Hello dear beekeepers of Canada, we are a family (Vlad 32, Lilya25) from Ukraine who lost everything there, home, apiary and of course stability. Under the CUAET program, we want to come to Canada and start all over again. We can do almost everything, because we made hives ourselves and built a house. Now we are actively learning English. We ask not indifferent people for advice or help, in which province it is better to go for beekeeping? Thank you
I just wonder why you're not running in with 2 deep for brood or for the queen ... Ian- have you ever experimented with wintering over hives with less bees in them to see if that cuts down on food consumption and Winter losses? In other words, if you took one of those strong hives and split it into two, and then made each of them heavy with syrup, would they winter over better than one hive with all those bees in it? The idea would be to change the ratio of bees to comb containing food. The split hives would have less bees and more comb containing syrup. Just curious.
Hi! I wanted to ask you about bucket feeding. I used to place a feeding container inside the hive and they would devour the syrup like there is no tomorrow. Last week I tried to do the bucket method and drilled plenty of holes of the same diameter as the container I had inside, and they are barely interested in it. It seems as though they are not feeding. Am I missing something, any reason they dont feed out of a bucket? Thank you!
@@aCanadianBeekeepersBlog Okay. Anything you do to stop that? That was great to hear you protecting your neighbor’s honey by not open feeding! Here’s to hoping we all have neighbors like you.
I have 3 hives, and watching the speed at which you guys take care of yours is absolutely amazing. Thanks for your videos.
Way to soldier on.
You and your Bees are tough.
I didn't think you guys would produce much honey after that though Spring.
Well done!
It hurts my back watching you put that top deep on that colony by hand. :)

I took the “last” of the honey last week…a couple rains brought a fresh bloom of clover and put the goldenrod on ‘roids…back go the supers😂
Just ROCKIN Ian! Nice work! You got a lot of feeding days ahead of you eh? cheers!

Yes indeed
I'm from Libya.. l always watch you.. How do you not have evictions? Mr.Ayan..
"evictions?" What do you mean?
I'm assuming you mean swarms. He very carefully manages space and food to attempt to prevent swarms.
Ian, how does the hive handle with the lack of space when you pull all of the extra space in the supers and reduce them to a single box?
It gets tight,
Without a flow and nearly September the queen is slowing
Thxs for the replies!

How do you decide how much open feeding to give a yard vs when you do pails since you know how much the ones are getting with the pails?
I calculate the number of hives x 4 litres . 1 pail, 4 litres is equal to 160 in an open feeder, so for me, 2 feeders
Open feeding is pretty even when the hives are all even

Yes but also on the back side of summer during a dearth, plus we are run too thin
