The world of The Witcher expands in this anime origin story: Before Geralt, there was his mentor Vesemir a swashbuckling young witcher who escaped a life of poverty to slay monsters for coin. But when a strange new monster begins terrorizing a politically-fraught kingdom, Vesemir finds himself on a frightening adventure that forces him to confront the demons of his past.

Coin, however, maybe his reason to throw himself into danger, but it can’t be the only thing that sustains him. Not when the world grows darker and its monsters grow hungrier. He’ll learn that in his latest mission, paired with a sorceress named Tetra, to stop whatever has been terrorizing a town. The threat won’t be like anything Vesemir has ever faced before

Making her an antagonist was so unexpected, i thought she was going to be the love interest, well anywho it was better that way, it made her a much more interesting character

This is animation at it's finest. It's actually higher grade then castlevanyia only cause there was more detail to the characters and the animation remained smooth the hole time.

Vesimer is the perfect combination of rage and skill. Like you can tell he’s at the end of his rope but he’s just got to kill this witch. He’s at his breaking point but he’s just that experienced he uses rage as fuel. This fight was the best moment in the movie.

Damn they really got me with that twist.
I almost feel like the twist deafens the impact of this fight. I like to think that some parts of it actually happened, like killing the guards, the whole fight (Except killing tetra), adn throwing the elf.
I loved the way the fight looked but I am having trouble imagining the point of view of the other characters.
He thought he was fighting Tetra but he was actually fighting the other mage who helped make witchers. So was that mage shooting arrows at Vesemir? Was he actually deflecting magic bolts but her illusion made them look like arrows? What did the mage think was going on? Was he fighting an illusion or just a tricked up Vesemir? And why would Tetra wait for the illusion to end before shooting him with an arrow?

@@cmilla111 but that wouldn't make any sense considering the height at which he flung his sword to behead her considering the mage was tied up and kneeling on the ground. maybe he was standing up out of fright because vesemir was under an illusion but then he wouldn't have had to fight so hard to get to that point. its makes no damn sense.

Makes sense that in real life they would be moving a bit like this. Obviously this took a bit of Anime influence. But in my eyes it was pretty accurate

1:04 - 1:14 Idk what it is about this particular sequence but I love how they animated it! The shot of it paning around them and the way it moves just looks so cool!

When i first watched it i honestly thought the witcher was gonna kill Tetra with the first blow so i kept thinking “IT’S GONNA BE THE NEXT HIT!” After every single scene, but the she kept evading, and then teleporting him. Never thought using a transportation system like that could be creatively used so defensively.

(Spoilers) So, after finding out that the two people he killed were actually his friends I started to question when the characters swapped. When was there time to switch places with his friends, and I’m gonna try walking through things to see if someone else can figure it out. The swap had to happen after she said the line “you were only a child how were you to know” because 1) it’s the last time in the fight we hear her speak and 2) she hadn’t started losing the fight yet so there was no reason to swap. It had to have happened sometime he expected to see magic or just sometime when his back was turned. My working theory is it happened around the time when she started using portals/going even more on the defensive. She had seemed to be holding her own and one spell or arrow when he was in the air would’ve finished him, but instead she went with a defensive move. It’s also a time when he would’ve expected to see magic so the swap between people wouldn’t have been as obvious. I don’t know, if someone knows the answer, or I’m just being dumb, please tell me.
A little late so you may have already learned since it's been almost a year but that whole sequence was an illusion created by Kitsu. Tetra, while powerful, doesn't have the power capable of swapping people like that in the middle of a fight against a young, even weakened from fighting, Witcher. Having Kitsu use her enhanced illusion abilities for that was all part of her plan, even though it did end up backfiring.

Maybe the fight was an Illusion since kitsu put him onto the spell ? As soon as Vesemir started to get out of this spell she herself "discarded" it because of his rage.
So his rage was fuel for this illusion ? I mean sheer hatred is the best illusion a human EVEN a witcher can face. :o

@@ststes To be fair, Mages in Witcher aren't like most people. And a lot of times they can be arrogant and petty because they believe the suffering they endured to become powerful makes them entitled to their petty whims. Obviously not all Mages are like that, but they have a tendency to be. The same way Witchers can be arrogant pricks in the way they go about collecting their coin, as we've seen from Vesemir and Deglan in the film. Most people wouldn't leave a traumatized child alone in the woods in the middle of winter, but Vesemir did, and most people wouldn't experiment on children to create a crisis resulting in mass death just to maintain their income, but Deglan did. Not all Mages and Witchers are like Deglan and Tetra, but the way they were raised and trained can easily turn someone into the monsters the two of them became.

Tetra was a formidable opponent, they should've expanded her character more.
They did vesemir dirty in the show, actually they did everyone dirty, they didn't have such good showcases of power and fighting ability in the show, there where many times when the witchers wouldn't dodge predictable attacks or when they get knocked out in 1 hit, even geralt who was the only one that was given time to shine didn't get such a cool fight.

Tetra could easy destroy this whole castle by one big spell, but i asume, she wanted to saw in FACE wticher death, which kill her mother, and maybe even rape her (we can asume, this because she in some scene told about, when as kid, she dont know, that witcher easy coudl hear her hiding in the wardrobe, and she was find out). so... (and lets be fair. animators just wanted show us that mages can be baddas fighters to... when... its not common. From Books only Vilgefrotz was baddas meele fighter)

Actually nope. Magic power varies and more powerful complex spells usually require rituals or artifacts with high chance of misfiring if done wrong and is very mentally and physically draining. Plus in order to pull off such a spell you need places of power(magical landmines underneath ground). In books it is implied that if a place is brimming with violent magical energy you only need a certain amount of magic to disrupt the magical balance and cause an explosion. That is a prime reason, u see magic is more of science than a weapon. You need to be a highly skilled mage in combat like Tetra to even be able to withstand a witcher like Vesemir
Yknow, at first i thought Tetra was a bit of a B, but when you take into account her origin, what Vesemir does throughout the movie and the whole conspiracy the Witchers school here was involved in, you realize she's honestly rather justified lmao.

I love the fact that CD Projekt’s new DLC quest in the witcher 3 eitch contains the Season 2 geralt armor has a story telling that the armor is a prototype and that past witchers used it. And Vesemirs armor in the anime looked similar to the one you get in the game and it also make sense because of Vesemirs age.
i honestly want CD-PR Red to make a game about Vesemir. It would let them go back in the lore written about the world, and work within those confines. Writing an honest and good story about him.

If it weren't for the monsters Tetra summoned those townsfolk would've been massacred. But im glad that they did because it shows the mortality of witchers despite their reputation.
Not so sure though. In books most witchers being slaughtered by angry mob consists of peasants, mages and some knights without any monster. In original story witchers are not supposed to be this op

Here the monsters were approaching in a narrow column since they had to cross the bridge, this negating their numbers advantage.
All is good but one issue. It doesn't belong in The Witcher universe. Any other name in any other fantasy setting and it's a great animated show. But when it's The Witcher - hundred problems arise.

Witchers only dabble in basic magic, that’s why mages can be very deadly even to a witcher. The odd part though is in Witcher 2 and 3 mages get slaughtered by witch hunters and soldiers who are normal compared to a Witcher makes you wonder huh
@@thealphaomega4888That is cause they use surprise attacks and dimetrium shackles - once those are on they are powerless. One mistake and everyone gets slaughtered.
This is why witch hunters were so many. The casuality rate was ridiculous.

Hmm.. I was wondering when the switch happened. This is just my assumption.. but if I am wrong, do let me know. :)
It seems that the purple fog spell at 1:20 is like a pre-requisite for the illusion to work. The fog caused Vesemir to temporarily lose sight/focus of the combat and the illusion will only be invoked through physical pain/wound. Because at 1:26, the arrow (which is probably coated with some sort of hallucination-inducing poison) scratched/wounded Vesemir and caused him to be trapped in the illusion of combat with Tetra.
Reidrich used the portal spell to avoid fighting Vesemir but Vesemir's bloodlust was too powerful until he killed (Tetra) Reidrich and (Kitsu) Illyana.
That “blue fog spell” is an portal just like the others where you mentioned reidrich did that. So I don’t know if this is the case
And tetra can’t make illusions, it’s all kitsu .
