I understand about being under 25 and car insurance being high.People don't understand when you live in a big city with public transportation that can get you around you don't need a car especially when everything is close.When you live far out and things are spaced out you need a car.I live in Atlanta you definitely need a car here not so much in NYC.

having a car in the city is not necessary. i grew up in Brooklyn and both parents had a car and parking was ridiculous. it was very rare that we even parked close to home, mind you the train station was 2 blocks away. it was always closer than the car. smh, now if you live in the burbs with a drive way, then that's different. you don't have to worry about getting parking or what side of the street you can park on.
