I'm about 80+ sessions into a homebrew campaign that all started because of a map I drew after being inspired by one of your map making videos. Starting small and letting the world grow in complexity is good advice. Even if you end up with a little inconsistency or plot holes along the way, if the party is having fun and making memories at the table, that's what counts
Dude the way you explained where Windsong Woods came from is exactly how I've always been too. It's like yes, I am inspired by lots of cool, pre-existing stories and media, but I also just get inspiration from random words, phrases, scenery, etc. I can't tell you how many times I've done exactly what you did, just be driving by some place and see an interesting name and think "Wow, that would be a cool tavern" or "That would be an awesome name for a monster" or whatever.
The point is that you developed a new way of rpg design which is looking lighthearted at first glance but it points in the right direction how ttrpgs should be designed to be actually playable from the book. You got sth there and I am proud to be a long time supporter of your works. ❤
Dude these are amazing tips! For years now, your content inspires me to create new things and develop skills I didn't have before! Thanks for making the world around you such a cooler place, JP!
I'm really looking forward to getting my little home-brew world ready. I started watching your map videos and decided that I was just going to go for it. I have about 65% of a campaign ready.
Sounds like SOMEONE needs a setting bible! Also you don't need a whole setting all at once. Start with a blank hexmap (not a hex crawl this is just for navigation!) and have the town or location the party starts in some points of interest. I'd have the general deities involved but maybe only focus on a few local ones and some "pagan" gods worshipped my rural or forest folk be the heroes or true gods. Also you dont need to build your campaign WIDE build it TALL. maybe the blocked off tunnel behind the book case in the root cellar of the tavern leads to the 2nd or 3rd floor of a nearby ruin or dungeon. Interconnecting cave systems might have been ancient highways of the dwarfen folk fallen into disrepair.
Hi JP! Can't wait to get the box set in my hands. I was wondering...would you be willing to make a video for people that don't have a group to play with so that solo players can enjoy Dragon Town and the Darkness Below as well? Like solo rules to enjoy the adventure?
The beauty of solo is you can choose any system/tools to help you. I learned how to solo watching Trevor on “Me, Myself, and Die” and Kelsey on her “Solodark” oracle. Once you pick a rule set you are good to go! Hope you find something
@@RPG_BlissHey thanks, currently using October for a bunch of spooky one shots, mostly run by another GM in my group. I will be doing a Strahd one shot if I manage to prep it this week! Then back to my DCC campaign :)
@@BobWorldBuilder oh nice! You convinced me to do a DCC funnel which was epic. We are playing ezd6 atm and then the plan is to continue DCC with the level 1 survivors. It’s hard to pick a system some times with so many options.
Not from a jerk place, but I hope some groups don't defeat the darkness below. Gives the GM something new to do. If I were a player and we failed, I would want to roll up new PCs to take over and finish.
@@matiasnl I suggest the same to you. Realize that I had the same indoctrination as you. I now know more about the globe model than I ever did in school.

Gather round, everyone. JP is talking about his World and it's great as always, Listen to him being exciting about it.
Good stuff! I never even considered NOT naming the worlds we play in. Such a simple thing, but it does so much for immersion. Great ideas as always.

Really appreciate that!!!
Man, your mind is really something else, sir! Really creative! Just binge watched your videos!
Start with ever so slightly more matter than antimatter. That'll really get their goose in a dozen of billion years or so.
I am wearing the same shirt watch this!! 100% Fantasy

JP is one of the best art teachers!
The real horror is when the fun art is peeled back and reveals a darker truth being hidden to keep you feeling happy and placid!
Worldbuilding video! Someday I’m gonna have my own setting!

Thankyou, I adore your videos, and your advice is great! Let things grow a little bit at a time! ❤

Congrats on an amazing kick starter! Love your content
These are some great tips just for general story telling. I'm working on making a comic/novel/story and this actually helps quite a bit.
9:30 Maybe the world is named after Flik Silverpen. 😄 And all your zines are in his universe.

Dragon town is system agnostic, you could run it with solodark no problem!
Check out the Night Noon Games channel. Michael has a video playing Dragon Town solo up already!

That book looks great!
This is so VERY cool, JP.
Thanks dude! ❤️
Yeahhhhh babyyyy!
Any thoughts on making a T-shirt with that cover art? Asking for a friend 😅
Probably not the cover art, but definitely want to do some shirts sometime soon!

Will the box set be available afterwords, or just the book?
It will be!

I build worlds on a flat surface , since we do not live on a ball 😊
😅 I recommend doing more research on that topic!
