    Wow - this is great. it also makes me realize how little I knew about colors and how they go together. I never even knew what tint/tone/shade were!

      Yeah, some of it is just just fun facts. Some of it is good to know in terms of processing! Now you can sound super smart at your next astronomy meet 😉

    Ryan, this is one of the most helpful astrophotography videos I’ve seen. Thank you very much. And thanks to Greg for asking you to explain color theory.

      Thank you wasn’t sure how this one would land! Greg is a smart guy I think he actually knows the theory but thought it would be helpful and it looks like he was right.

    Thanks so much for all your hard work putting that terrific video together, Ryan! Greatly appreciated. (I already have the color wheel I ordered last week from Amazon! Very neat.) From the comments it looks like other folks were as much in the 'shade' about color as I was! 😃 Thank you again!

      Great idea for a topic I wasn’t sure how it would be received but people seem to really enjoy it! Glad it helped and thanks for the suggestion 👌🏼

      Glad you found it helpful I think that was one of the main ideas was to be thoughtful and intentional when heading into the image maybe try to picture the end result.

      Side question how did you submit to NASAs APOD? I was looking at some of the images, and definitely think a lot of the folks that watch the channel, including myself could definitely compare with some of them I’d like to let people know how to enter.

      And I clicked on your excellent video, triggered by the colours. I have studied colour theory decades ago as part of my (master) Painter's education and was curious. And lo and behold; there it was. Serendipity! 😁👍

      @@darkrangersinc Honestly I just submitted it, like I've done a few before. To my mind I got lucky this time as I might have caught them at the right time. I imagine it's a side-job for the two guys "running" it and they must work through a lot of submissions... I was relatively promptly informed it would be the next day APOD. I'm still in shock and deeply honored. So; just submit I guess 😁

      @@CarpeNoctem42 well it’s a great image so worthy of the award in testing the SCA260 for an upcoming video with the same composition @1300mm in SHO. Guessing that was HOO?

    Nice video Ryan. I'm a big advocate of not nuking green in NB images. CS!

      Appreciate it, you do a great job with your SHO imaging I think leaving the green allows for a lot more complex color development!

    If I want to remove purple/pink, I create a magenta mask and reduce it's impact. But then my blues and reds get impacted so I have to boost them. Then the magenta comes back. So instead, I increase greens first but my reds turn orange. I create a problem by solving another. What I am I missing? Thanks.

    • @darkrangersinc
      @darkrangersinc  11 місяців тому

      Using the curves in camera, raw filter, you can pull up on the green, and it will reduce the magenta. Do you have to do it very very slightly though that’s the key. If you go too far, then everything looks too green. You can also use the saturation slider and reduce magenta. That way you shouldn’t really need to use a mask unless you’re only in Pixinsight
