I wonder if the disparaging symptoms are the root of depression and anxiety in PCOS. How can one be happy when your body is constantly working against you? Scalp hair loss, hirsutism, excessive weight gain (while eating healthy) cystic acne, infertility, skin discoloration from insulin resistance ( acanthosis nigricans), metabolic disorders, irregular/heavy/non-stop or non-existent periods.....the list goes on and on and on. It's awful. How is any woman supposed to be happy with these symptoms? What woman wants to embrace a beard, hair loss and infertility at the same time? We have to work 3 times harder than the average woman just to achieve a small weight reduction. Many of us don't even feel like women. We feel like prisoners in our own bodies. At the end of the day, PCOS messes with you mentally because it practically contradicts everything you do. It makes everything so much harder. For me, it will rear its ugly head even when I do everything right. Lifestyle changes has never relieved any of my symptoms. My body always reminds me PCOS is there......... It's Fuckery on another level......
@Andi Miller - Yes, I've tried inositol. It didn't work for me. There is evidence that some women with PCOS do not properly convert myo inositol to d chiro inositol. As a result, some of us can't get the benefits of inositol because our bodies don't know how to convert the inositols. However, I've heard wonderful things about that supplement. Just wish it worked for me. When I took inositol, I put on 10 pounds in 1 month. It took me nearly 3 months to work it off!! PCOS is too darn complex. I can't say how much I hate it!!!! Lol

No matter what I did, I kept gaining weight, I still have all the symptoms, but supplementing for omega-3, inositol (both myo and d-chiro), vitamin D3 + K2 (MK7), and coenzyme Q10 have helped with the weight loss with a healthy balanced diet. Incorporate pre- and probiotics in your diet. I quit added sugar, potatoes, refined grains, and processed foods completely. You will need to do that if you haven't already.
You guys need to change your diet thats the trick!! Get rid of everything that has to do with fake food! Like gluten, dairy, processed food, refined sugars and drinks! Get rid of these and eat real healthy food and you all will see the difference!

I remember I was 14.5 years old when I first started getting excessive bleeding. I was heartbroken and I cried everyday for 3 months, I was going through a breakup, and cried every hour of the day, first thing in the morning and last thing at night, and that was my daily routine. It's a coincidence you also mentioned you were diagnosed with vertigo, because i just recently, as of this summer, started getting it on and off, especially while driving. I was diagnosed with PCOS officially a couple weeks ago, though I’ve known I had it for years because it runs in my family and I have all of the symptoms. However, my 7 year old son is also diagnosed with ADHD and I never even thought for a second that it could be linked. These are the things many women have to do to learn if they have a genetic disposition or if something else may have caused it. Remember, 40 years ago, not many women were diagnosed with pcos. It was known as Stein Leventhal then and not many doctors knew about it. A lot of woman had PCOS and didn't know. So, ask your family if you can. It will help you. Good luck!

I have PCOS, and I also have Sensory Processing Disorder, ADHD, Bipolar Disorder, and excessive menstrual bleeding. Without my Nexplanon, it's to the point that I become anemic and get nauseated from the cramps. They were even coming every two weeks for a while. It's miserable!
If you have PCOS and severe anxiety and depression, you need your cortisol levels checked. I was misdiagnosed w PCOS. It was actually Cushings Disease due to pituitary adenomas (2 of them!) and is fatal left untreated. I wish the Drs would educate the public about Cushings Disease. It is SO wildly under-diagnosed. I SELF DIAGNOSED in 2019, was referred to psych. I was correct! I have Cushings disease. Going for surgery soon. Don’t blindly trust anyone. Trust your intuition and be your own advocate.

It requires a lot of testing (saliva, urine, blood) dexamethasone suppression testing, possibly IPSS which is petrosal sinus sampling, ACTH on and on and on. Once excess cortisol is established, they then look for the source (pituitary, adrenal or ectopic) and it takes time, and a damn good Doctor. Most are inept. I remained undiagnosed for 17 years. It’s a rare disease with 80% of patients being women. It’s due to a small tumor on the pituitary gland in brain that overproduces ACTH, when then makes the adrenals overproduce cortisol. Over time is toxic to the body and brain, causes organ damage and heart damage, eventually fatal.

I have read a few different articles stating that there is a link between PCOS and childhood trauma. Of course, this is all still being researched. If this is true, then that would explain a lot for me lol.

I think that physical and mental health problems should be addressed at the same time. Unfortunately, a lot of physical health problems can manifest with psychological symptoms or symptoms that seem more so in the field of psychiatry. For example, I was diagnosed with bipolar disorder for over a decade. But when they found out, I have Hashimoto’s, PCOS, I have a lot of health issues. I’m just gonna put it plainly. After things started, they realize that it had nothing to do with my mental health. My mental health was being affected by my physical health. I no longer have bipolar on my diagnosis sheet and every time a doctor brings it up. I tell them that it was taken off a year and a half ago. I do have Autism And Adhd though so I think you guys have a point there, but I believe the connection is within genetics. There are so many women who are undiagnosed. I’m just one person, but I know I have a lot of neurological issues as well as PCOS. My daughter also has a sensory processing disorder, but she’s too young for us to really be able to tell what exactly is going on. I also have close family members who also have ADHD, autism, both and have PCOS as well. I have a lot of chronic illnesses, and I will tell you that having any health issue can severely affect your mental health. Especially if it’s not addressed properly. Like I have a panic disorder and a very mild case of agoraphobia because of my chronic health issues and how quickly they all started affecting me after I got pregnant. I blame that on chronic health issues having a hard time with mobility and pain makes leaving the house incredibly difficult.

I have read a few different articles stating that there is a link between PCOS and childhood trauma. Of course, this is all still being researched. If this is true, then that would explain a lot for me lol.
My pcos started after I experienced trauma at 17, so that's that...
I had a very traumatic childhood and it makes sense.

@@mayargamal9602 Overthinking and ruminating was a huge issue for me. I no longer have PCOD (the source has been removed). I no longer ruminate. My PCOD was a nightmare for several years.

I think that physical and mental health problems should be addressed at the same time. Unfortunately, a lot of physical health problems can manifest with psychological symptoms or symptoms that seem more so in the field of psychiatry. For example, I was diagnosed with bipolar disorder for over a decade. But when they found out, I have Hashimoto’s, PCOS, I have a lot of health issues. I’m just gonna put it plainly.
After things started, they realize that it had nothing to do with my mental health. My mental health was being affected by my physical health.
I no longer have bipolar on my diagnosis sheet and every time a doctor brings it up. I tell them that it was taken off a year and a half ago. I do have Autism And Adhd though so I think you guys have a point there, but I believe the connection is within genetics. There are so many women who are undiagnosed. I’m just one person, but I know I have a lot of neurological issues as well as PCOS. My daughter also has a sensory processing disorder, but she’s too young for us to really be able to tell what exactly is going on.
I also have close family members who also have ADHD, autism, both and have PCOS as well.
I have a lot of chronic illnesses, and I will tell you that having any health issue can severely affect your mental health. Especially if it’s not addressed properly. Like I have a panic disorder and a very mild case of agoraphobia because of my chronic health issues and how quickly they all started affecting me after I got pregnant. I blame that on chronic health issues having a hard time with mobility and pain makes leaving the house incredibly difficult.
