My parents were married for 72 years when my father passed. My mother never knew he died, every time she asked for him, I told her he was outside and would be back in when he got hungry. I'm so grateful that the man she loved from the time she was 17 yrs old was able to stay 'with' her, until she passed.
My hubby plays guitar and sings to me i am in hospice care the pain is lessen when he sings to me his voice is very soothing. He cries a lot he doesn't know i see it but i see the tears in his eyes. new yrs eve is our 46th anniversary i probably will not make it that long. awesome reaction.
@p.j.morris Every remaining moment is a priceless gift. Take what joy you can find and express your love for one another. These memories are the hardest and most precious. I've been there...
This did choke me up. In 1973 I saw a rock band and met the lead guitar player. We were married 18 months later and this October is our 50th anniversary. He nursed me through a cancer battle in 2020 and 2021 and never left my side.
This song was our wedding song. Married 10 years before my wife passed away. I wept each time I hear this song but not tears of sadness but happiness because I remember all the beautiful times we had together
Although one cannot tell from this lovely song, Peter Gabriel has been one of the most influential musicians in Rock Music, since his early 1970s days as the lead singer of the band, Genesis, They helped define Progressive Rock and are generally considered second only to Pink Floyd, in the genre. The 1980s were dominated by Gabriel's sonic experimentation, and the Big Drum Sound associated most with Phil Collins, and used by almost every band of that decade, was created while recording Peter's 3rd solo album. He is brilliant and original and he helped invent Theatrical Rock, along with David Bowie and Alice Cooper. Peter's 1993 tour for the album "Us" is one of the greatest concert tours ever filmed. He had help staging it from French Canadian Theatre director, Robert Lepage, a mover in the Avant-Garde. The show's two stages constantly evolve to help show the concert's themes. One of the recently popular Reaction videos has been "In Your Eyes". from this "Secret World Live" tour, shot in Italy. Gabriel teams with Paula Cole in this show, for the song "Blood of Eden". One of the most dynamic, exciting and weird numbers in this concert is the closer, "Secret World". ---OronOfMontreal
For me, 1970s British prog rock formed around Pink Floyd, King Crimson, Yes, Jethro Tull, and Genesis. Gabriel's first solo LP included the song, "Solsbury Hill", somewhat giving his feelings about life toward the end of his time in that band. ua-cam.com/video/WeYqJxlSv-Y/v-deo.html I've been fortunate to hear Peter Gabriel in concert in 1983, 2001, 2016 (sharing the bill with Sting's band), and 2023. In terms of movie songs, Peter Gabriel sang the closer to Pixar/Disney film WALL-E, with the credit images portraying the history of human visual arts in the first two minutes. ua-cam.com/video/hscu7cc1_2Y/v-deo.html
Thank you for doing this song! My mom recently passed, just after her 92nd birthday. She and Dad had been married 75 years. He is still with us, he is 95. This is his "year of firsts" - first Mother's Day, Father's Day, Anniversary Day, etc - without her. I wish I would have known about this song, and I would have played it at Mom's service last June. She passed on February 21, with dad holding her hand.
I always dreamed of growing old with my love. I was 27 when we married, what a wonderful, beautiful loving life we had. I lost him August 27,1996 I was 49 About 10 years later I found someone that I wanted to be with, it wasn't the same but very good relationship,I just turned 60. We did a lot fun things we cared about each other ,this was good. On August 27,2022 he passed away. I am 77 now I am growing old alone.
This song is on the soundtrack of the film Shall We Dance with Richard Gere and Susan Sarandon. I leak a few tears every time every time it pops up in the film.
My friend, David, married at 40 to a woman who was 14 years older than him. After she died, I asked him if he had ever felt the age difference. His answer : "Dorothy was always 18 to me." His love for her never died. When he was dying, he thought I was Dorothy. So, I pretended i was. I hope it eased his passing.
This song is actually a cover. The original is by The Magnetic Fields. Peter Gabriel had this project where in one album he cover artists (Scratch my back), and in the following album they cover his songs (And I'll Scratch Yours).
I came here to say this. Thanks for beating me to it. I actually love both versions of this song. The original is sparse and unsentimental, which is a lovely take. This is lush and sentimental and also a lovely take.
This song is amazing and was written by the indie band The Magnetic Fields lead by Stephin Merritt, performed also beautifully by Peter Gabriel in his cover's album Scratch My Back
This is the song during the emotional scene at the end of "Shall We Dance" starring Richard Gere, Susan Sarandon, and Jennifer Lopez. If you like this song, you will like that movie. So sit down and watch it together if you haven't seen it.
My favorite lines from that movie are the one where Susan Sarandon talks about 'you get married so that you can have a witness to your life', and the part at the end where Richard Gere tells her she knows how to dance with him cuz they've been dancing together for all those years. Beautiful film. I remember watching it being really afraid that it was going to be another older man with younger woman type of thing, and instead it became this beautiful thing that I had not expected given the way movies generally go and I was so pleasantly surprised.
I'm 83 years old. I've learned raising children is exhausting loving fun. Grand children is great fun but now I have two beautiful granddaughters and it is incredible fun and I'm youthing.❤
One of my all time favourite songs! Glad you listened to it! Though it’s a cover of The Magnetic Fields, he made it his own. The live version is excellent.
Beautiful video. I just wanted to give credit where credit is due: 'The Book of Love' is written by Stephin Merritt and originally recorded and released by his band The Magnetic Fields along with 68 other simple love songs on their great opus "69 Love Songs" from 1999. Check it out, folks. Most of the tunes you'll soon forget, but I bet a couple of them will speak directly to your soul and, I've found, you never know which.
I was just about to say this - there are some songs that still randomly pop into my head from from this collection even after all these years. Some are ridiculous (Let's Pretend We're Bunny Rabbits, Luckiest Guy on the Lower East Side) but others are really touching (Nothing Matters When We're Dancing, Asleep and Dreaming).
In Robert Heinlein's book, "Stranger in a Strange Land", the main character is Mike Smith, a man who was raised from infacy on the planet Mars, by the beings who inhabited it, so he is only human in form, but not at all in self or soul. When he finally journeys to Earth, nothing makes any sense to him, and humans seem impossibly mad in many ways. One of the things that he never understands is the human affinity for youth. To him, individuality comes only with experience, so beauty can only come with age, as every being grows _into_ their beauty, acquiring more and more of it as they acquire more and more life. At one point, he says all young people "have the same face; how could it be otherwise?" I've always loved that idea, that we are blank slates that life slowly engraves with beauty, the marks on our skin a map of who we are and where we've been. A map without lines tells you nothing at all, while the more details there are, the fuller the image.
@@johnathannelson6195 It's an amazing book. It has its problems, sure. Some of it would be objectionable today. But a lot of it is deep and thought-provoking, and very much worth a read.
You and your wife are speaking of your child, the joy, and the exhaustion… It’s beautiful, and precious, and in no way do I mean to take away from that. The thing is, I met my sweetheart at rollerskating and we dated for 11 years, then married. Love was so fresh, then the miracle of raising a family together comes along. Our children are our life, yet we lost “us” over the years. Yes, the book was written very long ago, things were all too young to know( what curveballs life will throw at us),… I am crying now because of the line that says, You ought to give me wedding rings. The wedding ring was the promise to cherish one another till one of us takes our last breath on earth, but I have not been loved for a very long time, so this beautiful song hurts my heart for what should be… While raising children remember that special love was there between one another, or one day, like me, you may wonder where it has gone…💔
You can do such a deep dive into Peter Gabrielle’s back catalogue and you won’t be disappointed, games without frontiers, shock the monkey, Biko (both album and playing for change versions), sledgehammer, don’t give up, big time, in your eyes, digging in the dirt, steam, blood of Eden, washing of the water, kiss that frog and there’re so many more. He’s really up there with the all time greats!
First time seeing your videos, but just looking at you both I thought "they've got that light" - if you know you know! Great video Brother and Sister Duran 🙂 My wife and I celebrate our 25 year reunion next week...we'll be listening to this together.
My lovely bride and I have been married for 51 years, and I believe that we love each other more today than ever. During my career years she raised 3 kids during the day, while I got the opportunity to help with them (and take care of things around the house, and maintain our transportation). Since 5 years ago when she had her first stroke, she has been mostly wheelchair bound. I had a job that allowed me to work from home for 2 years while caring for her, and since retiring 3 years ago, my life is dedicated to caring for her. I count this time as a privilege and an honor to serve her, for she sacrificed a lifetime living the ups and downs of life with me. Our idea of retirement was so much different in our youth, but God knew better and we both enjoy our retirement just spending our time together.
I hade the chance to meet him 2 times due to a book wrote by my husband. He’s very nice and kind. We shared a common friend that just passed away and I’m sure Peter is very sad right now. Richard, we’ll all miss you so much ❤
I fell in love with him at 13 years old, the day I met him I told my girlfriend I was going to marry him some day...he was 14, and three years later we got married. He was my first in every way, here we are 50 years later and more in love every second. We need to be in each other's arms constantly. We wake up holding hands. Now, our 3 boys have grown and gone, given us 9 grandchildren, and 2 great-granddaughters, and it is just us again..now we just pray that God takes us together and we can die in each other's arms. He is my life, my love, and my reason for living. I cannot breathe without him.
Peter Gabriel's music is so deep & profound. In Your Eyes was famously played in the movie with John Cusak called "Say Anything" where he famously held the boom box over his head. Another incredible ing is Red Rain. Just check out all his music, especially Sledgehammer! Enjoy & thanks for your videos.
Peter Gabriel made a huge catalogue after leaving Genesis mid seventies. Among the noteworthy songs are Solsbury Hill, Here Comes the Flood, Biko, Sledgehammer, Games without Frontiers, Don't Give Up (with Kate Bush), In Your Eyes.
New subscriber here, and I’m loving your reactions, your application of music theory and lyrical analysis, and the clear passion you have for all forms of music…period. The first time I heard this song, I balled my eyes out too. Same with the 100th time. So glad I can come experience these songs all over again with you! Also…I’m Italian, my husband’s Mexican, we love this song together, and we also love Scrubs! So shout out to your wife…she’s not lying, it’s an amazing show. Bill Lawrence (Ted Lasso) is the creator. Keep rocking!
We recently celebrated our 56th anniversary. We met in high school and have been a couple since we were 17. Tonight I made his favorite meal, sang an old song later and then just settled in to read and think about the next week.
Love PG's music. I am kinda surprised people this age, haven't heard his music. Gensis was in their parents time. My son knows lots of music from this era. He's 40. ?
Heard this first in a scene of the movie Shall We Dance with Richard Gere. It’s a beautiful scene and one of the most wonderfully placed scene-music ever IMO.
Gotts to hear his early vocals!! The SLEDGE HAMMER video and SALISBURY HILL,,,,, BIG TIME,,, GAMES WITHOUT FRONTIERS and RED RAIN are of the top of the list!! Peace 🕊️☮️♾️😎
Great to see that you are getting to know PG mastery, he was in super mega band Genesis! With Phil Collins, you should look for "The Carpet Crawlers" with both PG and PC. Amazing! Thanka
Hey folks, great to see you find this. The song Book of Love was written by Lou Reed for his partner, Laurie Anderson - both non-mainstream musicians / artists. Reed of ‘Take a walk on the wild side’. Anderson was a performance artist who become known in the early 80s. Gabriel and Anderson did projects together back in the day and this version of the song was part of an overt trading songs project. It was Gabriel sharing back to two friend. Very touching on many levels. But then, that’s Gabriel.
I'm not sure if you're talking about a different song. The "Book of Love" song featured in this video was written by Stephin Merritt from the group "The Magnetic Fields." Peter Gabriel's cover of it appeared on the soundtrack to "Shall We Dance" in 2004.
The Lou Reed song is The Power of the Heart. It is also the Scratch My Back album. Here is the live version ua-cam.com/video/Hnzq125YK5I/v-deo.htmlsi=6ohD4BZLDSqqTl6M I
Marisa and I have been married 55 years. We have lived active lives in many different places. This song is a great tribute to long marriages. Yesterday was our anniversary and we went shopping, hand in hand, for some medical equipment that she needed and afterward we went out to eat Thai food. She's my girl and always has been. When I was in Vietnam, she wrote me every day and sent me pictures of our infant child.
Since I first heard you talk about how much you and Ali were soul mates I've wanted you to listen to Leonard Cohen's (Hallelujah) "Dance Me To The End Of Love". It's beautiful, powerful love song. I love it! You will love it! And Ali will adore it! Please trust me.
After watching your channel for a while now seeing you together and when Seb is by himself/surrounded by Ali's love which flows from his heart your dream of being that old couple still holding hands later in life is sure to come true....may God continue to bless you and your family on life's journey....my folks have 63 years logged it that book and still going strong together....Karl from eastern Canada...P.S. you should watch Nick Edwards bgt audition where he sings daddy's little girls...even if you watch it off camera you will be moved by it....thanks
It amazes me how one day your children are running around the house and the next your watching your grandchildren running around the house. My husband and I have been together since 74. I was a freshman he was a senior in high school. I can not imagine a single day without him. We are both retired and get to spend the rest of our lives chilling together on a permanent staycation. Appreciate every single day. Boring is peaceful.
My wife and I have been married almost 35 years and love this song, very say he was thinking of us when he wrote it. I wish I could show you a picture of us.
You need to deep dive into Gabriel's back catalog. "Shock the Monkey," "Games Without Frontiers," "Solsbury Hill," "Red Rain," "Mercy St." etc, etc, etc.
You need to react to “Talk to Me” Peter wrote for his daughter after he separated from his wife and Melissa wasn’t talking to him, there’s two live versions out there, one with Paula Cole and one with his daughter, both great!
I never saw the ending to 'Scrubs'. I am a big Peter Gabriel fan, but have never heard this song. I love 'In Your Eyes' (the one you reviewed before) but if you judge Gabriel on only these two, you have no idea who this man is. Sure, his reverence for life and insistence on taking responsibility for actions is a huge part of him, but until you see his performance art with Genesis or his 'Sledgehammer' video or his protest songs against Apartheid, you have no idea. The dude is a creative genius with political and social points of view that are humanistic yet spiritual. He walks his talk.
If you like this one, you should watch "I Remember What We Thought Love Was" by David Phelps with your wife. One of the best (if not THE best) tenor on the planet. Great song and the last line is fantastic. He also does a song called "Hello Beautiful" (tear jerker), that you should check out.
Well it's even more sad because it's becoming more and more rare that people even make it together to be old together. So it's just beautiful to see it. For example. I'm a 44 year old man single with no children. For me it's probably the most beautiful thing I'll ever see but I chose this life because of how the world changed for the worst from my youth. You just don't have people in this particular country that are good and loyal to one another anymore. It's as rare as a white whale it feels like. People think they have it but unfortunately to many keep dark secrets from one another. We as a society have failed our children of these opportunities to have trust and loyalty love and family. When my grandparents died I lost that one piece of my life that was pure and real. Not even my own parents had what they ( my grandparents) had. Once social media hit that pretty much sealed the deal because people started filming and sharing their secrets and true selves. So when we all started to see just how the other sex actually think feel and operate the division could not have grown further apart. Men going their own way is a huge sign of the times so love like this song just feels like a unicorn anymore
I refused to use the word genius for an artist until I heard and saw Peter Gabriel. No one else has combined audio + visual like him. You should try I Grieve, Blood Of Eden and The Barry Williams Show.
Hes done some real upbeat bangers too, like Shock the Monkey, I Have The Touch, Sledgehammer, and Solsbury Hill. But if you prefer his world music, check out San Jacinto or Biko.

Peter Gabriel was the lead singer for Genesis when he left Phil Collins took over
If they don't know who Peter Gabriel is, letting them know who Phil Collins and Genesis is is gonna sound like Charlie Brown:s teacher.
@@carbine090909 what's your point everybody don't know who Genesis is and Peter Gabriel and Phil Collins is that's stupid
@@carbine090909 Fair.. but they have to learn and isn't filling them the whole point of the comments ?
Peter Gabriel's music is so deep & profound. In Your Eyes was famously played in the movie with John Cusak called "Say Anything" where he famously held the boom box over his head. Another incredible ing is Red Rain. Just check out all his music, especially Sledgehammer! Enjoy & thanks for your videos.
Oh goodie! This is where i see you eat yout words" i dont think he's singing this" im so happy. Love you 😍
Peter Gabriel made a huge catalogue after leaving Genesis mid seventies. Among the noteworthy songs are Solsbury Hill, Here Comes the Flood, Biko, Sledgehammer, Games without Frontiers, Don't Give Up (with Kate Bush), In Your Eyes.
Your channel has really improved so much by you guys teaming up. Follow this rabbit hole, please! Give us more!!!
You're not alone Sebs it takes a man to show his emotions. I'm 74 been married for 53 years and I understand.
BY FAR, my favorite Peter Gabriel song. Like fine wine, he just got better with time.
I am crying too! Beautiful song.
I lost my heart, 13 years ago after 40 and more years together.
I had forgotten how much I love this song🥲♥️
The greatest voice in Rock history.
This is true.
Amen. Peter Gabriel was the soundtrack to my life in my late teens.
É,sempre foi e será
Love PG's music. I am kinda surprised people this age, haven't heard his music. Gensis was in their parents time. My son knows lots of music from this era. He's 40. ?
His voice haunts you in a wonderful way
Heard this first in a scene of the movie Shall We Dance with Richard Gere. It’s a beautiful scene and one of the most wonderfully placed scene-music ever IMO.
The live version of In Your Eyes is one of the best videos to do a reaction to. It was huge.
Gotts to hear his early vocals!! The SLEDGE HAMMER video and SALISBURY HILL,,,,, BIG TIME,,, GAMES WITHOUT FRONTIERS and RED RAIN are of the top of the list!! Peace 🕊️☮️♾️😎
This was good. Thank you for it. That is all.
i heard this song for the first time on scrubs too been listening ever since
This song was also featured in the movie “Shall We Dance?” With Richard Geer and Susan Serandon.
Great to see that you are getting to know PG mastery, he was in super mega band Genesis! With Phil Collins, you should look for "The Carpet Crawlers" with both PG and PC. Amazing! Thanka
It's a cover from The Magnetic Fields.
I love Peter Gabriel. I either never heard this song before or completely forgot it. Interesting. Thanks for sharing.
What a lovely song. Thanks.
The way he looks at her @ 4:11. Beautiful.
Just a beautiful reminder ❤
What a great song. If I recall correctly, was used in a movie called “Shall we dance”. So beautiful.
the song is also usen in the film "shall we dance" with richard Gere and sudan surandon
@@brentpeebles4564 I stand very much corrected. Not sure where I got the link to Reed / Anderson!
@@brentpeebles4564 I stand very much corrected. Not sure how I connected this song with that story!
The Lou Reed song is The Power of the Heart. It is also the Scratch My Back album. Here is the live version ua-cam.com/video/Hnzq125YK5I/v-deo.htmlsi=6ohD4BZLDSqqTl6M I
A song with a similar message that always gets to me is “Garden of Remembrance” by Fish. Simply beautiful.
You have a good heart Sebs. Gives me hope for the younger generation.
True love!💕
Somebody's going to cry somebody if not both of you this is great man
Since I first heard you talk about how much you and Ali were soul mates I've wanted you to listen to Leonard Cohen's (Hallelujah) "Dance Me To The End Of Love".
Love is knowing if you can't find the TV remote, go look in the fridge.
My wife and I have been married almost 35 years and love this song, very say he was thinking of us when he wrote it. I wish I could show you a picture of us.
I’ve known about Peter Gabriel for decades but I’ve never heard this song. Totally different than what I’m used to from him.
Next on the " lump in throat " watch should be Leonard Cohen " Dance Me to The End of Love" Beautiful love song.
You need to deep dive into Gabriel's back catalog. "Shock the Monkey," "Games Without Frontiers," "Solsbury Hill," "Red Rain," "Mercy St." etc, etc, etc.
I forgot how to sing, how to dance, and how to play until I had children. Then it all came back to me naturally.
You need to react to “Talk to Me” Peter wrote for his daughter after he separated from his wife and Melissa wasn’t talking to him, there’s two live versions out there, one with Paula Cole and one with his daughter, both great!
It's also in the dance movie with Richard Gere...now _that_ scene will make you cry.
His songs pop up in wonderful films. the movie Wall-e has a great song over the ending credits.
Peter Gabriel - Biko. A song that called out racism that still reverberates to this day, is sadly still applicable to this day. "We" are slow learners
Thank you for this.
You will love his duet with Kate Bush!
My favorite song!
In Your Eyes" Live version!
Another Peter Gabriel song you might like is called Don't Give Up which is a duet with Kate Bush.
The book of love has not been boring for me for the past 46 years.
Beautiful
I know you haven't heard it but Ali's almost describing the sentiments of "Dance Me To The Ends Of Love"
I refused to use the word genius for an artist until I heard and saw Peter Gabriel. No one else has combined audio + visual like him.
You should try I Grieve, Blood Of Eden and The Barry Williams Show.
Now I’m fucking crying 😭
Hes done some real upbeat bangers too, like Shock the Monkey, I Have The Touch, Sledgehammer, and Solsbury Hill.
But if you prefer his world music, check out San Jacinto or Biko.
It's funny because I have known of Peter Gabriel's music for a long time but I also just discovered The Book of Love at the last episode of Scrubs.
You could also hear lots of Peter Gabriel on CSI Las Vegas 😊
You have to see his performance with Genesis.
As always Gabriel nails it, now I dont have to write my book just let Peter sing it, epic.
You guys gotta check out The Wedding Song by Peter, Paul & Mary ❤❤❤
Listen to Don’t Give Up and you will weep again ❤❤❤
You haven't even begun to scratch the surface of Peter Gabriel.
Enjoy the rabbit hole.
Stephen Merrits songwriting is some of the best.
