also a good way to learn. . . also needing to increase button pressing speed right after you let go, this took me all day yesterday to learn :^( but this video helped me a lot, thanks.

I was so bad on it took me probably 20 hours to finally get it on DMD Mission 12. Even though I watched the tutorials it never wrapped around my head. Until, before sparda room.

Thank you for this video man, I did it by accident a few times but didn't know how and the move doesn't say anything about it. I looked at this video and spent about 20 minutes of trial and error in the void and just like you said, it was hard at first but I'm doing it almost on reflex now. I only get two consistently and sometimes three but I can tell after some time I'll have it

Question: Is the game good in either speed? If I were to ever pick up SE, I would be using Turbo but I guarantee it'd feel different
I'm struggling so badly to get it consistent. I've been hard timing it, and I only get it occasionally. But once I get a perfect, I just camt continue it. I've slowed down this video and looked at the exact moment the button is released, but it just isnt working
I juat go by movement now. After he JC the first time, i qait until he pust his entire sword back into his sheath and then i release once the full animation of him putting it back in is finished. Either that or ill give it a 1 second wait after he sheathes his sword again after the first JC

Months late, but try practicing it in midair; the timing is much easier than on the ground. Once you get the feel, the ground version will be easy too.
The fact multi Judgement cut returned is nice idk why it wasn't a thing in DMC4.

Doing my Vergil playthrough now and I finally got this down. Vergil shakes the sheathe of his sword when he does a JC. If you watch the movement of the sheathe and time the release for when the sheath is at the apex of it's movement sideways then you can do it easily. You basically have to make Vergil shake the sheath of his sword back and forth repeatedly, thinking about it that way made it easier for me. Also in the air it's really easy if you follow the animation of the attack, as soon as the JC begins to disappear is when you throw out another.

I always wondered why I never got attacked when I looked away from enemies, this explains it. I remember first seeing something like this back in the day when I played Biohazard Gun Survivor, I turned my back towards enemies and realized that they could not hurt me with the exception of the zombies that bump against you to turn you around. I wonder if this is a staple feature for most of Capcom's games relying on camera angles.
I figured out how to chain perfect judgment cuts in like 20 minutes so I practiced for a couple hours and basically now I can do an aerial combo consisting of just judgment cuts as Vergil

I’ve been trying to get this timing down for so long and man was it hard.
I figured out that you can JC with at least one of Mirage Edge's moves, being combo B. Immediately after Vergil hits the ground after the spin, you can hold melee and release before he resheaths Yamato to switch back to the katana and execute a Just Cut. I'm not sure about Deep Stinger, I have to try it later, but I know for a fact that Mirage Edge Combo B lets you do a judgement cut, as you are indeed using Yamato to attack.
Could you go more in depth on how to judge the timing?
The frame perfect versions are essential. Charging the sword has evasive properties when you let go, but doing it at the perfect timing at the end of your slash. On the ground i use the second hit of combo A most often as i feel its easier to time than the first. After you have that id work on chaining them to the 3 frame perfect Judgment cuts as doing that in devil trigger will interrupt and break poise of most bosses allowing you for a judgment cut end or a hell on earth for almost free
Another tip is just do the basic combo where Vergil woll slash up and then down and to practice the timing you have to pay attention to the glow of rhe scabbard when you do a perfect judgement cut there is a moment where the entire sword with the scabbard glows blue and thats your timing when it glows blue you release the hold. The timing for the air variant is more forgiving compared to the ground it's muchore Difficult for me to do it on the ground compared to in the air.
I can’t do judgement cut while Vergil is on the ground, but I have the timing in the air perfectly and cheesed my way through DMD flying around as Vergil Judgement cutting every room. Idk if you get good at one of the stances just perfect it and use it, trying to perfect air, ground, and follow up combo judgment cut is a feat.
*I don't know if a lot of people know about letting the sheathing animation play out, It gives you a bar of DT.
*If you are in SDT and use the extra combos like extended combo A for example, You get three bars instead of one, I'm not sure about the end of judgment cut end though.
*Also, you can judgment cut out of judgment cut end.
*You're welcome in the future.
*I just hope people still watch this so they could get my hint.
*Anyway, it might be easier to see the bar go up and release the POWER right when it goes up.

You forgot to mention this awesome advanced tech that you can "ease" the cancel by teleporting with airtrick/ trick down just before the timing window for just judgment cut and then let go of the button once vergil teleports and he will do a just judgement cut as soon as he appears. With this you can actually do just judgment cuts infinitenly and looks cool as fuck how vergil teleports and does a jc as soon as he appears, this is so much more useful since you can cancel any move into teleport.
now I finally know how i was getting 2 instant cuts on random while trying to time it.

I remember how broken judgment cut was in dmc3, you could buffer jc to pull off insane combos while shooting off ghost swords.
You dont have to land jjcs the moment the sheath sparks but also the flash when he puts the sword away its risky since you're standing still longer but its easier to time jjc even out of his taunts.
what made it easier for me was to hold triangle again as fast as I could after I release the button, got the timing easily after that. Still harder to do it in the floor than in the air
I have officially gotten the pjc down to near perfect muscle memory.
The trick is to not focus on the flash, but to establish a rhythm or beat that you sound off in your head.
For some reason I just can’t get the timing down even with hours of practice. It’s really discouraging and I feel pretty foolish especially when it seems so straightforward in your guide (which is a great video btw, thanks for all your DMC5 content)

Don't know if you've seen it already, but someone figured out how to chain judgement cuts without having to attack in-between.
It's really hard to do 3-4 consecutive JCs. My 1st day playing as Vergil in DMC 5. He is much harder to master than in DMC 4 SE.

So, is the timing more strict when you do it on the ground versus in the air? I can chain all the judgement cuts while in the air, but I still can't chain them together while doing it on the ground.

I really can't get the timing on this. Feels like the only times I've done it is on accident. Can you just press and release quickly for the follow ups or is there a slight hold on each one? Just seems to happen so damn fast I can't consistently do more than one.
Okay but do you have to buy sequential judgment cuts? Because im doing exactly what you said to do and its not doing it, and in the shop there's no sequential judgment cut move, maybe im just doing it wrong
Is it just me or can I not perform a judgement cut from a rising star attack? Pretty much all of his other melee attacks can be canceled into a judgement cut except that one seemingly. I hold the button down until the very end of the rising star attack but when I let go, nothing happens.
You can do just judgment after mirage edge combo B
The timing between each chain cut in the ground is also a bit shorter than in the air, so short it's barely noticeable by newer players.

I can barely do two judgement cuts but doing 4 straight times requires cutting edge precision timing.
also does the move not require you to lock on your enemies to perform it 4 straight times? that might be my issue of why i might not get the timing right.
How do you active Doppelganger while in Sin Devil Trigger?? I thought it was exclusively his "regular devil trigger" move?

I can't do more than 2 and it's not even consistent...I'm basing my timing on the audio because the animation is too fast for me but I can't quite understand how long to hold the button between one and the other.
Idk if anybody do watch the video, if ur camera is not facing the right way for u to see Vergil’s animation sheaths, I find by timing when the first judgement cut attack end then release
Well...This seems a lot easier than the DMC4SE way of doing it where you had to alternate between using Trick and Judgment Cut. Hopefully it'll be easier on the fingers.
Gosh I nearly forgot how to use this move after 2 months of not playing dmc 5. Now after training for 1 hour in the void, I can at least constantly chain 2 of it and sometimes 3 to 4. Guess I will need more practice to regain my skills lmao!
