I’m an st1300 rider. What new from honda can compete with the st1300? One thing I like more about a big dual sport bmw type bike is the foot peg to seat length and ability to tear up gravel roads. Otherwise….the st1300 is perfect. The electric windshield is amazing on the old st1300. What can meet my needs in a new bike? My friends gave KTM 1290 and such…which is fun and cool but no electric windshield and not so reliable.
Always amazes me when they make screens that, as you raise them, become closer to vertical. Some manufacturers don't even have a basic knowledge of aerodynamics..
Here in Australia we only were able to buy a mk1 CBF1000. Now this bike looks very much like the mk2. I wouldn't say no to a test drive.....in the manual variant.
Thanks for your review. A much more honest review than I've seen before. I do have one question for you though. How do you think it compares in comfort to the old ST 1300?
I have a tracer 900gt and rode this and the GSX-1000gt back to back today- Honda is the better tourer, GSX is the better sport bike and tracer is a mix of the two. GSX is uncomfortable for me, engine and handling is amazing but as a tourer no way. Tracer is good mix of the two. For me being 6'4, Honda was comfy as out and has enough go to have some fun. Seriously considering the Honda but not sure if it's that much better than the Tracer
Sold my GSXR1000R recently and I've been eyeing the R1250RT as a replacement for my wife and I, but this checks most (but not all) of the boxes for me, and it's significantly less money. Love the fact that it has Apple Carplay and a DCT. I read somewhere that in DCT Automatic mode, there is a Sport setting with 3 selections (S1, S2, and S3) to allow mild or more aggressive shifting characteristics.
@@mathiashammar1 but it's not not meant for a bike, it's meant as an infotainment system pure and simple and has been implemented on several bikes It's on the Africa Twin, the Goldwing and now the NT If you don't like it, don't use it, simple as however many people do like it and do use it.
Unless you are very well "heeled" and don't mind paying a fortune to have the bike fixed, (they make it so you can't work on it yourself), I'd steer clear of BMW's. Don't ask me how I know.
@cjljr41 You are correct. I've been riding NC750X DCT for over 5 years now. DCT is something to get used to, but once you master it, it is amazing! My preferred mode is S2. D-mode is dull, quick to shift up, and slow to shift down, thus lacking engine breaking. It is mostly made so that Honda can meet Euro 5 standards and reach those unbelievable mileages with one tank of fuel. (there are reports on NC forums that guys spend as low as 3,2 litres per 100 km on 750 ccm engine; btw, my 15k kms average is 4,5 lit/100 km). I believe that is why many reviewers criticize it, as the D-mode is the one that comes up first once you turn on the engine, and they never bother to switch to S-mode, as they are not used to it. That's my opinion why most reviewers talk negatively about the DCT, they just don't have experience with it. S2-mode is a completely different ballgame! A perfect balance of throttle response and downshifting when you need it. S3 goes even further into sports riding, kicking two gears down when you open the throttle for quick overtaking. And there is another thing: a user mode where you can further tailor RPM shift-up points. Everything is in User Manual, which nobody bothers to read. It just takes a bit of tweaking if you are not fully satisfied with the way it comes out of the box, but once you adjust it to your liking-it is a dream! Btw, I will be trading my faithful NC for NT this year, it is time to upscale, the new NT 1100 ticks all my boxes!
I like the nt1100, the looks are great and of course it's a Honda.. so the quality is good. But the screen is adjustable from the outside, cruise control on the throttle side , and you always change the driving mode by accident, because you are very easily accidentally press this button.:3.27 you can't say the nt1100 is almost the same as the tracer 9Gt..The tracer is much more of a sport bike, the engine of the tracer 9gt is just more refined and faster.I wouldn't don't mind having to drive the nt1100, but as someone who likes to drive occasionally sporty, it's the tracer for me
Really good full review. Ive got a CB1100EX. It does 70 mph at 3000 rpm in top with plenty of torque, with a useable range from 1500 to 3000 rpm. I am so smitten with that aspect I am looking for an engine to match that before changing the bike. This bike comes close. Mine does 64 mpg but is not as suited to touring as this machine but is still easy to ride. It did the NC500 with no issues using bags rather than panniers. It can be a bugger to clean though if you like to keep it showroom and needs to be kept that way ideally. This bike looks a good wet weather bike. If I had the room and brass I would have both.
I borrowed one from Honda while my Honda Crossrunner 2012 was in for a fix. It was the auto version. The electric LCD display had failed and had a "warning" permanently on display. The ride was comfortable for distances. I sat in a bubble of still air at high speed. Very unnerving tbh but probably a bonus for touring. The auto gearbox was a right faff. Changing up was lurchy and it never really liked changing down from what felt like top, even to 20-30mph. The up changes were okay to a point, but not good going in slow to a bend then accelerating out. I was warned it could get unsettling. As ive ridden around 60 bikes in my 35 years of riding and in all conditions, I cant say i wasn't impressed at all. Handing back the keys i felt slightly disappointed. I certainly don't like the new display units on modern bikes. Its all a bit of a gimmick.

Its sad to see the evolution of Honda. Don't forget CB1000, CB1300, CBR1100, VTR1000, XL1000 varedero,VFR1200X. Honda basically discontinued a dozen good touring bikes. And mid weight V4 concept seams to be ditched also. Instead the make Giant scooter :D
What's a "super sport tourer"? I have always just thought of the Pan European bikes as regular ol' tourers and the VFR and Blackbird as sports tourers.

Not into gizmos, I drive a truck to Spain, so it's good to escape from all that stuff and enjoy the ride! Maybe a CL1100 version would be the best platform for me, A/T too tall?
The lower LCD screen is pointless…until you fire up Car Play (which consumes the TFT screen) and realize that now you’ve no idea how fast you’re going or what gear you’re in. That’s why the LCD is there, bro.
Thank you for another excellent expert review. At 6’1” myself, the wind noise from the screen would be a dealbreaker for me, unless I could find a taller screen from Honda or a better aftermarket version like the Givi Airflow I have on my Wee Strom. I also appreciate your feedback on the DCT. (Did you find the sports mode noticeable improve the DCT?) Think I’d go manual with the auto blipper.
I can't see what this offers over my 650 Strom other than cruise control, and nothing over the 1050 V-Strom which is 3000 pounds cheaper. Just put Michelin Road 5s on it and a Givi screen, job done.

It’s likely a good bike but it just seems lazy to me in so many ways. Honda have a history of such great tourers with fantastic engines. Not Knocking the engine in the Africa twin but is this really want Honda fans want from a new 1100cc tourer today ? Anyone remember the Vfr? And let’s not get started on Honda parts. I really like this bike. Looking forward to seeing one in North America. First thing I’d do is set the bars up like a Africa Twin. I’m not sure what that would take.. 1 inch risers??
I'll reserve judgement until I try it, but I feel this will not persuade me to swop my Crosstourer dct, which tours superbly, has better luggage, massive torque from the superb V4 and shaft drive for convenience. At 250kgs with dct, the NT weighs the same as my old Dean ville. At least it has better performance.....
I have a Crosstourer dct, tried the NT, and I'm really considering the change. I will miss that V4, but the riding comfort of the NT is something else. Regarding the weight, the NT isn't light, but the gravity centre is a lot lower that the Crosstourer. The drive shaft is really the only thing that can spoil it for me...
Do 270 degree parallel twins really feel like v twins ? I have a 1000cc 90 degree V twin but have only ever ridden 360 degree parallel twins. The smaller ones were ok but from 500cc on upwards, the faster one went, the greater the arm massage that resulted.
Looks like the sort of bike as a stepping stone for people getting out of the sportsbike classes (even the sports-tourers) and who aren't ready to go for a Goldwing. I'd say, well done! The twin cylinder feel and soundtrack keeps it interesting whereas something like this with a 4-banger would be bland-heaven. Maybe this is some kind of ST1100 successor from Honda? At least in spirit?
Or for people upgrading from middle-low power tourers as nc750x to somtheing able to carry big guy from Ocean to Siberia with no doubts, despite it is land road or autobahn.
Yah, the AT heritage includes quite a bit more ground clearance than my ST1300. It looks like a good tourer for folks who might occasionally ride dirt roads.
I’m not sure what Honda is trying to do with motorcycles lately. Canceling the VFR 1200, the ST1300 and the GL1800, to replace them with bikes that I don’t know who asked for them, the CTX1300 flop, and the mini Goldwing that removed most of the comfort and luggage and weather protection and replaced it with tech and a DCT.
What do you mean cancel the GL? It's alive & kicking, in full dresser or bagger: I just bought a 2021 one. And yes, it's DCT: I wouldn't have even considered it without out it, having had an Africa Twin DCT for the last 3 years already.
@@johnmoylan7202 what you bought is definitely not a full size Goldwing. I realize they call it that but it’s more of a modern ST with a compacted flat 6 shoved in it and a bunch of electronics added. Being an owner of an 86, 92, 2010 and 2013 Goldwing I feel I know what a Goldwing should be and represent and the new one didn’t do it for me. I have no intention of buying one either to help contribute to Honda’s attempt to make it look like it’s what any Goldwing owner was asking for, I don’t believe it was. Like any Honda, I’m sure it’s great in its own right but I think (and many others) don’t find it to be a true replacement for what was offered before.
As for the DCT I think it’s a great offering for the handicapped but it takes away too much control and creates issues with low speed maneuvering due to limited or complete lack of the friction zone. I owned a VFR1200 DCT, the bike was great, the transmission was borderline awful and I hated it, had it for three months, while I realize many improvements have been made Honda is pushing it way too hard in marketing and media so people begin to think that’s what they want, when it really isn’t.

@@johnmoylan7202 we will have to agree to disagree, I’m glad you’re enjoying it though for how much those new bikes are you’d have to. I put 4,000 miles on it, to me it either shifted too early or held a gear to long and the paddle shifters were fine in the twisties except when you’re mid corner and hit the wrong button while leaned over at speed in a hairpin, upsetting the whole bike.
When I was a kid my father read me tales before sleeping, so that I would make sweet dreams, at 55 Michael Neeves tells me stories about motorcycles and it’s a day dream.
The more I hear about this bike the less excited I get. I think Honda is looking for its own niche in the boring touring category with its vanilla flavored design and performance. Perhaps I'm being over critical however it seems to me there are lots of other bikes that are more exciting to ride while still providing good comfort. As a long term owner of the ST1300, I was hoping Honda would come up with a bike that would tempt me into replacing old faithful - in 18 years of ownership I have only had to do regular maintenance. Perhaps the Yamaha Tracer 9 GT is one of those other bikes worth considering, it offers sporty performance, good comfort and Japanese reliability. Hopefully at some point I will get a chance to ride the NT1100 and form my own opinion.
Should a Honda with nomenclature of NT be a V-twin like the NT400. the NT650 and the NT700? NT did not stand for New Touring before, why does it stand for New Touring, now? This would be more accurately named the NC1100
Expensive, heavy, not as efficient and when it goes wrong it goes wrong big time and costs a fortune to fix. All that to save a 10 minute lube every 500 miles which is all modern sealed link chains need.
I love the look of it, especially in White. The small dash is for when you use the main one as a GPS and you can ride off without waiting for the main dash to load. I do think the small dash looks cheap n nasty though compared to the rest of the bike. All those buttons are very confusing, agreed.
Not smooth around town? Say what? My DCT Africa Twin reduced the fatigue of stop and go traffic immensely...compared to every bike I've owned...honorable mention to scooters. Some of your takes are like WTH??

In the end if I want a sporty look without packing panniers on a CBR, shaft drive to not bother with the chain on thousand km tours, comfort for both driver and pillion but still enough agility to have some fun R1250RS is the sole winner in the segment. But it packs a serious punch on the budget...
I guess sport tourings are dead. ADV bikes are like SUV cars in 2000s>>>
I can see selling my NC750 and upgrading to the NT1100. It sounds like MUCH more comfortable ride.
Here in Australia we only were able to buy a mk1 CBF1000. Now this bike looks very much like the mk2. I wouldn't say no to a test drive.....in the manual variant.
How is the comfort compared to a BMW R1200GS Adventure?
Took my Tracer to Bosnia(from Glasgow)...nope,not a touring bike, I downsized to the 700, now got a comfier seat
You just can't go wrong with honda. Best engineered products.
Sorry but just read again... AppleCarplay. So why retrofit something not meant for a motorcycle...
@@mathiashammar1 but it's not not meant for a bike, it's meant as an infotainment system pure and simple and has been implemented on several bikes
It's on the Africa Twin, the Goldwing and now the NT
If you don't like it, don't use it, simple as however many people do like it and do use it.
But the screen is adjustable from the outside, cruise control on the throttle side , and you always change the driving mode by accident, because you are very easily accidentally press this button.:3.27 you can't say the nt1100 is almost the same as the tracer 9Gt..The tracer is much more of a sport bike, the engine of the tracer 9gt is just more refined and faster.I wouldn't don't mind having to drive the nt1100, but as someone who likes to drive occasionally sporty, it's the tracer for me
With respect to this model, North America suffers availability envy!
As suspected. ☹️. Would have much preferred it based upon the CB1000R rather than the Africa Twin. However, it does have a centre stand!!!
Excellent review. I prefer the AT, base model. I toured extensively on a 750 RD04 in the 90s.
Seem like a good commuter/soft tourer. But like most Honda bikes nowadays it's just too vanilla for my tastes.
Still having some spirited moments, it's the new Suzuki for me...the NT seems like a good companion sort of bike.
It might be a good tour but it is no super sport tour like the Honda ST1100 or the Honda ST1300 when will Honda put out a true super sport tour like the ST1300 will it ever happen again if not Honda is doing a great disservice to the true sport tour Rider they got rid of the ST1300 they got rid of the vfr800 and the vfr1200f I would not mind paying between 15 to $20,000 for a true Super Sport tourer along the lines of the ST1300
@@Geshmaal it's not an official term it's just a term that I use when I talk about the big sport Toureres the ST1300 the FJR the Kawasaki Concours 14 the BMW r1250rt those to me are super sport Tourers it's just a term I use and it's not official
Oh stop. The ST11 is an absolute dinosaur and wouldn't get a look in in a comparison. Weight, comfort, brakes, suspension, economy, ergonomics- just for starters. The ST13 although an improvement over the ST11, is 20 years old for crying out loud.
The nearest to an ST1300 now is in fact the GL1800BD : I just bought one. Better balanced and easier to ride than an ST13 too.
Best regards from Catalonia!
Thanks michael another comprehensive , precise review
Neevesy your voice tone reflects the unremarkable view of this bike. Boring bike😀
I looked at this, decided to wait for the Rebel 1100T bagger in '23 with DCT, First reviewer(superbike journalist )being negative about gearbox? Not into gizmos, I drive a truck to Spain, so it's good to escape from all that stuff and enjoy the ride! Maybe a CL1100 version would be the best platform for me, A/T too tall?
What is it with virtually useless front mud guards on bikes these days?
The lower LCD screen is pointless…until you fire up Car Play (which consumes the TFT screen) and realize that now you’ve no idea how fast you’re going or what gear you’re in. That’s why the LCD is there, bro.
Thank you Inmate Neeves for a great review
VFR engine needs a comeback on a lighter chassis. This is a cop bike.
Agree. Would like to see the new VFR. :) Go, check my content.
Yes !
Great job with this video guys, M. nailed this report
As a tourer it needs a drive shaft, as sport-tourer it needs 50 more HP. But it will sell anyway.
It needs none of that.
@@ernieschatz3783 Sure Ernie. We don't need 100hp either. We can all do with 30-40HP and a chain. To be frank, we don't need a motorcycle at all.
Did you try the shift modes on the DCT? Sounds like you got stuck in D and didn’t even try any S modes.
Good info, interesting about the different top box capacities too, no-one else has mentioned that
I love the compariston to the CB1000F~ one of my favorites.
This bike seems to have everything I would like in my next bike. I'm waiting for it to show up here in the USA.
Won't be giving up my ST1300 for that. Honda have a lot to answer for when they stop producing the pan european. But still producing the goldwind ??
Looks like the perfect machine for touring. Lightweight easy to handle I hope it comes to the US
Thank you for another excellent expert review.
At 6'1" myself, I've yet to experience a great stock windscreen...even on a K1600GTL.
@@Speedytrip I hear you. I don’t understand why manufacturers can’t fit a decent screen from the factory and why they then charge you extra for a “comfort seat”. Why can’t the bike come with both when you purchase it?
@@Speedytrip the Concours 14 has a great screen when the bike is in stock form. The minute I put 2 inch bar risers on it, that’s when it got noisy. 6’1 here too…
It’s likely a good bike but it just seems lazy to me in so many ways. Honda have a history of such great tourers with fantastic engines. Not Knocking the engine in the Africa twin but is this really want Honda fans want from a new 1100cc tourer today ? Anyone remember the Vfr? And let’s not get started on Honda parts. I waited over a year for parts for the gold wing and they eventually arrived after i sold it.
Wish it would be in US for 2022
DCT is briiliant…
If had shaftdrive, a better screen adjustment system & some more lively colors options it would probably be My next travelling companion untill Then i stick with My lovely Crosstourer DCT.
The Power Of Dreams ❤️
I really like this bike. Looking forward to seeing one in North America. First thing I’d do is set the bars up like a Africa Twin. I’m not sure what that would take.. 1 inch risers??
I'll reserve judgement until I try it, but I feel this will not persuade me to swop my Crosstourer dct, which tours superbly, has better luggage, massive torque from the superb V4 and shaft drive for convenience. At 250kgs with dct, the NT weighs the same as my old Dean ville. At least it has better performance.....
You forgot to mention the Crosstourer's excellent fuel economy...NOT! 😅😅
How would this compare to Tracer 900GT? Looks very similar . I found the Africa Twin bulky and heavy.
Great review very informative 👍
God I wish this was in us, we have the transalp and the NC750 is always sold out
Honda should come up with a crosstourer engine and shaft drive for this one.
Huge seller that shaft drive...."cough"
Do 270 degree parallel twins really feel like v twins ? I have a 1000cc 90 degree V twin but have only ever ridden 360 degree parallel twins. The smaller ones were ok but from 500cc on upwards, the faster one went, the greater the arm massage that resulted.
They feel and sound that way.
@@michalgruca1 I know this chassis is essentially a road-biased rejiggering of the Africa Twin.
@@Kwhopperfan you clearly didn't keep the DCT long enough to learn how to use it. It out performs a 'manual', even going slow: ua-cam.com/video/9qCpkyfkQ-4/v-deo.html or this: ua-cam.com/video/9qCpkyfkQ-4/v-deo.html
Looks lame but very practical, missing adaptive cruise control....
Looking into a new bike here, this is at the top of the list, I wish there was a hint if it’s arriving in the US or if I should move on.
Now if only if Honda will release to USA ...
When I was a kid my father read me tales before sleeping, so that I would make sweet dreams, at 55 Michael Neeves tells me stories about motorcycles and it’s a day dream.
Great review! When i get older I'll think of Honda but I'll stick with my 2015 Kawasaki Concours 14 for a wile. Cheers mate!!
Such a clear review that covers most of the bases. Did he mention the handling?
really good review as usual good imfo
Excellent review!
Thanks MCN. Great job. Good info. God bless. Happy trails.
Should a Honda with nomenclature of NT be a V-twin like the NT400. the NT650 and the NT700? NT did not stand for New Touring before, why does it stand for New Touring, now? This would be more accurately named the NC1100
Do you know if the TFT allows both rider and passenger Bluetooth helmet connections?
Great looking bike.I wish they fitted it with shaft drive.
Expensive, heavy, not as efficient and when it goes wrong it goes wrong big time and costs a fortune to fix. All that to save a 10 minute lube every 500 miles which is all modern sealed link chains need.
So Honda have built the 'Zimmer frame' of touring bikes?
Great review thank you sir 👍🏍
I did 6000 km this summer day in day out on a Ninja H2, let me just tell you my body felt that 😄
Just trade 'er in on the H2SX!
@@ernieschatz3783 it may be practical, but i hate the looks of it.
I hope it comes in red like my 1998 Honda Pacific Coast! If not, hmmmm will have to go with black.
Should have been based on the CB1000R to be classed as a Sport Tourer. As it is, it's just a Tourer.
When will we ever see one in the US?
I have to ask: in the intro footage riding up through the twisties, had someone put one of the bikes into the culvert?
I see the person walking but is there a wrecked bike in the shot? Maybe they are operating the drone.
Id love this bike, but Honda still hasn't announced it for the Canadian market.
i hope it comes to the US
This bike needs a shaft drive.
If you want less performance and more weight🤨
Nobody buys an NT for performance. Shaft drive would make it class leading. Police forces around the world crying outvfor a middleweight shaftie
Nice bike... i would go for that for sure...
Really hope this isn’t meant to fill the shoes of the VFR. To my knowledge, Honda hasn’t said that’s what it’s meant to do, so my fingers are crossed
I love the look of it, especially in White. The small dash is for when you use the main one as a GPS and you can ride off without waiting for the main dash to load. I do think the small dash looks cheap n nasty though compared to the rest of the bike. All those buttons are very confusing, agreed.
Im hoping it comes to North America.
Nice honest review. Thank you. 👍😎🇦🇺
Did you try dct sport 1,2,3 modes?
Not smooth around town? Say what? My DCT Africa Twin reduced the fatigue of stop and go traffic immensely...compared to every bike I've owned...honorable mention to scooters. Some of your takes are like WTH??
Wish it was the smaller Transalp they brought out.
So they put a Casio watch 1:46 under the TFT screen 🤣, guess is latest collaboration...looks like a mini goldwing with all those buttons 1:38 .counted 12 on left thumb 🤭.
