Some unknown gems you've discovered there! Were you riding flats or did you just unclip to ride the black diamonds? Also, what's the brand of your hybrid backpack/bum bag?
Yes.....Red Mesa is a gem.....in the right season of course. AZ can get hot, and rattlesnakes could be an issue out there. Also an extreme lack of shade. The City of Page loop has been around for a while. Red Mesa was newly built and I was alerted to it by a friend that knew I may be in that area. As far as shoes/pedals..... I have been riding shimano spd's for ever. In fact my current pedals and shoe clips are quite old and well broken in. They are just second nature to me. So I stay clipped in all the time. Even on the black diamonds. Unclipping if something happens is just spontaneous and subconscious. On a very rare occasion will a clip not disengage. That I have noticed is almost always at a slow pace. Emergency unclips have never been an issue for me. The Pack: Wow ! Is IT old. I took about 10 minutes to see if it is even available any more. It is a Treknology Lumbar pack. Treknology was a Seattle pack & gear maker (in the 90’s). I got mine around 1992 when I was a bike patroller for the BLM / slickrock trail in Moab. Treknology had made a dozen in red for the patrol, and offered patrollers a bargain deal if they wanted a personal purchase. It was originally made to carry a snowboard sideways for hike in riding, between the main body and small pouch. Two water bottle pouches on the sides too. A big lumbar pack with shoulder and chest strap to steady it. It looks like Treknology went out of business or became true north, Im not sure. The pack was carried by True North for a while but I can't find it now. It IS my favorite biking pack. ( I found some on pintrest, and some gear sale sites, but all sold. [[ offerup.com/item/detail/714585489 ]] I'd buy another in a heartbeat if I found one)
Headed there tomorrow
