@Nathan Woolverton I think you're not understanding what's being said. They're not saying the car isn't a flat four boxer engine. No one is disagreeing with you. They are voicing their opinion that the car "should" have been a bigger engine, not the fa20. I also had a 2014 GT86. I also agree with the others that the fa20 was a wasted engine on the brz/gt86. Should have been a bigger engine. Or even a turbocharged model like the lancer eye WRX models.
+Miguel Arredondo The cars final design schematics and engine were created by Fuji Heavy Machinery (Subaru), the transmission and partial injection system technology was then supplied by Toyota, but totally agree it would be amazing!
243kingfrank They have in the past and usually not for the better, lol. Geo Prism/Toyota Corolla, Pontiac Vibe/Toyota Matrix. GM even rebadged a corolla and called it a Chevy Nova. There are others I just can't remember at the moment. I think only the Vibe/Matrix was a true collaboration. You can blame the cheap interior on GM, lol.
Well he did go turbo, blew the engine, rebuilt thr engine and blew it again, maybe his tunning sucks. Tunning is the key to a motors long life, but also even with the best tune, abusing the shit out of it, eventually its gonna pop. If you build it right, tune it right and drive it right, it will last virtually forever.
Stuntihn MX super cheap build ? wilwood brakes and kw v3 coilovers alone cost probably 10 thousand before the built engine/tranny swap which is the third time they've gone into internals on this car ? if he was just to buy/build this as an only weekend car he would need a lot of money to throw at something that isn't even his daily. for sure parent's money
WeekEnd133 You have't seen the Sprintex 335 supercharger for it. It can do 450whp. While weighting less.. Why would you put in an engine that weights as much as the stock tranny + engine in a car that has a weight distribution of 51/49.. Idiot
@@yellowpeaches6040 from my research, an LS1 weighs less than an FA20, and that's before adding the weight of the supercharger and supporting mods.. who's the idiot?
A+ build, pretty speechless. They addressed almost every area of performance, I keep seeing more and more LS motors being put into jdm tuner cars; it is the new era of hot rodding!
Nice swap, looks clean and sounds great. Although it's not an LS1 as the video is titled. LS1s are a particular aluminum block only engine from the LS Engine family and are found in the C5 Vette, 4th Gen F-body, 4th Gen GTO and various Holden vehicles This has a 5.3 LS Iron Block truck engine which are much cheaper and easier to find at local wrecking yards. Though there are some Alum block 5.3 engines out there they fetch a premium rivaling LS1 territory. The stock heads on all LS engines flow so much better than the old school SBC you can get massive power gains even on a 4.8 liter LS engine with just a Cam swap plus supporting valvetrain. Many parts are interchangeable within the Gen 3 and 4 engine families given the right bore, clearances, machining, etc are spec'd correctly. For instance later Gen 4 5.3 LS engines received the same cylinder heads found on the LS6. All in all for obvious reasons the truck motors are more practical for swaps.
Spends $20k on the drivetrain of this car, then zip ties rear bumper back together, haha! Seriously bad ass car though! I'd LS swap my e36 M3 if I wear rich.
It's because he actually tracks the car. People who really use their build typically worry less about being cool and showing off the looks. It's about the build.
+Anthony Thomas Nope, if I had the $7-10k to do it the way I'd want I'd go ahead and do it. But since I can't send that without jeopardizing the financial security of my family or going into debt I don't. I'd need to save for a while too be comfortable throwing that amount of cash down. Plus the S50 in my M3 was just rebuilt and runs great. I need to spend my car project budget on my track safety prep, cages and harnesses and such!
An aluminum block (5.3- These can be hard to source., 5.7 or 6.2) would drop roughly 80-lbs off the nose. Combine that with two moderately sized turbos (5557-6262) and this thing would be off the chain on a road course. Great swap, congratulations!!!
Holy fuck that LS sounds absolutely demonic. That shit is my dream man, really been wanting to snag an FRS and that LS swap makes up for just about the only gripe I've got with the vehicle. That's so bomb man, amazing build and it's sick knowing that such a thing is possible.
The LS architecture pound for pound simply can't be beat. These engines can take a beating. My only issue with your build is losing one of the main benefits OF the LS swap...the fuel injection. When I see an LS swap with a carburetor, it reminds me of a time when our TV's were were big, bulky and your channel choices were 2, 6, 8, 23 of sometimes 40 if the weather was right...
Has a place that does the install for $5000. You just have to honestly provide the motor and a wiring harness and they'll do the rest. Weapons Grade Performance is the name.
That car is awesome... Just bought a used Scion last week... what an awesome ride.... Soon much fun to drive... Hopefully I can start to do some mods soon...
Why all the hate here? What does it matter to you how much money he has or if he made it himself. He's a car enthusiast and he did something you wouldn't or couldn't. I'm a Ford guy but an LS swap here is a great idea.
H E R S E N P A i hahaha I saw a 2016 Nissan GTR parked out on the driveway of this really shitty house the other day! I guess they prefer ride over crib!
most likely spinning mad tires. you have tires with pretty much zero grip. why spend all this money on power and suspension and go fast mods if you cheap out on the one most important piece of the puzzle tires. good brakes? no use with no grip. lots of power? what for, you can't put it down on the ground.
i also have this fully forged aluminum composite e--brake cable. it definitely helps on the trips to California where i have to park on hills lol.. that swaps pretty sweet
Iron block??... Well, there goes the entire point of the car. I'm sure it handles like a big fat pig now.. Ehhh, to each their own and all that I suppose.
The FA engine that comes in the FRS is actually really heavy for what it is. Only gain about 100-150lbs over the entire vehicle. Not a huge deal. Instant torque and power that's reliable? That's a huge deal.
Yes, the FA20 is a bit on the heavy side for a 4cyl thanks to it's 2 separate heads etc. But it's weight is kept very low and centralized. This allows for an exceptionally low COG, which was one of the FRZ's main selling points. An all aluminum LS weighs in around 450, quite light for a 6L V8. But that's still over 100lbs more than an FA. Add another 100lbs for the iron block, and you're looking at 200 extra lbs focused ahead of the front wheels and much higher up. Not ideal. But, I'm sure the copious under steer this situation creates can be cured by a quick stab at the throttle!
Why do people hate on LS swaps??? It's an easy, reliable way to make good power. I think it's awesome!
I love them
+TheOneonesixfanatic who is hating?
Danny PhantomVision just a couple of people in the comments.
i mean i understand both perspectives of why someone would put in either a ls vs. a jz motor.
Danny PhantomVision I like both
that guy knows his car from the inside out
Well he did build it
Literally the most bad ass frs I've ever seen
dat ass tho
too bad the diffuser gotta go
have you seen the ferrari 458 engine powered frs drift build? this thing is maaaad

youtubasoarus the ways it's a frs but Toyota bumper......ik there the same
he is
Sell me this pen.
This guy presents this car better than some "professional" car reviewers. Good Job
that car looks like it's suppose to be a v8 anyways.
freelancer1able nah maybe v6 or even f6
No actually Toyota 86's come stock with a four cylinder
Honestly they don't. They are relatively stubby. Park it next to a front engine mounted v8 sports car and the difference is glaring.
