Love watching your videos. I always imagine the roar of the train going past and the people who would have lived and worked in those old homesteads. It's like the energy is still in those places, thanks for taking us there. Appreciated the cow content! We have a small herd here in Wellington, NZ. Good to see you both got out safe, would have been a cold night eek!!

I had 2 Great Uncles that worked on the Great Northern Railroad. They had Chinese gang's that worked for them and I have pictures of Railway and gang's! Thank you for the great content! Sincerely LoblB

Cool explore, awesome tunnel... Imagine the labor required to build that tunnel with the technology of 1911-1914... Just getting the gravel for the track bed in place let alone all that concrete. It is in great shape still, imagine that rebar hand not been invented yet. Imagine how long it would stay in place if they had used it... That old foundation could be part of a locomotive servicing area.It could be a sand bunker.Locomotives use sand for traction when starting the train to move or when the rails get slippery.😂😊

I enjoy the researching almost as much as having boots on the ground.that most likely was a stock yard at one time, there where many of these alongbthe Milwaukee and was common practices back then as not every framer had the equipment (semis) to haul them out directly to the acution yards or slaughter.

The cowboy pushing cattle down the mountain mentioned he lived around there. caught him in the tunnel and he said his family grazed for generations I didn’t think to ask about that either.. (Particularly colonial era) It’s hard to grasp personally in a certain context the industrial/economic changes both of our countries experienced slightly before the Great Depression (1912- 1938) and after into the age of modern industrialization or corporatism. However a result of these changes created a shifting dynamic centered on global trade and economic cooperation as well as foreign investment that greatly changed the landscape for the local individual and local economy itself. cities became the new norm offering much better amenities and access. (A more direct demand and instant access for goods and services based on commodities) as well as a stronger corporate value and return on investment for corporate interests in comparison to small business/operations this essentially caused rural economies to be hedged out by interests hold larger market share against the “little guy” or small landowner/entrepreneur. (In a very short analysis) Mostly now a few large corporations control the market share in a given industry not the individual or small business. As a result these areas no longer needed to be accessed or served as logistics and supply support was also outsourced and controlled by a larger interest owning more market share. Essentially forcing those folks into a different market and location with opportunity!

Dont mind me asking i noticed in the beginning you were driving north on the well graded southern GN track bed to portal #9 entrance, how come you didn’t continue to drive up to to the southern tunnel 9?? Then it cut to you on the north end heading south now to the tunnel with the cattle drive. @mountainwestproduction
That’s a good question, originally I intended to head north and continue the line as mentioned. The grade was much steeper and very washed out. The mountain run off appears to wash down the southern facing portal side. Not to say a side by side or horse etc couldn’t access it. Vehicle travel is somewhat limited and almost no mobility space wise. It’s a great rail bed but not the best side for ease of access motor vehicle wise. Thanks for tuning in, appreciate ya👍👍👋
@ thanks for responding also have you been to tunnel 7 on that line? with my research should be north of 9 i cant seem to find on satellite maps for portal 7. Ive found 6 the long one. But 7 is stumping me.
@ like wise I’m heading to 6 next I thought this was it but isn’t obviously now. 6 is very interesting and unique has a very slight 22 degree angle almost. In a really fantastic location/setting it appears on picture as well. You’re welcome, happy to share and enjoy this history with everyone!
@@MountainWestProductions tunnel 7 looks to be near basin but nothing comes up on google maps. Maybe it crosses over bison creek at the 15 to the east.
@@DesertDrifter It may, I have look for awhile it’s there and it’s in plain site between that and wickes area I feel. I have seen recent pictures. You think it would be more prominent however. I see the area you mentioned as well!
