genius. this whole video is commentary on how artists today work so hard and put so much effort into something just for the corporations and "men in suits" to invalidate it so quickly. Love this video
“If I found my body in chains, I’d lay down and wait.. and hope she looks for me.” Wrapped up in yourself, in your struggles and insecurities, hoping that you’ve done enough in your relationship that your significant other will hang in there with you.. it hurts how relatable this is.
This line stuck with me too like crazy! For me it meant, sometimes you can't do anything about the situation, or don't know what to say, so you just wait.....and hope she looks for me. 🙃
Also in a more literal sense, when you go imagining crazy situations and worse case scenarios, many may think “what would happen if I got kidnapped? How would I escape?” But Tyler instead is saying here “I wouldn’t start problem solving and doing all this stuff to free myself, I would just stay put and wait, hoping and believing that she sees I’m missing and will stop at nothing to find and rescue me.” That’s how much he trusts Jenna and believes in her and in their relationship
something about josh building the box & tyler making the "bullet" just fits so well to their character, josh, in a way, making a safe space then tyler letting the creativity flow

This mv/song came out at the right time for me. I'm taking art school entrance exams in three months from now and this perfectly embodies the fear of pouring your heart in your art only for it to be judged as "a miss" in the end. It's so comforting tho
Love how it's basically them spending their time making something awesome and creative, Tyler making the core of the project and Josh being there to build around it and protect it, and then there's a guy who tries it out once and it's a "miss" for him. Still, Tyler and Josh spent so much time on their projects, to build something that they are proud of, for people who understand it and I couldn't be more proud to be here.
I could talk hours about their individual pieces. Tyler making a bullet (is it a bullet, idk if that's what these are called) with a theater scene on it, indicating that he orchestrates the stories they write and play about and he sets the scenes and the tone of the songs. And then Josh making a wooden box to put it in, with the most intricate design on it, no doubt making new designs/drum beats for each new bullet/song. It's just all so well thought out!
@@mariax771 It's a shotgun shell. (basically a bullet but for a shotgun) Instead of a single lead bullet it fires multiple smaller pellets. Unless it's a slug shell then it's a single big bullet essentially. I get what you mean though.
@@OmNommSnom Ah thank you for clarifying! If it is a shotgun shell that could also mean the multiple smaller pellets it fires symbolize different meanings packed into a song. Like you have a normal song but everyone listening to it could find a different meaning in it because of different circumstances and experiences..

I can't you guys. Those faces at the end broke my heart. The bullet and the box, like they did something with a lot of effort and put a lot of love into it (SAI), and then someone (fandom) just used it and discarded it as any other piece of whatever. I love these guys so much
I feel like possibly the newer clique harshly criticized SAI not fully aware that the whole tour, the whole album it was playing into the propaganda of DEMA using him to entertain the masses like he explained in the story telling before this new Era. It was absolutely genius on ToP's part that a whole tour and album and promotion still was part of the lore.

The amount of pain he endured from the fans who didn’t like Scaled and Icy is really being expressed in this album. Me personally Scaled and Icy helped me get through a lot of pain and depression occurred before the pandemic. I appreciate that album so much.
stupid twitter clique._. the plot of the video is not about that. it is a mock at music label, fueled by ramen, which doesn't care about their artists and refused to promote sai
For sure, I will always appreciate that album because it made my days during covid more much fun. At the end of the day I think that was the intention of the album, just to have fun during bad days.
the thing is if you listened to top before trench, you d realise that trench and scaled are a bit too sound pleasing, they didnt convince me much, continuing on the same song story line of trench wasn't a good idea, trench should v just stayed trench, and scaled a new album with a whole concept, their new singles beside ovecompensate, reflates the old top i listened to and givees that vibe, (iv been listening since vessel got released)
I love the metaphor of Josh crafting the container (Vessel, if you will??) for Tyler's creation. The BEATS carry the message. They're so deep sometimes, I can't handle it 😅
okay but this is actually so sad. It's a perfect analogy/example of how society treats artists and how even though we know it may go to waste, we still put so much effort in making whatever we do in a unique and creative way bcs we can't help it. In the end, even though they did what they could, the shot was a miss because it wasn't even in their hands.
The fact that the bullet has that rabbit with the jar like in A CAR, A TORCH, A DEATH (You told me to hold this jar, and when I look inside I saw it held your heart) and seeing the box that Josh made like in MIGRAINE (That makes Pandora's box contents look nonviolent ) currently has me crazy. I LOVE TWENTY ONE PILOTS ❤️
You say it is sad that we all can relate, and I get where you are coming from but I do not think that is the right wording. I agree it is sad to see so many people go through these tough times and know these feelings of hurt and disappointment, but is it not good to know you are not (fighting) alone?
Scaled and Icy saved my life and it still gets me through my darkest moments. It hurts to see how others consider it 'a miss’. For me, that album is just wholesomeness and happiness in one. It’s my favourite album of them all and nobody can convince me that it deserved the hate it got... it’s just perfect. If it weren’t for their music, I don’t know how I would have fought this.
Unpopular opinion but scaled and icy is my favorite album. I even got a Saturday/mulberry street tattoo. Saturday is one of my favorite songs. “Life moves slow on the ocean floor. I can’t feel the waves anymore. Did the tide forget to move. I just pray that I’m not losing you”
I don't know who will be seeing this but you two saved my life. You are part of my childhood and are part of the end of my adolescence. Thank you for everything Josh and Tyler, we love you.

Basically I think what the bullet in the song represents is that no matter how hard they both try to work and do their best, the music industry isn’t satisfied. Great metaphor, loved it. Can’t wait for Friday im so hyped!!

This immediately made my blood boil haha! And as for the... other... comment, YES, folks can have their opinion. Doesn't mean I or anyone else HAS to like it. THANKS!
I think the music video does a good job of displaying how intentions don't mean anything if not communicated. I think that is the whole point of this song in general. We see the majority of the video Tyler and Josh putting a bunch of effort into creating the shotgun shell and box which we can appreciate seeing how much time and effort they put into it. Only for someone to shoot their bullet and quickly dismiss them after they "miss". Afterwards Tyler and Josh both stand there for a few moments not saying anything or expressing themselves (or communicating).
Also the first album with them on the cover, and the first album where they're capitalizing their name in the titles, I've noticed a few things like this since Tyler said this album is about breaking cycles, backslide is all about it, also this is the first album where Tyler mentions buttsecks

I didn’t know Josh was so good at making boxes and Tyler making bullets pretty 😮 in all seriousness this song speaks volume of having what you’ve out your all into creating for someone to just throw it right back in your face, even after so much hard work & dedication. We love u boys & I appreciate every song, lyric, beat/drum. ❤❤❤
Josh and Tyler know how to make the best music videos, and this gives me chills because Tyler always dedicates a song to his wife in every album, and Together Josh and Tyler are just perfect. Staying alive for ya
Trash the dragon was in the background to reference it… it is indeed sad since I loved allot of songs in SAI. Just didn’t hit with the masses I guess..
i love that we're seeing way way more of josh. even little things, like him standing in front of tyler at the end, showing that tyler isnt always the focus, are amazing. its almost like so many people focus on tyler and how amazing he is, that josh sort of gets ignored, like hes 'just the drummer' or 'just the other guy in the band'. wouldnt even remotely be the same without him and i love that hes being appreciated and shown more than ever now because he seriously deserves it |-/
Crazy that this is how Tyler feels about Scaled and Icy. Put all his heart and soul into something just for people to basically say "that's a miss" I hope the boys know that there are many TOP fans who loved SAI which includes myself
Fun fact: Every twenty one pilots album has exactly one song whose title begins with the word 'The' The Pantaloon - Self-titled The Run and Go - Vessel The Judge - Blurryface The Hype - Trench The Outside - Scaled and Icy The Craving - Clancy
I just want to say SAI came at a time when we needed something cheerful and had some of my favorite tunes of all. The album was what I needed and it helped me on a personal level through some really hard times. I'm a better person thanks to some of the harder times in my life I needed to get through. SAI was one of the few lights that was needed for me. Redecorate was one of the best songs I think ever constructed by the boys but I honestly didn't need an entire album of that reminding feeling. I just want them to know it wasn't unappreciated and it helped this person when the rest of the world wasn't so bright and I want to say thank you for scaled and icy as a fan that's been following, watching and growing with you since 2013.
Honestly, I agree. SAI was a bop and I still listen to it regularly. I had some big life changes going on, the pandemic was in full swing but only just about to hit where I am (Western Australia). It was different to their other stuff, yeah, but that doesn't make it bad, just different!
I will never understand the hate for SAI it was creatively in tune in a time when creativity was immensely difficult to come to. I still listen to it and regard it as one of my favorites. It's not the best (that's trench until Clancy comes out) but it has such a feeling of "life sucks and here's some ways to brighten it" and the rebellious tunes on the album??? Banger!
redecorate is one of my fav songs !!! watching Tyler recreate the beat with a fucking pot on stage was CRAZY and gave me such a new appreciation for that song 😭🩷
tylers emphasis on instagram that this is the SINGLE VERSION not jenna’s version really makes me think this is about pouring your heart and soul into making music, only for it to fail so quickly in a crazy competitive industry. sooooo well done
I was a huge The Lumineers fan prior to Trench. Found twenty one, never liked rap or hip hop or rnb. Always been a fan of edm, emo and folk. But twenty one blends genres so effortlessly. And for folk to become a part of the blend brings it to a full circle.
Scaled And Icy is an extremely nice album and it got the most beautiful era. It doesn’t matter that it hasn’t gone as viral as expected. SAI has songs that are really, really good and I know most of fans agree. 💖ψ💙

That ending is a metaphor. You shoot your shot. Theres a lot of men here who have poured everything they have into “the one” over and over again only to always miss. You either keep it up only to have it eat at your confidence or be happy with yourself and being alone. Never settle boys.
A commentary on 'hit' songs, versus 'flops' or misses. Some of the songs that have the most work an love put into them (intentions) just don't become a 'hit'. Meanwhile the song that was easiest to make becomes more successful. Hitting us with the harsh truths here guys. I'm glad a popular band is spreading this message.
I believe this could also be about the music: "she" could be the music itself, and at 0:59 when he say: "if i found my body in chain, I hope she looks for me" its a way of saying the music saved him
I love how their music is abstract and means what it means to each person and meets them wherever they are. For me, this hits so close to the idea of more than just creating art, but pouring yourself out authentically and not being loved or accepted. The greatest fear one can have in my opinion is not being accepted or loved for who they truly, authentically are. At least that is my fear. When someone makes you feel like you aren’t good enough, it’s the worst feeling in the world. The well crafted shotgun shell represents me and my authentic self, feeling proud of who I am, and then taking the risk of giving myself over to someone in hopes I won’t be a miss, but unfortunately with that vulnerable risk comes the chance of being hurt, rejected, or used up.
wow the “it’s a miss” really feels like when you pour your heart and soul into a crush or lover just for them to throw it out and let your love and patience be unappreciated
The ending for me personally is an interpretation of something that Josh and Tyler did with all their hearts, with all the good intentions because it was not a normal bullet, it was a colorful bullet so if we interpret that the bullet was Sai, Tyler and Josh put everything their heart and dedication so that it came out in the best way and was valued, but when they take it to launch that it is interpreted as that they launched it and that's it, there is no more magic in that, so it would be something like a hint to the fandom of how they treated in a bad way to an album which was made with all the good intentions in the world...
I like how he uses music to show how he values the relationships in his life like Josh, his wife, his kids and him and Josh's families. It's really sweet
Imagine that the box is the album Scaled And Icy,and the bullet is the music, the guy with the shotgun is the fans and then after hearing it everyone says "it's a mistake, next" saying that it "is a bad album, no sound like twenty one pilots" regardless of the effort of the two of them.
I know everyone seems to be saying that the video is about how mainstream media treats organic art, and I agree. However, as a married woman who is struggling a lot in her marriage, to me this looks like all the silent work and effort you put in to make a relationship work, only to have it blown off because you don’t bother to explain your actions. “Now I see intentions don’t mean much.” Your partner needs to KNOW you love them. They need to hear you say it, hear you fight for it with their voice and eyes and heart. Working quietly behind the scenes is beautiful and worthy of admiration and respect, but it can cause so many problems if you do not TELL your partner what you are trying to do, and that you are doing it because you love them. It’s a two way street. You must believe your partner when they say they love you and do their best to show it, but they must try their hardest to open their heart to you even if it’s painful.
I still listen to SAI front to back. I see you tyler and josh...i appreciate you. Not everything will be a hit for everyone, but we are here...the few..the proud and the emotional

Love how it's basically them spending their time making something awesome and creative, Tyler making the core of the project and Josh being there to build around it and protect it, and then there's a guy who tries it out once and it's a "miss" for him. Still, Tyler and Josh spent so much time on their projects, to build something that they are proud of, for people who understand it and I couldn't be more proud to be here.
also the ease with which tyler walks away like "we'll time to try again" but josh just kinda ligers like "wait what do you mean it's a miss?" 😭

0:22 “seems I get in my own way, more I think, the less I say” is hits deep for me ❤
I can't you guys.

The SAI merch was superior.
I had no idea the fans didn’t like sai. I’m glad I don’t associate much with them because that’s my favorite era.
I love scaled and Icy so much, I really don't understand all the hate it got and still gets. 💔🫠
Same here. In my Opinion they didnt had any Single Bad Album out there.
the thing is if you listened to top before trench, you d realise that trench and scaled are a bit too sound pleasing, they didnt convince me much, continuing on the same song story line of trench wasn't a good idea, trench should v just stayed trench, and scaled a new album with a whole concept, their new singles beside ovecompensate, reflates the old top i listened to and givees that vibe, (iv been listening since vessel got released)
"that's a miss" is crazy

It’s crazy, cus that’s likely a metaphor for writing a song, it can take you months and all of your heart, only for it to not be a hit.

Exactly my thought. In the end, it does also create an environment of art that is easily reproducable, but most notably, missing chatacter

We see the majority of the video Tyler and Josh putting a bunch of effort into creating the shotgun shell and box which we can appreciate seeing how much time and effort they put into it. Only for someone to shoot their bullet and quickly dismiss them after they "miss".
Banger!

I was a huge The Lumineers fan prior to Trench. Found twenty one, never liked rap or hip hop or rnb. Always been a fan of edm, emo and folk. But twenty one blends genres so effortlessly. And for folk to become a part of the blend brings it to a full circle.

Theres a lot of men here who have poured everything they have into “the one” over and over again only to always miss.

I believe this could also be about the music: "she" could be the music itself, and at 0:59 when he say: "if i found my body in chain, I hope she looks for me" its a way of saying the music saved him
"She" Is Jenna, and that part is partly a metaphor.
Best take
Wow the ending. They pour their hearts out only for it to miss. That’s the music industry, you guys. So if love an artist, show them.
First thing I thought of too! Brutal
wow the “it’s a miss” really feels like when you pour your heart and soul into a crush or lover just for them to throw it out and let your love and patience be unappreciated

"The more I think, the less I say" so relatable. Amazing song as always, can't wait for the album!!!
Absolutely! This is song about Jenna when they were first dating. It’s a very sweet love song.
