One of their most underrated songs IMO. I remember hearing this song live when they toured with Iron Maiden in 2017 and I had never heard of them.
In 2022, Square Hammer and Pinnacle randomly popped in my head. Started listening through the whole Ghost catalog and have been a fan ever since.
You will FEEL the base on that one
Music video next? I love the song, but this is one that really benefits with the music video.
Life Eternal next if you want to feel some serious emotions. That song just destroys me for some reason. The music video plays plays a part in that as well.
You should listen to Mary on a Cross and Mummy Dust back-to-back. Could not be any more different from each other 😂

I'm fairly certain this lyric video got like maybe two lines wrong, which are easy to miss. But (if I'm not mistaken), when it says "I'm loving it" he actually says "Armageddon" and before when it says "Like this, yeah" he says "Cataclysm"
So, the background lyrics are "Cataclysm" and "Armageddon" not.. "Like this, yeah" and "I'm loving it" lol

This one is from the "Prequelle" album.. Theme of the album is the black plague.. the pandemic that killed around 25 million people in Europe. The disease was spread by both animals (mostly rats) and from person to person. When people thought they were most certainly going to die by the plague, they partied and danced like there literally were no tomorrow, just like you mentioned. That is described as a dance macabre..
Even if you don't show the official video in your reaction, I do hope you have had the chance to view it.. Looking at the lore and history of ghost, the Dance Macabre video shows the first meeting between sister imperator and Papa Nihil, Ghosts first ever vocalist.. Somehow this meeting is arranged, or expected.. and that is why the dude at the door says "we've been expecting you" when he discovers Papa Nihil to the right, and they are admitted to the party. And, this is why the video ends with "The beginning".. At the party he gets his first facepaint, and he gets the legendary white eye of the Papa bloodline, as sister Imperator hits him.
You now have reacted to Year Zero, Cirice, Ritual, He Is and Square Hammer..
If you'd like to continue on their latest album, "Impera", you should at least listen to "Call me little sunshine" (Grammy nominee), "Hunter's Moon", "Kaiserion" or "Griftwood".. Harder stuff? Check out "Mummy Dust" from the "Meliora" album or "Faith" from the "Prequelle" album.. Wanna do more poppy stuff? Do "Spillways" from the "Impera" album. More slow ones? Check out the beautiful "Life Eternal" from the "Prequelle" album, or "Darkness at the heart of my love" from the "Impera" album.
Finally.. try "Twenties" from the "Impera" album for some serious metal reggeaton. 🙂

I didn’t care for it at all at first, way too happy and poppy to my taste. But yeah…it sneaks up on you
Sadly that video had the wrong lyrics "I feel the closer we get to the last bow" - it isn't vow, but bow. The "last bow" being a term for life ending as Dance Macabre is what really happened in 17th century. People didn't know if they'd be alive the next day (because of the Black Death) so they had parties.
Then after that it went totally wrong with the backing singer lyrics (in brackets). They should be Cataclysm and then Armageddon.
Worth listening to Mummy Dust or maybe Ghuleh/Zombie Queen
There are other errors as well, missing "cataclysm" and "armageddon".

Finally a person whom i feel a little connected. Not overreacting, not "underreactimg", a sincere opinion which in majority of times I'm agree. Love Ghost.
Btw, i see you like a lot the bass. Well, i recommend you "Buerak" is a russiand duo of Post Punk. Im really sure that you will love them.
I think "Call me little sunshine" is up there with "Square hammer" for getting stuck in your head. You should check it out.

Danse Macabre, was also a poem by Edgar Allen Poe. The movie "Castle of Terror" (or sometimes called" Castle of Blood") was loosely based on that poem. If you watch the video of this song, you'll soon see, it's about a Vampire orgy.... "If you have Ghost, you have everything.".....

Thanks for your video. I really expected your reaction. Dance Macabre is perhaps the most pop Ghost song. I would recommend that you also watch their video clips. Then perhaps you will better understand the derisive tone of this group. Any of their songs are great and I would like to see your reaction to them. But if you choose, then, perhaps, Rats)

If you get a chance, go back and watch the music video. I think it's one of the best music videos ever. I think several of Ghost's videos are some of the best ever.

Yeah, this album really had an 80s arena rock influence and feel to it. I shouldn't like it and it shouldn't work, but I do and it does.

FWIW, my connection with the titular term is Stephen King’s “Danse Macabre”. But I’m sure the term/phrase has tons more applications.

You should REALLY listen to the Carpenter Brut remix of this song Lauren, if you haven't yet. It's incredible. I love the song as is but his remix (which is endorsed by Ghost and posted on their youtube channel) is the pinnacle of 80s disco. Genius.
