Damn, the Velvets rocked harder than any of their contemporaries, yet still bumped out the tenderest of ballads like it was no big deal. This and 'After Hours' are as beautiful as anything from the doo-wop era.
My husband is very, very, very quiet. Like almost mute quiet, and he rarely speaks if not spoken to first. He wants to talk more to me but he kind of can't unless I initiate a conversation and even then he mainly nods or shakes his head. So as a way of speaking to me, he sometimes does something when I listen to a song. If it has a line he wants to say to me, he touches me. I was listening to this, just minding my business. But when "I'll do anything for you...anything you want me to." came on, he started rubbing my hand softly, holding it and rubbing it, rubbing it more and more as "I'm sticking with you" started being sung. I'm tearing up writing this. Because he's telling the truth. In his own, unconventional, amazing ways he has tried to fulfill every need and want I have had to the best of his ability. I have PPD and struggle to trust others. But as I write this I am tearing up and realizing this man is so goddamn in love with me, as I am with him. There is no man that could ever come close to him in my eyes.
@@dannyboy6114 yes he does! I do too, and so does our son. It just manifests differently in me. He had a very healthy family who accepted him for who he is, so he doesn't really mask or force himself to act differently, at least not usually. @destructionandcreation ❤️❤️ I have been like this most of my life apart from when I went off the rails a bit with alcohol and drugs. RIP Lou. I dedicate your wonderful song to my true love. Thank you for your life, thank you for sharing your genius with us. You will never be forgotten.
It was 1987. My wife was pregnant and I was reading a book about pregnancy. It said that you could sing to an embryo in the pregnant belly and it would remember it (or something like it) after birth. That sounds pretty stupid, but I tried it anyway. When Junior was on the rampage again, I lay down on my wife's stomach and sang "I'm Sticking With You" to him. I thought it was somehow appropriate, even if the Velvet Underground wasn't exactly the epitome of beautiful songs. So I tried it and, believe it or not, after 2-3 times it got quieter. The even more amazing thing was after the birth. When Junior had something (if it wasn't flatulence) that bothered him, I would take him in my arms and sing him "I'm Sticking With You" and he would calm down immediately. Call me a liar, a dreamer or an incurable idiot, the story is true. And this with a group that once sang about "Heroin".
My brother asked me to play the most romantic song I could come up with during his wedding reception. My first and only thought was I'm sticking with you. They didn't know about vu (young people) 😑 I know it has a dark undertone but I still think its a great love song, a great song, a classic song, a testimony to life. They are still married and now have two children togheter :)
Lou was a great song writer, positively literary...... he/she sings the initial tag line to one set of chords, has a jarring, touching and preposterous break using other chords, then returns to the tag line with different chords yet, and the silliness elevates into profundity, intimate and utterly romantic... who does that better than him? Play it, musicians; you'll see how brilliant this "ditty" of his is.

Beautiful song, the warm, clear, unique voices that alternate frame a message as beautiful and important as how love can unite people making them live as a single entity ... love is power .... having it ... living it .... sharing it is a force that allows us not to have barriers, obstacles .... love goes by itself in its favorite path on which we proceed in only one direction and when you stop you have to listen to this song and take up the pace with joy and confidence . Who has it if you take care of it, if you hold it tightly exposing it to the sun to make it shine in order to receive its enormous heat. Love is ageless and sometimes fragile ..... This song always reminds me of my cat because she follows everywhere :)
Sound's like child's nursery rhyme.But it isn't.
fred Lastfred I think that was the idea. a lot of nursery rhymes and children's stories are kinda violent.
I think its about heroin, vietnam and random shit
Exactly, this sounds more like codependence, brrrrr!
my dad always used to play it to me when i was sad, so it kinda is that to me.
My husband and I are stuck like glue and enjoying this jam💋💋💋
this is off the chart of adorable...i must put this on my profile and share with my facebook friends
The harmonizing on the oh ooh ohs gets me every time.
The ending of this song is just prime.
I had to mature before I could appreciate music like this
I gotta hand it to that ad. I found a hidden gem.

my mummy used to sing this to me when I went to bed, good memories :')
At last, somebody mentions Mo Tucker!!!! Not just a great drummer, ahead of her time,( 'coz it was rare to have a female drummer in the '60s, ) but also a good singer. Lou Reed was just a brilliant song writer too!!! Such a cheerful, positive song!!!
This video was posted on my birthday. Nice coincidence. Great song.
