Trains at: Köln Messe/Deutz, 08/09/23

A fantastic afternoon session spent at Köln Messe/Deutz station in the beautiful city of Köln in Germany where we see plenty of services from DB Regio, RXX, Intercity, Flixtrain, National Express and Trans Regio.
The current station was built and developed from the previous 4 stations around the area that were operated by competing companies around 1845. These were the Cologne-Minden Railway and the Bergisch-Märkische Railway Company. The station was opened in 1913 with the main station building was designed by architect Hugo Röttcher opening in 1914.
There's a great deal of history regarding the surrounding area but I'll only focus on what happened to the station from 1915 to the present day.
During the Second World War Cologne was completely flattened, there was very little of the old city left standing and this is also true of the railway stations in the city. Köln Messe/Deutz was destroyed so the station had to be rebuilt and at the same time it was completely redesigned to a more basic and simple structure seeing as the much bigger and more important main station was being rebuilt on the other side of the river.
Three spans of the old train shed were destroyed and replaced by simply concrete platform canopies, parts of the tunnel system and the station forecourt and registered in the list of monuments of the city of Cologne.
In 1988 the city of Cologne was planning reshaping the Intercity Express programme that was operating around the country, the reason why they were looking at reshaping it around the city was because of the high speed line that was being planned to run from Cologne to Frankfurt, Ķöln Messe/Deutz was going to be a registered stop for the intercity trains.
The council also considered the prospect of having Köln Messe as a terminating station for the ICE services, but this never happened as the main station was deemed to be more suitable.
The station was named Köln-Deutz until 2004 when it was renamed Köln Messe/Deutz at the request of the Cologne Trade Fair who fitted the bill to get the station renamed.

Hi There Again it is Mr Cannadine T. Boxill-Harris, I have another interesting idea for most of you Class 313, Class 314 and that also is including those interesting Class 315 Fans out there, rather than scrapping most of those Class 313's Class 314's including the Class 315's maybe you guys can convert them and including the refurbishment into those Volvo B10M Engine, Scania N112 Engine, Cummins M11 Engine, Gardner 6LXC Engine, Gardner 6LXB, Engine, Gardner 8LXB Engine, Class 313's, Class 314's and the Class 315's and convert all of them into a 2 Carriages and Three Carriages of the Class 313's, Class 314's and that is including those Class 315's for most of us Class 314's and the Class 315's Diesel Train Fans Pretty Please Are you still going to do this interesting type of Project
for all of us out there Please?

Whilst it would be nice to see the older units get a new lease of life unfortunately something like that just isn't financially viable. Plus you've then got to find a railway to put them on and an operator who would be prepared to use them
