Cold weather Fat Bike Ride (prepping for Fat Bike Worlds '24)
Переглядів 5410 місяців тому
Just a quick short vid. Fat bike and gear testing on a couple cold Colorado days. I'm no pro racer, so I'm prepping for the "fun run 18 mile ride", possibly the full course fun ride, and for sure a loop on the Mineral Belt Trail. Evaluating the low psi they mandate as max, on the groomed fat bike course of 8 psi, some new light fleece lined stretchy cold weather pants I can use overlanding, & h...
Red Mesa Rim & Page Loop by MTB
Переглядів 338Рік тому
Came into Page AZ purposely, to ride the brand new recently opened Red Mesa Rim Trail, and the loop trail around the city of Page. And I accidentally stumbled into the 2023 balloon regatta. Both mountain bike trails offer something for everyone. The Page City Loop is pretty easy but very fun and scenic. The Red Mesa Rim Trail is awesome with easy, moderate, and black diamond sections along it. ...
Time on the rocks

You ever find one of those places that just grabs you? This place grabbed me for sure. An alternative area to the famous wave, this is a hard to access via four-wheel drive backcountry location. I initially was going to spend a day or two here, but it hooked me and I stayed for 5. And 5 days almost didn't seem like enough with all the nooks and crannies and surrounding landscape to explore by f...
Random Recap of 2022 to Feb. 2023

APOLOGIES!!! Had to delete and re-upload ! First upload was the wrong version. This one has most locations added. My bad! By no means all inclusive. Video came about by experimenting with the video app in my phone (action director), fast chronological picks of 30 second or less snippets in my phone, whipping thru and random picking transitions, and adding music (artlist) I've stored for vids.
The Bradshaw Trail & Train Trestle
Переглядів 148Рік тому
My first time traveling the Bradshaw Trail from east to west, to get to the Salton Sea. Weather report was good for the first day with a bad day of wind to follow, so I decided to set up camp and explore that area by foot and bike till the weather passed and I would have a nicer time down on the shores. I find that two day camps offer a better feel for an area. More still photos and narrative o...

This video was inspired by an Edward Abbey quote I read. Watch the video to see what it was. But the gist is, many times you have to get out of your vehicle to see the best of what's out there. Walk, crawl, climb, swim.... use your own power, blood, sweat, and grit if you are able, and reap the rewards of the beauty of the lesser seen places. And the bonus of possibly make cool discoveries alon...
The AMC Eagle on Black Bear 2022
Переглядів 3,6 тис.2 роки тому
Twas a few years....well, close to 10, since I last traversed The Bear in my 82 Eagle Sx4. After de-mothballing from a 5 year hiatus this spring, and an awesome shakedown run in Moab during EJS 2022, I decided to do a bunch of Eagle trips and wanderings this summer to include Black Bear. Met up with friends in some beautiful Colorado high country and wandered 20 days towing my A-lite 400 behind...

Eagle Sx4, Shakedown runs, 2022
Переглядів 5782 роки тому
My Eagle Sx4, previously used quite a bit, had unfortunately been "mothballed" the last 5 years. Life got busy, and the Eagle got neglected. I decided this year it was making a come back. After taking care of some TLC items, getting it up snuff, rebuilding the brakes and front bearing hubs..... it needed some shakedown time out in Moab during Easter Jeep Safari 2022. Here's some highlights of t...

very cool
Headed there tomorrow
Ha that’s awesome
Nice video, epic!
... Holy cow ! That was one 'white knuckle' drive ! ... Just watching caused my anxiety level to climb as high as the peak of those mountains ! 🇺🇸😆👍 ...
Some unknown gems you've discovered there! Were you riding flats or did you just unclip to ride the black diamonds? Also, what's the brand of your hybrid backpack/bum bag?
Yes.....Red Mesa is a gem.....in the right season of course. AZ can get hot, and rattlesnakes could be an issue out there. Also an extreme lack of shade. The City of Page loop has been around for a while. Red Mesa was newly built and I was alerted to it by a friend that knew I may be in that area. As far as shoes/pedals..... I have been riding shimano spd's for ever. In fact my current pedals and shoe clips are quite old and well broken in. They are just second nature to me. So I stay clipped in all the time. Even on the black diamonds. Unclipping if something happens is just spontaneous and subconscious. On a very rare occasion will a clip not disengage. That I have noticed is almost always at a slow pace. Emergency unclips have never been an issue for me. The Pack: Wow ! Is IT old. I took about 10 minutes to see if it is even available any more. It is a Treknology Lumbar pack. Treknology was a Seattle pack & gear maker (in the 90’s). I got mine around 1992 when I was a bike patroller for the BLM / slickrock trail in Moab. Treknology had made a dozen in red for the patrol, and offered patrollers a bargain deal if they wanted a personal purchase. It was originally made to carry a snowboard sideways for hike in riding, between the main body and small pouch. Two water bottle pouches on the sides too. A big lumbar pack with shoulder and chest strap to steady it. It looks like Treknology went out of business or became true north, Im not sure. The pack was carried by True North for a while but I can't find it now. It IS my favorite biking pack. ( I found some on pintrest, and some gear sale sites, but all sold. [[ offerup.com/item/detail/714585489 ]] I'd buy another in a heartbeat if I found one)
A beautiful landscape.👍
Those rocks are pretty cool 😎

My '83 SX/4 was my favorite car. I finally had to give it up after thirty years when the frame was no longer solid.
Lets see the tight switch backs

Great video and amazing trails to explore. I'm curious if you are running an EFI set up on your SX4? Sorry if you've covered that in other videos...this was just recommended to me.
I have considered it. I'm still running a carburetor. It actually runs pretty well, and I'm getting almost 26 mpg with the straight six and it "fast passes" local emissions ! (I kid you not !). So I don't see a need just yet. Yes, it is persnickety to start some cold morning, and likes to warm up before she runs best, but for now I'm fine with that. If it gets to a point the carb becomes a bad issue, I have looked at some of the efi kits out there and may go for it.
An interesting team - two large, heavy SUVs and one nimble kid!😍💥
What an amazing place to explore! That sunset😍
You captured the beauty wonderfully in this video! Yes, that was a heart in the tree😁 I love the fresh snow! I really enjoyed this so you've got a new subscriber and I'll be back for more😄
Thank You !
Watch out for those damn ice dams ;)
Sláinte Merry Christmas Jim! I hope someday we can hook up in Utah! All the best from Ron and Charlene! She is Scottish😉
Merry and A Happy to you all as well ! We have to make that happen ! This fall was whack with that insane weather that came thru, making us all look for refuse and hunker down at times. To 2023 !

Fantastic video. How long did it take you to install the EZ Lift actuators?
The install was pretty quick (relatively). An afternoon, after deciding where best to place them. The kit was pretty well stocked with mounting hardware that can be configured different ways to meet your needs, as well as a color coded wiring harness. You have to run wires for the lifts, to a power source (my system has it's own dedicated deep cycle in the truck bed), and the control box. That being said.....as we off roaders often do.....change our minds on priorities and set ups.... I knew the possibility existed I may fall out of favor of the topper lift set up for something more substantial, and not want the lift system to have been a waste of money. Deciding to keep my Hallmark pop-up camper on for the last few years with my lifts just sitting in storage, I was able to retro fit them into the camper to raise the top - most of the way - and just the last couple inches with the camper lift bars. It actually worked awesome. So, you have versatile lifts if you change your mind down the road too. I'll eventually do a short video about that.
@@backcountryoverland103 Thanks for the info. sounds like a straight forward install.
Great video Jim! 4 days and counting for our trip!
Great video! It proves you can take your Eagle anywhere! Wish I was closer to country like this. Check out my Eagle build and let me know what you think! ua-cam.com/video/K9-ZoNqIhKY/v-deo.html
I was like I want to take my 83 wagon there - until I saw low range and rear locker! Well, one can imagine. Thanks for the video.
Hello! Nice to meet fellow UA-camrs and explorers! Wow, that scenery is amazing! Can't wait to explore stunning places like that! Safe travels!! 💙Terry and Terri

Dave Lay 22 seconds ago Great job Jim, you did the eagle proud . I hope we can do another trip before to long . Love the drone work , man your showing your skills and you do know your Killing Pat.don’t you ? Lol. Take care man,
Thanks Dave. Just trying to keep vicarious blood flowing. Was a time, when he had retired before me, killing me with -his- wanderings. All good. We'll all meet up in time again ! Be well brother!
Sweet Eagle! The car I wanted for my first as a kid! We rock Waylon Jennings when in the Southwest! Keep those vids coming!
Sweet!! That ROCKED!! That is a super hot oldie! Only you would have known it take to rocks like that on...Congrats
Sweet!!!!!!!! That is one super hot oldie!!!
Bits and pieces of video, you must have turned around.
Turned around where? This shows the trip down pucker point to the upper falls. The rest of the trip (switchbacks) to Telluride is easy.
Happy Birthday Jim! Love the fat bike!
Did you see us waving back? High four Jimbo! 👋
howwdy?! BackCountry-amazing -goodbye!-=)
Or what about rolling into camp in the wee hours and loudly setting up camp? This secret might work for that too! ;P
Well, that was quite a trip. Haha your out smarting this kinda thing . And im liking it. 👍 thanks.
Fish Ford? Made the crossing with a Dodge 50 perhaps 25 or 30 years ago. I sat on the shore nearly puking over the STUPID risk I had taken. It would be a LONG trip back to GJ but better than losing your vehicle. HINT; Its called FISH Ford and its over a RIVER
Depending on the season and CFM, I may or may not make the crossing. I have in the past opted to turn around. I'll usually walk the crossing prior to driving. Late seasons you can see the bottom. Spring run off.... not so much, and a risky crossing. I do like this crossing for through passage of the "triangle", whether embarking from GJ, or Gateway up Sheep Creek. Delving into the D.T. for 3 or 4 days exploring, then out to Moab to resupply. This isn't "Fish Ford" though. This is at "Roberts Bottom" where BLM Road 107 goes into the Deloris Triangle. It is an approved road and crossing. Yes, it can still be deep at times so driver beware and pre-walk it. Open google maps searching for the Dewy Bridge Campground and drag the map east, you'll see this location. I have been to fish ford south of Cisco, but never noticed a crossing there. Are you saying there's a bridge there? Thanks for checking in.
Thank you for the great video , you need to put more out , we miss you and your travels . As always stay safe and healthy .
I will be getting more out ! I recently retired from my full time job in July. Between that and my two part time gigs, trips, wanderings, and super slow internet.......it's been a bear to upload content. So for now, I'll still do my part time things, but mostly on "my schedule" now and be able to work on more, and ~better~ content. Thanks ! Happy New Year !
Great video Jim! Thanks! Can't wait to cross the border and get back at the Southwest! Would love to run into you and Pat again! All the best!
Thanks ! Too kind ! I think it was so so, but had some good things. Recently retired so I'll get out more. Pat is doing well and we had one hella good Sept into Oct trip this year with the "real" Garran & Alice...... hehehe. Hope you are well up there and that we have another meet up!
Pretty part of the country!
full size truck , BB pass....wow man , Balls of pure steel
I bet that's fun in the winter time
Great trip ! Love the drone shots !
How much headroom is there?
When it's raised you can stand but need to crouch (in my roof line height topper). When sitting its roomy. The lifters pick up the topper about 14 inches. So depending on the topper height it can be different topper to topper.
Man I would not be able to ride with you you do too many movements it would freak me out I would have to get out and walk you made it to the bottom great job
Man I would not be able to ride with you. You’re freaking me out with all your movements good job I’m glad you made it to the bottom I would have to get out and walk.
Hehehe......."High Speed situational scanning and awareness". Thanks for the feedback. I had a relook at the vid and see what you mean. I do keep an eye on the trail in and out of the window, especially in a bigger truck on a tight trail. Also checking back a lot this run knowing the camera was on a mount I thought may fail. I have done BB many many times and have a good comfort level on it. Unfamiliar trails I'm a little less "movey" . Peace!
Amazing. Do you have a video of the Ram 2500 doing Black Bear Pass?
