I love that you provide a timer and timestamps in the actual video, as well as the description. Thanks for the upload and your effort!
This is a great example of what Konami's CV4 Mapper chip could do on the NES. Enhanced graphics and sound. One of the best NES game soundtracks.
VRC4 actually couldn't do expansion audio, but it did do more for the looks of the game.
AFAIK the only advantage of the VRCIV is the 1kb banks and the IRQ. Other than that, it's just a memory mapper with similar capatibilities as MMC3. So, the stunnig graphics and sound are more related to good programming than a internal chip.
The only reason this might sound better is because the uploader has put compression onto it, which gives it that punchy sound you're hearing and completely ruins video game rips imo.
02:19 Fortress
03:36 Heavy Blow
I remember as a kid I accidently pressed A+B+select and it brought me to sound mode.
That was always cool, accidentally figuring out a new option or feature
Which console or computer did you have? Because this game was never released on NES
@@timrhicks1234 family computer(Good Boy)

It's wonderful how they made such nice tracks on NES sound processor
Hidenori Maezawa's magic :) He also arranged Contra's soundtrack for the Famicom/NES release. And yes, that's just pure 2A03 sound, no extra chips involved.
~tim and geoff follin~
one of the best NES soundtracks for sure, Konami always hits it out of the park when they're doing their music
Patashu Konami , especially Japan, understands high quality soundtrack music especially for their video games.
i like that you uplaoded this 2 years before then again
I love that the Stage 2 and 4 music made it into Captain N
Man I really wish Over Heat would have gotten some love in later games. I'm pretty sure this is the only official game where the tune appears.
I always loved the little nuance in the game for silencing the sound effects for a short time when a new song begins, except for Something Ghostly, where they let the song loop one time without interruptions from sound effects. Really hammers in the point, that "this is it, the final stage!".
Yeah Konami did the same thing in Gradius I and Salamander (Life Force)
This is amazing. Glad it got to the US under the Gradius Collection.
Wasn't Vulcan Venture Europe-only? I'm pretty sure Gradius II never had an official US release until the PSP Collection, and the Wii VC port of the PCE-CD version after that.
The reason is because of this "VRC4"
OMG!! Can't say how much I love this game and this soundtrack. This is something the kids these days can't understant. Fucking amazing!
my favorite since the first time was the "crystal thing music" haha 05:02.. nanananaaa nanananaaaaaaa hihihihih i loveeeeeeehh
where are you from? this game was not released outside of japan if I'm correct.. but gotta say you have some great taste.
@@misn100 I'm from Brazil. Both my cousin and I had the NES cartridges :) I still have it, btw.
@@MelTherion haha then it means youve got the original red Famicom system. great parents!!
I'm what you'd call a kid of this day and age (despite me turning 19) but I love the Gradius series to pieces, and even as a kid I loved games that were older than I was.
thank you for this!
11:11 Something Ghostly
A soundtrack from that time when Konami really had their NES music style dialed in. You can always tell a Konami soundtrack from that of other companies in how they used the midi instruments and channels.
parodius (game boy) take care (stage 2 boss)
turtles 2 does this, the adventure of byuo billy or mad city. top gun the second mission. even turtles 1.
there are 2 types. no, 3. castlevania and rush and attack. that soundfont, tiny toon adventures (turtles 1 did it also) and contra, super contra.
There are 2 composers for this album. Hidenori Maezawa (前沢秀憲), Yukie Morimoto (森本幸恵)
I fell in love to this game's music. 😍😍😍
Overheat stage 6 badass excitement
Haven't played it back in the days but played it through last week on emulator ... what an insane game!!! :D

this is one of the NES soundtracks ever
Never played this one but all of these songs have such an intense pulse running through them. Love it.
Best NES soundtrack ever! This one and Mega Man 2. Maybe there are other as good as these ones, I still have to learn about the NES library...
If you want to see some truly awesome, yet underrated, NES soundtracks, see the following:

My favorite song.
Konami produces some of the best 8 bit music I ever heard.

Wow, I really have to audio mod my NES sometime-I have this on an everdrive cart but I use the standard American NES-001 model (the “gray toaster”) so I didn’t even realize it was one of the games that had the on-board sound chip with extra audio channels.
Over Heat ... my favourate one
One of the video game track compositions. Just listen to it's originality.
konami in nes... the best i love all konami music
Mono and dry is all we need, thanks.
+ym2612 I prefer soaking wet stereo NSFs myself (more than this in fact), I know I can't be the only one. I find I can better appreciate the nuances of these compositions with none of the audio quality limitations of the original console. I like to think the original composers and programmers would have wanted it that way.

The thing I loved about the NES version of "Take Care" as opposed to the Arcade and later 'mixes' of it...the NES version had the harmonies in it...instead of it sounding just like the same notes looped, like the Arcade and later mixes do.
2:19 Fortress
Excelente.
LOVE stage 2 ! Only on the NES/Famicom version, right ?
The quality of sound presented here is better than and far from what I hear from the selected emulators for Nintendo family computer that I use. Are these from the original soundtrack on audio compact disc?
He uses an NSF player with an extra reverber program, and the he mix it all together, and that is why it sounds better. I'm also doing the same sorta thing, but with a different echoing.

force field
@@moonlightaffairs A typical car is just as fragile as Vic Viper and there's no force fields in real life, sadly.

Heavy Blow最高!
It's a shame this was Japan only. This soundtrack is better than the arcade counterpart in my opinion.
100% agree, the Famicom soundtrack is one of the best of all time.
Wasnt also european released?
remixed burning heat on ddr/beatmania are great!
❤️❤️❤️
How did you get it to sound like that? Because it doesn't sound like that when I listen to it on Foobar/GNSF.
Burning Heat Stage 1
Cannot understand why this game was never released on NES. Even better than Lifeforce!
Probably one of the best video game soundtracks of all time. Why didn't this damn game come to the North America? It makes no sense.
Prolly because it had an enhancement chip that wasn't allowed in NES carts at the time. Remember how Draconian Nintendo used to be about their 3rd-party publishers?
DDR! - Burning Heat!!
burning heat have the starting part simular to contra ending them though oO
I first heard this in DDR and thought it was a contra remix.
Why, oh why, oh why did this not make it to the US? I’d have been all over this game.

It's the music from Megaman 4 Minus Infinity!
Take care final boss of bosses
I like the X68000 MIDI version with an SC-55 a little better, but damn did the NES have great musical capabilities!
Shame this NES port of *Gradius II* never came to the USA. 😭😭
But it did get an european release right? I mean nemesis II
Alpha Doge
It was exclusively released in Japan, and was never released anywhere else.
Such a shame really.
I think there was an adapter though where you can play famicom games on nes.
It's no SCC, but it'll do.
I think you're using a chorus effect for emphasis, yes?
this is my best!!
