      CDP yes that’s true. But if half ton pickup trucks costing $50K - $65K is now going to be the norm, I’m glad the interior of this truck actually looks the price.

    The e-hybrid does help on the highway. It allows the cylinder deactivation to run more often and fills torque when needed so it doesn't need to activate all 8 cylinders.
    The microphone at the back you pointed at isn't for Bluetooth. It's for the noise cancellation.
    And I believe the ram is best in class towing now 12,700 or something.
    Good review, thanks

    I just ordered my 2018 FORD f150, before hand I had tried a Laramie 2019 Ram and truthfully it was a great truck. My biggest complaint is the materials used in the body panels and the fact that I live in the salt belt, my 2015 f150 has proven to be a good truck with some quality issues but reliable and so I stayed with what I know and like. Anyone who hates on this Ram knows absolutely nothing about this truck. This Ram has raised the bar in many ways and will force GM and FORD to elevate their game in the fit and finish department.

    You are the best truck reviewer on youtube bar none. Your voice is very well modulated and just the right loudness(is that a word??). You give all the interior details not too fast not too slow. When you got done I was drooling over that truck lol.
    I've had three Ram HDs; a 2500 a SRW 3500 and a dually. Never had one issue with any of them. Could you test a 3500 SRW? I know they're rare compared to the dually but I would like to see how much Ram has improved them compared to the 2007 I had.
    Keep up the great work bro! :-D

    Great review. I completely agree that the interior of that truck is gorgeous. Some quick math, though, shows that the E-Torque system has an 8.5 year payback at 12,000 miles per year (at $3.18/gallon). That puts it into "nope" territory for me.

    I am privileged in my life to treat myself to a new truck. Had trucks all my life. Purchased a new 2019 Ram Longhorn. Now with that being said, Ram is by FAR the nicest, best truck to date. Very happy on the options given. Design and quality. People go out and try one and it will speak for itself.

    Heres some stuff some do not know. The 2019 Ram 1500s have a water line that runs to the rear differential. This helps warm up the differential fluid to help increase fuel economy, ever so minutely. The MOPAR oil filter p/n 339 is in the same location as the previous generation, however it has more hoses and lines in the way. Trucks equipped with air bags, now have an air compressor in the bed frame, rather than just a holding tank. The hybrid version such as this as well as the 3.6L Pentastar V6 has the battery pack mounted on the driver side along the back of the cabin. The new what I'd call a starter/generator takes over the roll of the alternator as well as acts as a "pony" electric motor to help move the vehicle from a stop. It weighs quite a bit more than an alternator, so use extreme caution if you ever have to replace it yourself out of warranty or you are a dodge technician yourself.
    I work at a Dodge dealership and have done some training on these. Overly complex is my honest opinion on it.

    Hello there Andre! But I need to question you math, when I’ve gone online to build a Ram, no matter the trim, the trucks come standard with a 3.6 E-Torque V6. But if you want the reg Hemi, that’s a $1,195 option. But the E-Torque 5.7 is a $2,645 option. That tells me it’s a $1,450 option, over the reg Hemi.Thats just under 3/4 of the cost of the Hemi. Not just under $2,000!

      I am with you I cannot afford one either. It sad that they take a truck that cost $17000.00 - $19,000.00 to build they mark them up so much.
      If only everyone is America would walk away the the car lots for about 30 -60 days, this prices would come down where they need to be.
      This applies to all the brands out there.

    Using the 19MPG average vs the 17.... Assuming a 26 gallon tank the 2MPGs per gallon means 52 more miles per tank.Which means 2.73 gallons saved. Assuming 15000 miles a year that is 30 tanks of gas which means in a year you would save , or get an additional 81 gallons of gas. Throw the national average per gallon as of today ($3), hell even add .30 cents to it to buy 89 octane and you have saved..... $267 over the span of the year. At this cost calculation that will take 7.4 years to pay for the e-torque system. Sure, fuel prices go up and down so this is not an exact science here but I think you can see the cost of the system is hard to justify. We have also not talked about failure of the system post warranty and if it is going to take 7+ years you will be driving w/o factory warranty for a while. I am not bashing the Ram, I have owned many. But this piece of tech needs to be more reasonably priced.

      Badbird, I like cut of your jib....a numbers man, just like me. I have done several posts just like your on the internet about Hybrids... and they really are not about savings, they are about efficiency. You NEED to be a person who REALLY cares about using less fossil fuel MORE SO than caring about spending money. Which is why there ARE so many Prius out there.. honestly you can get a car for much less $$$ to do the same thing that a Prius does, but they are not as Efficient.I don't know if I see "the caring" translating that well over to the Full Size truck market..not to mention possible long term complications

    • @VARITHMS

      It seems like it would be better to get the V6 hybrid and almost have the power of the V8. Then it should almost get 30 miles to gallon probably somewhere around 23-25 combined

    Boy, got some RAM haters this early in the morning I see. Ram has a lot of unique features that other trucks don't have...besides the best interior hands down of any truck; Only one with independent rear coils, Only one offering air suspension, now a unique hybrid system (great for those that drive a lot of city miles). RAM is out front in a lot of areas (even the first to bring back the eco-diesel in a full-sized truck). They make a great truck. You can even throw in that they are very competitive in price (especially when you consider the incentives RAM usually offers).
    If you are not at least considering a RAM truck for your new pick up, then you are just being a foolish fanboy.

Good job Ram, you’re only going to make things better for the customers for each brand because you have now pushed the interior segment further than anyone has. Congrats! But I can’t get away from the 6.2-10-speed. For my own taste the mechanical is the most important.

    Love the Longhorn edition. The interiors are epic. I prefer the dual color treatment over the truck that you showed. And that panoramic sunroof is crazy. I have it on my 2014 300 Sport and love it. But in the truck its twice the size it seems. Very nice.
    I've seen the Longhorn edition in black and also a dark gray. Both look amazing. The only complaint I have with the Ram trucks is the step in the rear. Ram definitely needs to learn a bit from its competitors and put steps in the bumper on both sides. I'm seriously considering buying a Longhorn edition. The e-torque seems like a good addition and worth the extra money for someone like me who does a good amount of in town driving. Adding 2 mpg's could potentially pay for that option. Especially with price of gas being what it is. Great review.

    Don’t know why everyone, is hating on RAM. They always talk about reliability. Sure, Chrysler has not always had the greatest reliability, but ever since they became FCA, they have really improved, and are continuing to improve. Every company has had there worst. Remember when Toyota, had the accelerator scandal. Everyone always talks about how good Toyota reliability is, but all companies make mistakes. Glad to see FCA improving.

    I haul my 5500lb camper regularly across NJ through PA and upstate NY. Took it all the way out to the mid west on a big haunting camping trip. I bought the Ram1500 v6 etorque crew cab over the v6 Hemi. 13.5 MPG through mountains maintaining 60-70MPH. Very rarely have I ever topped 4000 RPMS (with 1 exception traveled through PA and forgot tow haul mode once at most I hit 4500 RPMs). 58k sticker price bought for 48k Fully loaded minus the airbag suspension. I invested extra money in a good weight distribution hitch. City driving I get 22-24MPG all day long. Drive the beach regularly on the Jerseyshore. V8Hemi has no use for me I will never haul 10,000lbs 😆

      Eric Wilmot: Not exactly. It’s also designed to help keep the truck in ECO mode (cylinder deactivation) longer by giving it a bit of help. So in theory it can definitely help efficiency in highway driving. I wish RAM would do more to explain the system to the buying public. Sure there’s information out there but it’s few and far between.

    I saw a black and chrome one of these on the freeway the other day going in the other direction and it looked sharp as hell. Idk why people hate on the front end, i think it looks great and more grown up. And the road presence of the new design makes it look even larger than it really is, which is what you want in a truck. Id love to own one some day, hopefully ram’s reliability starts to become better in the future when i can afford one. Maybe a more reasonably optioned one with less electronics can maintain the reliability of the last generation’s.
    Not sure if etorque is worth the $ on the v8, most dont buy v8 trucks for mpg. the v6 should be a nice application for that technology.

    I've been watching a lot of new truck videos and the Ram is looking real good. One itsy bitsy thing I don't like is the location of the manual shift buttons. I'd prefer them toward the outside of the wheel as opposed to the inside. You'll have to loosen/change your grip on the wheel to use them. I point this out only because I use my Ford's manual shift buttons all the time and it is totally seamless to do so.

    When the engine is stopped at 0 rpm at traffic lights, presumably oil pressure is also back to zero, because the oil pump is not operating. What happens when you take off from standstill with zero oil pressure? I see from the video, the engine revs up instantaneously to propel the vehicle forward. How does the engine handle high revs under load with oil pressure at zero? Wouldn't stop start systems like this wear out the engine due to numerous instances where there is sudden high revs with zero oil pressure at the initial startup?

    Do you think with this system it could lead to a lot of serpentine belt failures?

    • @tumbleweedking5668
      @tumbleweedking5668 6 років тому

      I think its on an independent system, at least the 2.0 turbo Jeep is that way.

    • @TheXOoftheRO
      @TheXOoftheRO 6 років тому

      If you notice there is more than one belt. And the main belt is much heavier duty than a standard serpentin set up. If you use 303 oil you can get a belt to last 250000 miles

      repairvehicle eh style no, I like the look of fords interior better, everything about it looks more clean and less trendy, it’s simply timeless and nice, ram does use nicer more expensive materials however, so the quality is definitely better than ford, this coming from a lifelong ford owner

    In general, Dodge pickups are growing on me. They used to be significantly behind (in terms of numbers), but they seem to be closing the gap. However, start/stop is a deal breaker for me if I can't permanently disable it. Why? Because it'll cause my starter to wear out stupid fast and will cost me significantly more in the long run than idling for a handful of seconds waiting for a light to change.

    Sounds like it still uses a starter motor as well? Would explain the giant lead acid battery in the front. 0.4 kWh is really small. That's like 5 laptop batteries.

      benjaminwayneb That is really interestingly. This is indeed a very mild hybrid then. Guess making the starter motor more powerful would have been too big of a design change vs. a bolt on addition to the existing model.

    • @benjaminwayneb
      @benjaminwayneb 6 років тому +1

      Blake The battery is too small for it be more then a very mild hybrid. The truck only has a small hybrid battery in the cab behind the seat.

  • @aslkdfjhg

    Remember 15 years ago people said they wouldn't be seen dead in a hybrid. This isn't the most efficient hybrid design (electric assist on the crank vs an electric motor with a petrol generator), its a start, and should give these gasoline trucks better bottom end torque and economy with a load.
