A++ probably the best Neo Geo game to come out in the last 20yrs, all developers should pay attention, the bar has now been raised very high & the fans won't expect anything less, this game shows us that the Neo Geo's power has been fully used. This game shines through & through. The soundtrack rocks & feels like it actually came out of a Neo title or was made by SNK back in the day. If we get Neo Geo games of this calibre, who's selling their Neo Geo 20yrs from now, most likely noone.
Mad fun! I'll always remember how much gunstar heroes impacted me. Being able to throw the enemies back at them was amazing at the time. That game was advanced.

The Neo-Geo has zero rotation capabilities built-in to hardware. And the only scaling it has is making large assets go smaller. To scale back up, requires more code. You can do a lot of that in code, but it costs a LOT in CPU performance. And we are already pushing the limits and exceeding them in some cases to do what we're doing. When I first started on this project, I thought the Neo-Geo could do all kinds of cool scaling and rotation because I played a lot of Magician Lord. It was only after working on this project did I find out how they accomplished that and how much they had to sacrifice to do it. Go look at the NGDev wiki/SDK and you'll see what I am talking about.
@@amerikaOnFire Thanks for the respond. So its not a built in hardware then. WOW. That is crazy. I think the console should of had a separate co-processor to do independent scaling and rotation. I can't even how they pulled of Samurai Showdown.
@@playnalisis Oh yeah, no problem man! SamSho was able to pull that off because it's a fighting game. Fighters require a lot less out of the hardware so they had more leeway when it came to CPU cycles to do fun tricks. And it also allowed them to do full screen scaling where they started with huge assets and scaled down, then could scale back up. Which is the opposite of how the SNES works. I do wish the Neo-Geo was more like the SNES in that all this hardware was built-in, but it just isn't. And a lot of times when you see something like scaling, it's actually just animation. Even Vengeance Hunters has scaling in the title screen...but it's animation. The one true super power of the Neo-Geo is the sheer amount of memory space you have. So as long as you have the budget for animation, you can do quite a bit of trickery. Ex: We could have done the TMNT thing where enemies were thrown at the screen and scaled up. But that would have required not just the throwing animations for every enemy in the game (and we have more than normal), but each one of those frames would have had to have been scaled up and animated as opposed to letting hardware handle it on smaller images.

As much as they trying to tout this as a Neo Geo game; it looks nothing like one from a spite or design ascetic. Ot lt looks in line with what you would come to expect from current indie beat em ups. Really wish companies would stop trying to conflate their work with something that isn't. That being said, this game looks solid and way better than that GI Joe game; which looks like a cheap GBA game.
I've seen this a couple of times, and I understand, but let me explain. Many people seem to recall what the later fighting games look like and associate that as the "Neo-Geo look". But not the whole library. For example, Metal Slug has a very Saturday Morning carton aesthetic, a lot of colors and a lot of crazy animations and set pieces. It does not look like all the SNK made fighters that dominated the later years of the console. Another example is Blue's Journey. Vengeance Hunters is more similar to Metal Slug and earlier titles before it became just SNK fighting game hardware.
After the neosd disaster, i will never buy something again from terraonion. 600+ euro (thanks for moving to Andorra and let the customers pay the taxes) for untested and not working plastic trash is a joke.
