The German Empire was never dissolved officially, which correlates to why Germany was called 'Das Deutsches Reich.' It's why Germany was never historically called "Das Deutsches Kaiserreich," why do you think that no sources ever referred to it as a Kaiserreich at any time until lately? The German Empire was the Deutsches Reich, and the politicians who declared the German Republic simply didn't take into account that the Reich had to be dissolved, not un-declared. The German Empire officially went out of being when the Deutsches Reich was dissolved by the allies after World War II. Furthermore, the dissolution of Prussia officially ended the term 'Empire' after the constitution of the German Empire stated that Prussia and Germany were inseparable.
If the series used the terms like "Großdeutsches Reich" or "Reichskommissariat Amerika", like was planned originally, it would have a lot more sense.
So that's why they used "Empire." Empire/Realm = Reich in German.
It makes senses. American called them Nazi. And it stuck

Yes I remember reading that William Shirer was told to stop using the word Nazi when he was in Berlin. Also there were as many Sozis who disliked their nickname as the Nazis who wanted to keep saying National Socialist. The word used for the Americans invading Germany was Amis... Churchill.was actually mocked for not being able to say Nazi properly and indeed people who hold to the fascism that merged national with the social do not use this abbreviation with all the wrong overtones. I think the point of this scene is to show the minut differences between us and the man in the high castle universe. If they got rid of the uniforms and swatzikas you would be unable to tell the difference between the two. You can see the lives and emotional figures of these people. Even if they are nazis they have similar problems to us. Like crush’s and last minute crunching for an exam. And these worlds aren’t scary for the death and ideologies, there scary for the small things like this.
This was pretty much a reality before WW2. There were no negative connotations associated with the Nazis.

Italy was the weakest Axis power by far. It was no match to Japan or Germany. It would've certainly been completely conquered by the Germans in the case of world domination.
Considering that they backstabbed the Soviet Union, helping Italy is only in their interests short term. There's no such thing as a true ally if your goal is world domination. Germany and Japan would've certainly faced each other off as in the show.
One thing that really bothers me about this show is that they call the Reich the “Nazi Empire” instead of the “German Empire” which is the historically accurate term
Maybe the Nazi empire is referring to all of the German territories as well. We see that the US holds similar autonomy as, say, a colony. With locals being put in charge rather than Germans. So maybe the German empire is only referring to the European Germany. While the colonies + Germany is called the nazi empire

Probably one of my favourite glimpses into that world. The history books in it are written by the winner. Same as in our reality, every single bad thing done by the Nazis is brought to light, while Stalin's repressions and the American slavery isn't given nearly enough attention by the history books in Russia and the US respectively. In the show, they barely talk about the genocide (only a couple of characters mentions it in passing), yet every bad thing about the US history is brought to light.

Its based on The Man In The High Castle novel, its a world where Japan and Germany achive world domination
