Followed instructions exactly as shown in this video and in instruction manual. Freewheel would not clamp on. Worked two hours trying to get it to clamp. As a last resort I suggested removing the shim even though the instructions stated to use the shim between the footrest and footrest clamp (TiLite adjustable angle footrest). We had tried adjusting exactly as the video showed so this was the only thing left to try and we were shocked and so happy when the Freewheel clamped on completely and easily after that. I feel this will be an outstanding addition to my chair but wanted to comment here in case someone else was having difficulty.
Note: the shim I was referring to is not in this video but was shown in the instruction manual. It is a clear/white flat shim and the instructions show it goes between the footrest plate (where your feet sit) and the footrest clamp.
I'm hoping to be able to get one of these eventually. I haven't been in a chair long, but used to be a very outdoor person, and I want it to stay that way as much as it can.
The Freewheel itself is a great piece of kit and a big step forwards for mobility and independence, but in our experience the setup is not without issues. For us, none of the straight shims were able to fit into the grooves, I had to completely massacre the shim with a craft knife before I was able to tap it in carefully with a hammer (not slide it in easily like in the video). Maybe this is a quality control issue with the shims? Also, the perch bracket does not fit all wheelchairs, the bore in the bracket was far too small for the Quickie chair my wife has. We had to find a local engineering company who kindly drilled it out for us. I think the video should also mention that care should be taken to adjust the tracking of the Freewheel, otherwise it will be difficult to control direction consistently. As I say, once things are all set up correctly it's a great piece of kit. Well done!
do they have to be so expensive as trying to get my sister one and my opinion is brilliant idea but far to expensive a have to save up for this and it's a shame a just think it should be much cheaper sorry but wheelchair users don't even get told about this a just came across this looking up stuff for my sister who is disabled from waist down xxx
They are a pretty niche piece of kit and very well made, hence the cost. If you are looking for a cheaper option there are some frog legs that are cheaper, but unlike the free wheel, they don’t work on every chair. For me, saving up for this was very much worth it. It will easily last years... longer than most wheelchairs.
No Paula Wilson is correct. It’s a wheel and some metal. If it was not made for a mobility device it would not be as expensive. People that need mobility devices get burned because they need it, the market knows it, and the price goes way up. It’s just sad that the guy that invented this is in a wheelchair himself and he’s charging over $500 for it.
I had the freewheel on my TiLite Angular footrest (6.5 X 6.5). It's one of the crappy Karma S ERGO ATX, and I specifically got the TiLite footrest for the freewheel. Now I changed wheelchairs to the Colours Spazz-G and the footplate is 8.5 long X 6.5 wide...how do I adjust the freewheel? Is it the angle adjustment? Someone said you just adjust the tongue part. How do I do that? It would be the tube with the plate footrest one. I think it's just use the longer rear end one...but I no longer have that.

ebay sell these for £400 some £389 but for a wheelchair user this is no a lamp or a new thing for the home this should not be expensive makes me angry as it's hard every day for her and most disabled people never mind saving up shame am no been mean just hate the fact it's almost as if live is no hard as it is pay £500 for a wheel shame 😢😢😢

tube footrest the thick shim doesnt work it just falls straight off!

This looks incredibly difficult to set up. We're not all mechanical engineers.
I didn`t see anyone useing the damn thing, only adjustments and still photos. Crap video. Still don`t see how it works.
