Thanks for sharing the mast thoughts, super interesting.
Wanted to ask if you can explain why in prone foiling you wouldn't want glide?
I can imagine maybe similar to how you might want a rockered surfboard to sit in the pocket, and it has lots of drag so you are able to keep it in the hollow part of the wave, Dane Reynolds said something to this effect - a better surfer wants a slow surfboard - maybe this is where I can't relate to what you're looking for.
But, back to foiling, Tomo Earl has said many times that he doesn't like the slower masts, even if they are stiffer. He rode the older uni mast because of this, saying the newer one, while stiffer, was too slow. My impression would be that if you wanted to slow things down, then you could ride a slower profile foil.
    Keen to hear your thoughts

I am not James, but I am quite a freak of foiling. I believe that depends of how do you prefer to surf the waves. The majority of the foils are so efficient that if you do not have a slow front wing the speed you generate just for standing in the wave it will be to much for staying near the “pocket”. You will advance the wave, and that amount of speed makes it quite difficult to make close or sharp turns, thus you may prefer a slower setup. Although all are personal preferences
I have a Ketos HPS 880 (European brand) which is not near as fast as the 850s, but allows me to surf like a surfboard. On the other hand I bleive the top speed or even normal higher speed of 850s may be much more desire-bale for downind or wing. Next July I may move to Australia, I will buy one 850s ^^
Waiting to hear the sensei opinion!

As @pepclotas8153 said, for critical surfing in the pocket it is much harder with a foil that glides too much. When I tow foil or wing foil in surf I use a large tail to prevent the glide. For downwind I use a smaller tail to create more glide. You can't have one setup that is good for everything, there is always a compromise somewhere

@@jamescasey7393 thanks, makes sense that you outrun the wave, my impression would be that you go for a tail with more drag or a slower foil rather than a mast.
For what it is worth, my experience with the NLv2 is that it is faster than the Unifoil Katana - surfing in waves. If I could choose, I'd get a Cedrus for the performance and flexibility
